I cannot praise DPPT highly enough! In the past ten years this is the third physical therapy center I have been to, and if I need PT again I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. Steve (Dr. McKenzie) has deep and extensive knowledge of physical therapy, he knows the body, and he knows how to work with people.
I came to him after shoulder surgery, in a lot of pain, and anxious because months of pre-surgery therapy at another center had felt scattershot and hadn't produced results. I wanted to avoid the hectic and distracted atmosphere of my previous experiences, such as multiple patients working in the same room, constant crosstalk between assistants and patients and therapists, doing my exercises with the PT assistants and then waiting for the therapist to be free to work on me for 20 minutes, etc. The DPPT model is completely different.
In our 45-minute one-on-one sessions over several months, Steve moved from range-of-motion to strengthening, with attention to functional needs. I particularly appreciated my sense that there was a methodical program moving me forward, and yet in every session Steve was flexible in attending to any special problem areas or issues concerning me. I trusted him completely, so completely that when at one point he suggested we try dry needing on a problem area, I agreed to let him plunge needles into my muscles--a first for me, and it went fine and it did help.
I am recommending DPPT to all my doctors and friends, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to feel confident in the expertise of their therapist, and who wants the physical therapy to be focused, enjoyable, and effective.
