4 years ago, I looked all over DC for a reasonably priced gym that enabled me to train for powerlifting meets. Specifically, platforms, enough weights, and an atmosphere that would not look down upon heavy lifts like many of the fancy gyms in DC. When I found Golds, I was immediately welcomed by the GM Mo. The rest of the staff has been nothing but wonderful and the gym is always clean and organized compared to other gyms Ive visited around the country. The fact that there is parking above it is reason enough to choose Golds Van Ness! In the District, for the price, convenience, and friendliness of the staff, you really cant do better than this place.

Good gym. Has all the essentials and nice staff. Nothing fancy.
Btw the water fountains are horrible and barley work, bring your own water bottle.

Machines are left broken for weeks- the water fountains barely supply enough pressure to drink from, and there's nowhere to fill a water bottle. There aren't enough handles for every machine that requires handles. The sauna is great though, and the bathrooms and gym are clean. Friendly staff.

Have you ever had a customer service experience that's so good it restores your faith in humanity? I have, thanks to Mo (manager at this location). The gym itself is very well run and I love Gold's general philosophy (strength training prioritized). When I had to quit due to location change I initially had an issue with cancelling/billing. Mo CALLED me in response to my e-mail and we spoke to each other like gentleman (don't be an a-hole when you speak to managers - this is the least fun part of their job). He listened to my issue, acknowledged my frustration and acted on my behalf to settle the dispute. I was partially at fault in the matter and certainly he and Gold's could have hid behind policy and I wouldn't have really had much recourse. Instead they made things right so I could walk away feeling good about what was a great overall experience with Gold's. As a customer, I want transparency and authentic dealings - they gave me that here and I'm grateful - thanks Mo!

This is my second go around with Gold's Gym, and I think it's safe to say that I will never be a memeber ever again. The first time I signed up for a membership with them, I lived in SC and had the worst experience with them. Fast forward a year later, I live in DC and low and behold, Gold's Gym is the closest gym to my house, so me being optimistic and hoping that a different location will result in a better experience decided to give them another shot. Worst Decision Ever! When I signed up I was told that it was non-contractual and that I could cancel my membership at anytime (I made sure to ask this several times). A few weeks into being a member, I decide that I want to cancel because the location near my house does not have the machines I need to have a decent workout. Because I'm still within my 30 day period, they tell me that I can still cancel but I have to meet with one of their trainers, attend the gym at least 8 times and then they will cancel my membership. So I do everything they say, put in my cancellation request and even call to confirm that my membership has been canceled to which one of their associates confirm that I'm all set and won't be billed on the 1st. So the first rolls around and they bill me for the month of August, I call to ask why and now the assistant manger tells me that I have to see their trainer twice (which no one told me) and that I only attended the gym 3x instead of the required 8(which is a completely lie). He also said that corporate declined my request to cancel my membership and that they will bill me for the next three months because that is their policy. Now keep in mind that this is supposed to be a NON CONTRACTUAL MEMBERSHIP yet they make you jump through hoops just to get out of your membership. Gold's Gym is the most dishonest institution I have ever worked with, if you don't want to be scammed and lied to, I suggest you consider another gym.

If there was another option I'd be there. The gym equipment is not kept up at all. Things break all the time and it takes forever to get them fixed. Lots of the dumbbells are messed up. The cable cross machine is missing parts and has sharp edges that are a hazard. And I've never seen a staff person downstairs cleaning up or racking weights. Not once in seven months. The downstairs water fountain was broken for months leaving the place with only one functioning water fountain. On the positive side, they have heavy dumbbells that go above 100lbs. Many gyms do not and that's a big positive for me...but how poorly this gym is kept up I'm honestly surprised it's a gold's.

Rude staff. The manager or the acting manager is unprofessional. I requested to speak to him over the phone, one of his employees told me he is showing the gym to a new member. I was put on hold for almost 30 minutes, I drove to the gym (while I was on hold) to find that the manager is getting his coffee from Starbucks and there was no new member on tour. I confronted the worker and the manager, but as usual Gold's gym staffers are ready to provide an excuse.

Great till you need to cancel. Was a member there for a year paid extra so I could be a month to month member with no contract. Canceled Oct 18th. But they kept billing my CC. Put in a block. They changed their merchant ID 3x now to get around my block. It is now Dec and if I check how many times their transactions that was denied they have tried charging me once a day. Even though I canceled 2 months ago. My advice is pay then with a prepaid card when you cancel.

Update: Do not bother with this gym shady as it comes. After filling my dispute with my CC which tried to contact gold's they did not respond instead sent a collection agency to call me.

Update 2: Month after collection agency called they have the audacity to send me a notification that my account will be sent to collection. Think you already did that just saying.

I can't believe this place is rated as highly as it is on Google. This gym is typically pretty dirty. The facility is old, and doesn't seem like it has had a good deep cleaning in a long time. I typically use the weight lifting area. There are two squat racks that almost always have a line in the evenings. Weights are typically scattered all over. Sometimes people will come in and play their own music from their own bluetooth speaker. No Golds Staff ever come down to the area, so don't expect them to say anything. The bathrooms have been a bit cleaner lately, but they aren't that clean. The lockers are kind of beat up. The place really needs at least one more squat rack, and it would be great if the staff people would look up from their cell phones once in a while. I wouldn't recommend this location. If there were another gym in the area I would change in a heart beat.

I've been a member since 2012 and have had an excellent experience. This gym always is clean, with newer machines in decent shape, and friendly management to help. The price is fair for what is included. I'm not one who uses a gym for spa amenities, but to put in more of a weight training and cardio workout.
Metro just down the street is a plus also.

Been a member here for a year. Good gym, good amenities, I didn't have to haggle in order to get a straightforward deal. Also I left my keys one day and it was close to closing, Lois was badass enough to stay after hours and help me look for them (fortunately we found them). Great customer service and Lois deserves a promotion imo.

This is a really adequate neighborhood gym. All the essentials. Some luxuries, but not many. Cardio theater is fun! Regular spin, yoga, and aerobics classes. Nice locker rooms, actually. Great bang for the buck!

Place is nothing special. Living in Woodley Park it's a good gym to go to after work or before. Although, the same people are always in there. I'm running my first 10k next year in San Francisco so I thought this would be a great place to start working out. Also, getting ready for upcoming nuptials. I wish they had better music.

Great facility. Awesome room that's dark with a movie and loud sound so you can really jam out and watch something captivating/stimulating. Friendly staff and most importantly(!!) Not a scam like LA fitness

The gym is a bit tiny and it does get pretty packed. Everyone is pretty respectful though and it's pretty chill. I still consider myself fairly new at weightlifting but I don't find myself having the time to wait around to deadlift.

So I go on the weekends when it's perfect. This is also my first gym and it's been good so far.
