Clean, basic, and slowly edging upward. I've been going to this location for over 15 years. It's evolved considerably with newer equipment and upgrades to most of the surrounding gym (bathrooms, main floors and paint). Generally it's not overly busy except at the normal prime times. Unfortunately this location has two minor challenges. It's on the smaller side, and there's no windows beyond the main entrance, so it can be a bit crypt like. That said, it's a solid gym overall for normal workouts.

This place is in serious need of refurbishment. Non working equipment, peeling paint everywhere, rusty showers, mold on the ceiling. Two toilets were not working in the men's room, one was covered with a bath towel today! Sauna's walls are bulging out. In the showers no shampoo or body wash, just thin foaming soap. Two tiny TVs in the men's room, one is broken. Overall a feeling of old, musty, rundown place. I was trying it out and no way I would ever join. The biggest thing going for this place is it's empty, even in the morning. I think people are staying away because of its condition.

The gym has everything you need to get in shape. Plenty of exercise machines, lots of free weights and free weight machines. So far some really great group exercise classes.
Friendly staff and good variety of classes. I can understand complaints about parking but I live close and am able to walk.
I wouldn't minimize another person's experience but my experience with this gym is always good. The equipment is up to date, cleaning staff are frequently at work and the locker rooms are clean. Really good seated leg curl, extension and seated calf that fit me ( I'm 6 foot 1) the gym is never crazy busy and parking is free in early morning g and after 5 pm. management is consistently friendly.

The gym overall is pretty terrible. It has nominal equipment, the majority of it is in awful shape. the ERG machines are broken, the treadmills stick, there are limited free weights. There's zero functional space. It's dark and not all too clean. Often there's nobody at the front desk. Nobody has a clue how to work their payment system up front. I've been trying to cancel my membership for two months. The parking situation is awful. They only validate for 4 hours out of the day and there's hardly street parking outside. There's too many other gyms in the area for golds gym to consistently suck this badly.
Management of the gym is horrible. Non-responsive to complaints or issues brought to their attention. I go most mornings at 5 am and shower there before heading off to work. Full length lockers are scarce because Golds management does not enforce not keeping locks on overnight. Two lockers have been damaged and management is not concerned about repairing them after countless emails to them. Also, the gym is not consistent with opening on time. Part of this is because employees don't know their schedules until the last minute. Just today I said to the desk clerk, will I see you at 5am tomorrow and the response was, "I'm not sure if I have to open yet". Crazy less then 24 hours and this person does not know if they have to come to work. To Gold's corporate office, fire the management here. You're losing money from locker rentals.
Listen to the others and don't bother with this gym, I went in at 5:15am as a clearly serious potential new member and was turned down because they said you can't Sign up until 10am (i work 7am-6pm) they wouldn't even let me try the gym out . I offered to sign up for a two year contract even and they still said I had to come back between 10am-5pm... Worst customer service ever they turned down money, thankfully there are many gyms in Washington and I find a more local option that I am more than happy with. how is any professional supposed to come sign up between 10 and five on a work day... It's not like I had high expectations going in to this, all I wanted was heavy dumbbells, and a squat rack would have been 4 stars, a working sauna would have made it 5 stars
Horrible management. Equipment in constant disrepair. I notified them of a failing piece of equipment (weight bench). They didn't do anything about it until it broke on someone. Hamstring machine (the only one in the entire gym) has been broken for over three months. Other equipment are missing the pins for the weight stacks. Machine presses that use adjustable seats are missing the safety pins (a serious safety concern). The speedbag is always going flat but their inflator pump is broken. (They sell needles at Target a block away for a few bucks...). The heavy bag is hung about 9ft in the air so forget about using that unless you're 6'+. The weights are constantly disorganized and left on equipment. Equipment always has sweat on it. I saw a dude working out in sandals. There's a lady that literally runs/skips/high knees around the gym during peak hours. Just all around a poorly managed gym.I cancelled my membership. Highly suggest looking elsewhere.
Last time I was here, the group exercise room in the back was still a swamp. It was incredibly humid and it has been for years. I'm unsure why this continues to be a problem. Gold's needs to make an investment in this location. I will not be back until this problem is fixed, especially with the hot DC summer.

A little hard to see where to enter but great location considering there's no other gym in the area.
Standard golds gym. You get what you pay for.
