First of all, great equipment, well maintained and organized by the staff. I was thinking stay here longer before encountering the billing issue.
I need to move to New Jersey after two months, so when OFIT told me I can do month-to-month with no commitment, I agreed with paying two months fee in advance. Things went perfect at first, staff are friendly and they make the place nice and clean.
The situation turns ugly after one month, they charged my credit card for one more month without any notification: no text, phone call, or even email. It seems that there exists a custom in gym industry that they would like to charge you one month before the new service cycle. The 24 Hour Fitness did the same to me, but I was their annual member, and 24 Hour's salesperson and manager emphasized that I should be aware of prepay system. Although I dislike this system, 24 Hours makes it acceptable.
When I called OFIT and ask them why they charged my credit card without notifying me, they replied that I should contact them first to cancel the membership. If I didn't notice the transaction, they can keep charging my credit card because they keep my credit card info. I didn't sign any contract, or agree to commitment.
As I was out of state at this moment, my girlfriend made the phone call for me, and they said I have to be there in person to cancel the membership. So, I had to make the second call myself, and they agreed to give me the refund and cancel my membership without my showing up. It still hurt the great expression I had with OFIT, and I don't know if I can trust their management to keep my credit card info.
It shouldn't be my fault not notifying OFIT, as it's shouldn't be my responsibility to tell people not to take money from my own pocket.
