Until recently, I would never have considered walking into a gym like Flex. Big, heavy equipment and big muscled people were kind of intimidating to me. When my physical therapy provider, Best Life, opened an office inside Flex, I put aside my preconceived discomfort and took advantage of the town center location. The gym is old, comfortable like your favorite softball mitt. The ladies room is basic but very clean. This place is nothing like the sleek gyms where I have shelled out too much money to join. I have been quite impressed with the staff and clientele at Flex. Quite. Doing their own thing, but ready to help or encourage. Interestingly, I have seen a few elderly women working out with the trainers here and the occasional child pushing toys around. Not at all what I expected. Everyone I have encountered has been far from intimidating. Warm, friendly and helpful are more accurate descriptions. Oh, and this gym has history. A history of creating top performers. Winners in every sport, not just weight lifting. You would think such a place would have an air of intensity, expectation and intimidation. Nope, not Flex. Super chill.
