24 hour fitness in other parts of the country seem consistently better than SF clubs. The only two calf exercise machines have been broken for over a month with out of order signs on them. The only reason I haven't cancelled is because I use other clubs when I travel.

Only one squat rack, two benches. Can't do a standing shoulder press at the squat rack and I'm not even tall. This is not a great gym for strength training. Should have just paid extra and joined Equinox.

Gym is fine in terms of equipment. But - no towels?! I had to buy a towel to shower ($5), after already paying a $20 drop in, AND having to buy a $9 padlock for the lockers.

I have to agree with previous posters regarding how incredibly rude some of the staff are at this location. I politely asked, more out of respect, if it was OK for me to sit at one of their unoccupied couches. This was during a Sunday afternoon, I was the only person willing to use the couches to sit in for a while only. The Asian attendant at the time must've thought I was asking him if I could sit on them for hours at a time. I was surprised as I have never had issues using any of the 24 Hour facilities throughout the country. I felt humiliated when told I could only sit for a little while. I was like, really? I plan on following up with corporate offices about this. Unbelievable!

Isn't open 24/7. Closes early on the weekend. Weird set up for lifting. Cardio area is claustrophobic. 1 power rack/squat rack. 1 bench press? Need more free weights but there is no room for it.

Great 7 day membership at an even better price for those travelling. Facilities are decent albeit only the one squat rack. Good amount of equipment and even when jammed packed was able to get a good session in. The fact that it isn't truly open 24 hours is a shame.

I'm one of the members that had to migrate to this gym after the one on 303 2nd street plaza closed down and let me say this one is a let down.

It's not only that the gym is small but if you add the fact that it's located in the financial district the place gets ridiculously packed on peek hours. The equipment is in good condition although badly distributed: There is a sea of elliptical machines that get no use on weekends while there's only ONE squat rack (yes, ONE) and two or three people waiting to use it, there' two abductor machines and NONE decline bench press, etc.
Never had any issues with any members, all are friendly and just keep to their own (never seen any judging in this or the previous location as portrayed in the planet fitness commercials). My only complaint is the occasional homeless people that somehow make their way to the showers and do their laundry there.
And speaking of, showers are limited but clean as is the general men's locker room area.
Staff are nice people trying to do their best considering the amount of traffic this location brings in.
I miss the 303 Second street plaza location so much, it was better equipped and closer to my home.

It ish a contradiction of sensibility for the place to be named a 24 hour, when there ish a Closing time and and Opening time.
Which makes it impossible to access, if your use of the facilities ish in the morning before 7am.
Which leaves you limited choice alternatives.
Other than the inconsistency of the contradiction in brand and actual hours it ish open.
This 24hr facility is a clean nice operation.

How ever the competency of the staff ish still open for debates - as on my last few visits, the few actual staffers present were lost in their personal frames of mind.
Which ish understandable, because they are often put in situations where there are intrusive and unpleasantness from members that are homeless and the random non members who are homeless.
Because the remaining "crazies" who live on the streets of San Francisco gravitate to the financial district. Where the pickings for aggressive street begging ish good, and there are ample resources of waste cardboard to sleep on, with plentiful nooks to sleep in - that ish until building security or the police show up.

Regarding the locker room area, the facilities are also modest. There ish a main locker room on the second floor adjacent to the "personal training" area and a secondary restroom on the third floor where the main workout area equipment ish located.
Both (mens) have only one working toilet for the conveinience of members, with two urinals in the main locker room, and a single urinal on the second floor restroom.
The showers are few, but in good working order. The colours are pleasing.
The lockers themselves are the newer larger ones identical to the ones in the Market Street (Castro) and Van Ness Ave 24 hr fitness facilities . But again due to space limitations there are not a lot of lockers.
There ish one redeeming perk, while the hand "warm air" dryers are noticeably weak and barely warm. There are two additional dryers located on the wall for the drying of heads that have wet hair. These two dryers are noticeably stronger. But are easily overlooked by those whom are height challenged. Because the on switch ish out of reach for them. A simple additional switching relay would remedy this little inconvenience and avoid potential litigation by our demunitive peers, the ones who still have hair on their heads.

It ish a fine facility for that quick workout, when it ishn't crowded. As there ish just enough equipment to fill almost every last centimeter of viable working space.
So it ish likely, that during "normal" day time hours one must modify their intended regime to accommodate the crowding of others who want to share the equipment.

Good luck folks.

It ish highly unlikely that a remodel will be coming in its future, as the layout of the structural engineering of the building would be excessively prohibitive and expensive.
Had there been hindsight foretelling the passing of nongender specific toilets, it would of been exceedingly more efficient to design in a central "non-gender toilet area to accommodate more toilets to poop in. With the locker and shower facilities branching off seperately. But then depending on the trust worthiness of social mores of some members, this may not be viable in this day. As a security presence would be needed to deter violators of other persons.

The staff is really not knowledgeable about membership and rates. I was trying to add a new family member to my account. I was told I could pay 20$ for a trial class, and apply that towards the membership fees. THAT WAS A TRAP!!!!

And then when I paid the 20$, I still had to pay the full amount for the membership cost. Not only did they refuse to give my family member a free 3 day trial, they scammed me into paying 20$ for the first day along with the full membership costs for the rest of the months.

Very decent 24 hour fitness. This was my old gym before I switched to 2nd street. It is primarily located between 2 floors and is a bit on the smaller side, but gets the job done. It can get quite cramped due to the size during the week, especially before the summer hits.

They have battle ropes, a group workout area, a few bench presses, and a decent number of smith machines.

Dont usually leave a bad review but the staff here are incredibly unfriendly. I stayed at the Galleria hotel next door for a work conference and they gave us passes. The girl made me feel like I was stealing money out of her pocket because I wasnt a member. Will avoid staying at this hotel just so I can use a different gym.

Crowded and not so clean men's locker-room; work-out area has no opened windows, no air circulations, very stuff and suffocated even in the winter time! They need to improve all of these issue. BTW, the front desk people are not friendly at all. This location management needs to do something about it because the front desk guys represent your 24 hour fitness corp. People come to your gym the first thing to see are your front desk guys.

Great gym. Karen at the front desk was so great. Very friendly and welcoming. The gym was not crowded at all. Plenty of equipment. All newer equipment as well. Plenty of people to help you if you had any questions. Nice, clean and a great location. Highly recommended.

Terrible customer service.

I went in to ask for a 3-day pass and/or a tour to see the place before getting the $399 Costco 2-year membership.

Unfortunately they only give out 3-day passes to SF residents, and they only allow you to prove residency with an ID (they don't accept any other proof of residency like bills or lease agreements). I didn't have mine on hand so they said it would cost $20 for the day OR I could get a free tour.

To get the free tour, they had me enter my information into their system, and then a man came out (who was supposed to give me a tour) who said he could only provide a tour if I had the 3-day pass. Since I don't have my ID, he could only give me a tour if I paid $20.

I don't understand why it was so difficult to see the facility when I was very seriously considering getting a $399 membership (?)

Also, 2 out of the 3 staff members were difficult to work with (they weren't freely giving out information, and I had to ask a ton of questions to get the information above), and just seemed unhappy to be there.

Overall, they have what it takes to get the job done and do have relatively friendly personal training staff. The gym in general is pretty dirty and is only added to by the permissable barefoot users, which completely confuses me for sanitary reasons. Large sections of the gym/equipment are blocked off for the customers who pay the additional $60/hr for group and personal training, including at peak times. Often times washroom equipment isn't refilled or is broken for an extended period of time (a week or more), this has been a consistent issue for the near 2 years of my attendance.

Weights good, Treadmills good, Personal trainers friendly, Cost ugh!!!! A manager said it was reasonable when I commented on it! Didn't have a "Can Do Attitude" oh 24 get over yourself....

October 20, 2017 11:25

Not bottom-of-the-barrel bad, but close enough. There are many problems with this gym, starting with the smell, the temperature, lack of good machines, crowded-ness, lack of good service, and overall uncleanliness.
The gym does not allow you to open the windows, so it is always at a steamy atmospheric temperature where you can get maximum body odor smells when you breathe. There is usually mold in the locker rooms, don't worry though: They paint over the mold.
You can always find at least one machine not working. You can also find the staff at the front desk not working as well. They love to ignore you when you come in so they can make small talk.

they're ok for a quick workout if you don't want to miss your day in the gym but there's nothing much to work with. no space, not enough equipment. can't make this place your regular workout gym.
