I would recommend this gym to anyone of any athletic background! After tearing my ACL and having surgery in 2016 and being released to full activity in May 2017, I was looking for a new and more challenging workout. After a couple of months of considering CrossFit and feeling intimidated to try it, I landed at Armor in fall 2018. It was such a comfort to know that Zach the owner is a physical therapist. I could tell from the first intro session that he knew what he was talking about, understood movement, and was able to explain it to a newbie like myself. What's more, every coach at the gym had the same level of understanding and great instruction. I felt right at home among more experienced CrossFitters and my fiance, who has been doing CrossFit for six years, loved the classes he attended with me at Armor. Whether you are experienced in CrossFit or have been considering trying it, I would definitely give Armor a try.

I first heard about crossfit after a few friends started at Trident now "Armor". A short time after, I was invited to try it out and thought, "what was that?!" I've never felt so drained after a 15 min workout before. From there, I wanted more and the rest is history. It's been a year now and I am still hooked and enjoying each class.

The coaches are great. They take the time to break down each workout with clear instructions and movement. During a challenging workout they offer motivation to get you through. I especially like the feedback and correction they suggest for improvement. There is also a good sense of community and always a positive vibe. No "BIG" egos just individuals wanting to better themselves.

The different hours at Armor is a plus, as it works with my busy schedule. Also clean facilities to change and shower if needed. The equipment is well maintained and safe to use.

I highly recommend Armor if you are looking for a place to workout, ask for Zach.

Great coaches with strong knowledge of fitness and training. Good facility and equipment for all-level trainees. Poor warmth and interpersonal relationship with clients. I've finished my introductory lesson with them, and I didn't received any praises, complement, or simply a "high-five."

What I like:
The coaches are very meticulous and patient in teaching me how to do the proper form. I've gained a lot of good knowledge regarding to the science of mobility, balance, strength, and flexibility. Learning the complexity of doing the squat, deadlift, pull-up, cleans, and other calisthenic workouts have awakened new thoughts about my fitness level. I've been an enthusiastic fitness lover for over ten years, and I didn't know I was doing it wrong from the beginning. Heck, I'm serious athlete who is striving to be greater someday. I wish I can continue to learn more about their wisdom and knowledge, but...

What I didn't like:
Despite of their respected knowledge and experience, there is lack of enthusiasm and energy into the subject. I've expected a lot of passion of these staff members since it is part of their career. As I've mentioned earlier during my introductory lesson, there are lack of praises. The coach only gave me critique and criticism. And, that's it. Like a Microsoft Word who only just correct spelling and grammar. My last private lesson was ended shortly to be 50 minutes long instead of an hour long (I've invested the private lesson to be 60 minutes long), and the coach should at least uses the last 10 minutes to have an open conversation or continue to work with me until my appointment is over. Instead, the coach ended quickly and trying to sell me other services that are available to me. Nevertheless, in my second appointment, my coach was 5 minutes late. Punctuality is also a problem.

Conclusion
I really encourage the club to take their clients' expectations very seriously. I'm not just only investing for great results and amazing athletic performances. I want to invest something that can give me that journey and sadly, I don't see a lot of future with them based on my first impression. Good thing I try it out first, before signing any contract.

Pros:
-Knowledgeable and experienced coaches
-Great equipment
-Various type of services to benefit the client's needs in term of fitness level

Cons:
-Punctuality
-Lack of open discussion
-No warmth or welcoming atmosphere

I really hope they are reading this feedback. I was feeling hesitant to make this review public. However, not all fitness club is perfect and I hope this feedback can make a huge difference that would benefit their small business in a long run. This is simply not a rug you should keep sweeping underneath. This is something for the club to overcome their problem to better their client's expectation and impression.

I've been working out at Armor (formerly Trident) for almost 10 months now (2 years, after edit). Prior to joining, I hadn't really done much in the way of fitness/weight lifting for 8 or 9 years. I did a lot of homework prior to trying Crossfit, and Armor (Trident) had a great reputation. The selling point for me was the Director of Training. His Doctorate in Physical Therapy made me far more comfortable trying complex movements having been away for awhile. My big fear was injury, and I have waited this long to write a review in order to get a real feel for the gym, culture, coaching, training, etc (as well as some tenure being injury free). The coaches know their stuff. The owner/director has done his homework (literally and figuratively) to build programming that is helpful without bordering harmful, and seems to genuinely enjoy seeing members get healthier. The people who work out there are friendly, it lacks all the classic gym drama, and the facility itself is great. Couldn't ask for more. Thanks, guys...

I was visiting family and needed a place to work out for the week. This box was close to where I was staying and convenient. Dave and the gym family welcomed me with open arms. Drop in price was great. I will visit Trident again if I am ever I'm Washington.

Fun self paced fitness classes . Pushing Big tires around really was a super cardio workout.

I came to Tacoma for two weeks visiting the PNW and hanging with my girlfriends family. Knowing that I needed to work out with the copious amounts of food they would feed me I looked for a Box with drop-in pricing.

To the point, look no further than Trident Athletics. Friendly service, awesome prices ($15 drop in pricing!), a strong community feel and quality programing are what will greet you at Trident! Being in the reserves it was nice to have a large number of military personnel without the pretense of being exclusively military clientele.

Having done Crossfit in various incarnations around the world for years I highly recommend this establishment and look forward to coming back during the holiday season!

I am so glad that I took the leap and gave Trident a try... it was probably the best decision that I've ever made regarding health and fitness!!! I love that the workouts are always different every day, but that there has obviously been a lot of thought put into the programming, so it's easy to track and see results (and as long as you show up and push yourself even a little, you will see results!!). At 30 yrs old, I'm on track to be in the best shape of my life, and even after two kids, I'm fitting into the size clothes that I wore in high school!! I chalk all of my success up to the awesome coaching staff and absolutely amazing, supportive community of Trident members. If you feel like you need a little momentum to reach your full potential, give Trident a try. You will be so thankful that you did!!!
