I was looking for a gym with a friendly atmosphere and personalized training routine to help me avoid the dreaded effects of aging. The Motivator has been perfect for me. I've improved physically and enjoyed many laughs. Big Al and Oscar oversee everything and work very hard to see that each client's needs are met and that the environment is comfortable. My trainer, Lance, is the best!! And yes, the gym is very clean.

For 2 weeks I had discomfort in my left arm, and my left hand would go numb . I went in to urgent care and was given a brace, and told it was carpal tunnel. Well that is where I messed up, being that my husband has been going to Al for sometime now for his back pain. The brace started causing pain in my left shoulder and on the left side of my neck. I figured it was a pinched nerve, not carpal tunnel. My husband recommended that I should go see Al, and I regret not going to see Al first. For 2 weeks my arm would really bother me at night when trying to go to sleep, and it would go numb at work (desk job). Since my visit with Al on Saturday I am able to go to sleep at night and have had no discomfort throughout the day. Thank you Al!

I came in having a limited range of motion in my left knee. Al was able to stretch and adjust my tendons and muscles. I now can ride a bike, my range of motion is greater than my 6 months of physical therapy.
The gym is very clean and kept up by the trainers.I would highly recommend anyone that is having knee or back issues to come and see Al. Yes, even before surgery.

Al is an amazing trainer. I was having problems with my shoulder where I couldn't lift anything above my head and my boyfriend was having back problems, where doctors told him that he needed back surgery. We were lucky enough to come across Al. He has been working with us for the pass 3 months, and now my boyfriend has never felt better with his back and my shoulder has never felt better . I highly recommend Al!

By far.....the BEST training gym in Tucson! All staff is knowledgeable, dedicated, friendly, excellent coaches...all with a great sense of humor. Maggie, my trainer, is AWESOME! And...the gym is uber clean, tidy and well laid out. Finally, it is a bonus to workout with Oscar.

Several months ago I was put on a medication that made me gain 40lbs in just 3 months. I was so depressed and didn't know where to turn for help. I knew I wasn't motivated to lose the weight and more importantly just be heathy. So to Google I went, searching for help. I came across The Motivator website and so glad I did. Al has been amazing at helping me achieve my goals. To check out my progress go to The Motivator website, on the menu drop down bar click "weight loss" , scroll down to see what I did in just 2 months training with Al. Couldn't be happier!

I have worked out with Al for over four years. My work life is very stressful and without the motivation of Al and Oscar I would probably be in a box right now. Best trainers in Tucson work at the Motivator!

I love working here ! The staff is welcoming and Oscar (the dog) is so much fun to have around. The gym is ALWAYS cleanly and organized. My clients are comfortable training here and the location is convenient.. as a personal trainer I couldn't be happier to train here.

The Motivator Personal Fitness & Rehab is the BEST!!! Better then any gym I've ever gone to. Equipment is in great condition and the place is always spotless. I give it 5++ stars. My brother had a stroke on 11/29/16, at the age of 55. He was in the hospital for a month, twice in this past year and a half. His right side was affected so he's not able to move too well. He is in a wheel chair and also uses a walker. I wanted to find a personal trainer that would motivate him to work out, get him stronger, eventually help him walk without any aid and be kind and caring at the same time. My husband met with Al V, the owner of The Motivator. He was really impressed with his experience and the information he provided. Then, my brother Wesley and I met with Al and Lance (a personal trainer) for about an hour. They were both very informative, asked us questions and I too was just as impressed as my husband was. I could see they both were good hearted people. People who truly do care about others and their well being. Lance became Wesley's trainer and after just 4 days of work outs, I could see the difference, in Wesley. Lance is a kind, compassionate person and an excellent trainer. I trust him, totally, with my brother. If he's made such a difference, in Wesley's life, in this short period of time, I can only imagine what a few months will bring. Lance is now my personal trainer as well. Which I'm very happy & excited about. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, The Motivator, to anyone who is seriously thinking of starting a workout routine. Also, for anyone who is going thru recovery/rehab and wants to better their lives, thru fitness and good nutrition. If you are serious about living a healthy lifestyle, call them up today! You'll be glad you did. We are...... Thank you Al, Lance & Oscar (the other owner/also a sweet canine).

Update July 2018: I've been working with Al for over a year now and am happy to share my results! I've lost 41.4 pounds so far, 6 inches off my hips and 4.5 inches off my waist. I work with Al three times a week and follow his eating plan. It's working!! It takes a great deal of focus and discipline, but it helps having a trainer who supports my goals, encourages me and celebrates my victories with me!

***

Absolutely love Al and his methods! I've never seen results this quick from anything I've tried in the past 20 years. He takes the time to discuss nutrition with you and any physical limitations/issues you may have then builds a routine around your and your goals. He's very thoughtful about how he goes about helping his clients and also cares as much for their progress as they do. He has extensive experience and walks the walk. He won't tell you to do something he hasn't already tested and perfected on his own. Absolutely recommend him to anyone serious about their health!

After being in significant chronic pain for over a year, multiple doctor visits, procedures, pills etc... I spent one rehab session with Al and my pain level went from a 7 to a 2. I cried with joy... to have my pain lessened after a year of 7-10 level pain daily seemed like a miracle. We have more work to do to get me back to "normal" but, if this is how I feel after 1 session... I can't wait to see what is next! Thank you Al for changing my life... grateful beyond words! Oh, and after my session I got up from the sofa and my husband said I looked like a the younger woman he married, instead of a 70 year old woman... not sure if there was a compliment in there or not but I will take it. ;)

Individual program designed around you. After eight major back surgeries and replace two knees I needed a special program to ease the constant pain. This is not a you go it alone on machines. Al creates a work out program that is methodical at a pace best suited to the individual. In addition to all this the facility is extremely clean and sanitized.

I have had 13 knee surgeries and countless physical therapy sessions. Both knees are replaced and 1 knee has already has a revision done. And I recently found out that I have several things going in in my back as well and haven't been able to even walk upright or without limping everywhere I went. The Dr's and therapists did the best they could with a bad situation that started with bad genetics in my knees and even with their help I have been in constant level 9-10 pain for as long as I can remember. I went to my 4th orthopedic Dr yesterday just praying something could be done to allow me to walk without limping and at least ease some of the pain. I was basically told that there wasn't anything that could be done besides me trying to stretch the tendons myself and it wouldn't get much better. It was devastated and extremely discouraged.

But I remembered talking to Al at The Motivator a few weeks back and decided to contact him as a last resort. He had me come in today and I am in awe. He stretched me and did ART (Active Release Technique) on my legs and back. When I first got off the table, I was in shock. I was able to straighten my right knee ALL THE WAY for the first time in 10+ years. I went in at a level 9 pain level and left at a level 4!!!!! I will definitely be going back to finish the ART. And I am so excited, relieved and astounded at what a huge amazing difference just the 1 session has made already!!!!! Thank you Al for taking the time to help.

I've been working out at The Motivator for about three months now. The place is spotless, well-maintained, and well-equipped. After my initial meeting with the owner, Al, he connected me with my trainer, Maggie. My goal was simple - get in better shape. Maggie has something different at each workout, she challenges and motivates me. She's well-educated in fitness and clearly knows what she's doing. The Motivator is not like other gyms. It's by appointment with your trainer only - so there's always just a small group of people - trainers and trainees - there working out in a friendly environment. If you're looking to avoid the typical gym vibe and looking to make a commitment to your own well-being (especially if you're a bit older, a bit out of shape or have some residual limitations from injuries, etc.) you truly can't find a better place to get in shape. I highly recommend The Motivator, Al, (with canine owner Oscar who's always around with a wagging tail), and my trainer Maggie. My only regret is I didn't find them sooner.
