It's a great gym with wonderful trainers it's just very corporate-owned...they definitely will put some pressure on you for personal training and if you try to make any change to your plan it becomes a pressure sale which isn't that much fun.

Great facility filled with loads of equipment and classes. I love the fact that it is amazingly clean

Great for the whole family. Kids academy with lots of activities for the kids and infant care are easily the best in the area. The group instructors are professional and fun and focus on functional fitness that is impactful and avoids needless injury. Fun, safe environment with upgraded workout equipment. Outdoor pool with slides and kiddie pool is a huge part of our summer.

Overall - 4 stars

pros; well-maintained facility and good amenities. Staffs being nice (never had a bad experience). Group fitness trainers are excellent. Tasty shakes. Kids academy programs are generally very good. abundant instructors for kids play time.

cons; they can improve studio cleanliness (e,g increase frequency of cleaning those rooms, place alcohol dispensers in each room would be nice), also online kids class-schedule needs to be up-to-date.

Staff are complete jerks. The patronage of this gym is too meathead bodybuilder for me. If you like GloboGym this is your place.

Update: They banned me from Lifetime for posting a negative review of them.

recently I had a really bad experience with a massage. This was my first time at the Reston center, the massage therapist was an unprofessional lady (Alexis), who had no clue of what she was doing. I suffer the entire hour of massage and because she was an old lady, didn't want to hurt her feelings, but this was the worst experience ever, she kept putting so much pressure in both my hip flexors, plus every few minutes she stop the massage and took her time waiting I don't know what, and I was there laying on my tommy ...waiting, and waiting for her to continue. She didn't massage my legs or feet, or arms, she was always concentrated in my back . I feel bad I lost my 120 LTbucks for nothing! All I asked was for a Relaxing massage., but I still have a bad pain in my back!

Josh's group bootcamp fitness is the best! He is one of the trainers. If you want to see results, take his class!!!! It's an add on but so worth it!

Overall this is a wonderful gym with many amenities and many avenues to fitness. I joined in January, and I've made good progress in reaching my fitness goals, while enjoying the more luxury amenities like hottub, steam room, sauna, etc. The hottubs are clean, I use them weekly with great benefit to my back and no problems - not sure what other reviewers are talking about, maybe they jumped in a toilet and thought it was a hottub!
But, I want it to be even better. 2 things:
1. Why oh why oh why must there be crappy gym music pipped out to the outdoor pool area? Yes, crappy gym music, the reason why most everyone in the gym wears headsets. I could be out there listening to the breeze in the trees or the birds singing, but no - crappy gym music.
2. The kiosk for entering suggestions and complaints (such as #1 above)- Does mgmt really think anyone is going to type anything significant into that tiny tablet while standing up? If you aren't getting feedback from members except here - there's your problem. Get a chair and a real keyboard.
Yes, I'd appreciate a response - but not about guests.

The pools are filthy. Not one basic hygiene rule enforced. High traffic with kids, seniors no one takes showers. Sweaty people from pool-side saunas use pools to wash off. And anyone going in those hot tubs better have a good dermatologist as I have seen babies in diapers in there. Working with billing dept unpleasant. If you need to cancel a portion of your membership they make you come there personally. In this day on online commerce and e-signatures not sure why. I mean I have bought real estate with an e-signature. Had to change credit card once, left a message never had call back and had to chase them down. I cancelled membership and on the way out they nick you for one month payment almost like a rental apartment, and as one final thank you a $10 fee for who knows what.

Although I love the infra-red lights and high-technology filtering system of the pools, I was shocked to learn that this facility was non-compliant with Fairfax County Health Code rules in posting signage leaving both the menmen's and women's locker rooms as well as at the entrance of both pools. The Health Department requires a soap-shower upon entering the pools. I managed to get this implemented by contacting the Health Department. Unfortunately, I noticed most of the swimmers using the club did not shower, and often I could smell unwashed hair or strong body odor in spite of the infra-red lighting, used to take away odors. I also noticed some older men going straight from the sauna sweaty attempting to jump directly into the pool without first taking a shower. It's disgusting how many people use these pools as their own personal bathtub. I've never witnessed a lifeguard engaging the public to take a shower. Also, the pools are rented out to the point it is difficult finding a lap lane to yourself between 4:30 pm - 8:00 pm. Making more money at the expense of providing enough open lanes for lap swimmers unfortunately appears to be a priority. When I felt sexually harassed by one older male swimmer, I was told by the manager, he felt the behavior from that member was unintentional, and that he would not be doing anything further unless something happens again. I requested that this individual not swim either in my lane or in the two lanes on either side of me if our paths crossed. The behavior of management at this facility strongly needs some educational updating.

My husband and I joined the gym before it was built, when they were selling memberships from a trailer. We have loved going early morning and late night and getting in the best shape of our lives. Recently, they added a 6 am MWF treadmill crossfit class on one side of the cardio equipment and a 6 am MWF bootcamp on the other side. This morning I had to endure, "Love is a Battlefield" blasting from one speaker and "I got a feeling" from another speaker, tandomly. Did I mention the gym has it's own sound system internet radio? I couldn't hear MY music over the 3 genres of music. At $200. a month I should not be having this issue. I can't understand when there is 2 empty private workout rooms (and a huge basketball court downstairs) why they have to ruin everybody else's workout with such distraction and annoyance. I'm sure their groups get a great workout but I have spoken with other members and they agree what a negative impact it has for everyone trying to get a workout in between 6-7 am. George, can you stagger the classes or at least make it in the private gym rooms? Bring back the gym to what it was! All the trainers have been super nice. Especially the one who courteously told me he moved my step-up box (because he needed the whole floor for his class.) I told Ryan at the front desk (love him!) about the excessively loud music and he said complaints are rising. I don't think its fair for buy up classes to monopolize the entire gym space and cause such a toxic workout environment. Please help George, I dont want to have to change gyms. I know you can resolve this! Have a great day! Erica

I have been a member of this gym since it opened almost 10 years ago and I must say that the customer service has gone downhill. I reached out to the billing department with some questions after I placed my account on hold due to traveling out of the country, and my questions were met with short answers, when I asked for a more detailed explanation, the representative told me that I must physically go into the gym. I advised her that I was out of the area and could not physically goto the gym. She then proceeded to hang up on me. I feel like after being a member for so many years, to be treated this way is unacceptable.

I will be canceling my membership due to the extremely rude staff and unfriendly policies. I strongly suggest taking your business to a gym that will appreciate your membership.

Oh my gosh, if you want to treat yourself well, join Lifetime. I joined 2 months ago, and I go to the gym 5 times more often than I did when I belonged to a more budget conscious gym. Love the variety of work out equipment, the basketball courts, the hot tub, the sauna, the eucalyptus steam room. Feels like Elysium, and since I go more often, it seems to work out cost-wise and is a huge benefit health-wise.

That being said, the only disturbing thing I noticed is in the kids academy. I don't know who's bright idea the Nerf gun war was, but to see the tykes crouching behind play barricades and running around shooting at each other ... granted, it is Nerf, but so soon after so many school shootings ... it just looked really wrong. However, I am happy they do not allow handguns in the gym.

One year since my last post and NOTHING has changed. In fact lap lane availability has gotten worse. Seriously thinking of canceling my membership. DO NOT join if you intend to swim to stay fit and improve technique. They take up three lanes in the lap pool for swim classes for kids ranging from 8-16 during prime times of the day when working people get out of work. Lifetime fitness has turned into a money making club med rather than a fitness facility. I joined the gym mainly for using the pool and swimming laps. I read some of the comments regarding lap swimming and one person hit the nail on the head (web guru). The message was posted nine months ago followed by a seemingly appreciative Lifetime management comment. However the issues are still remaining. Nothing has been done to rectify the issues. Lap lanes are taken up by swim classes. You can hardly find open lanes. I stopped by on Friday at 7PM thinking for sure I'd be able to find a lane, only to find that two lanes were taken up by swim classes. People still dunk their sweaty bodies in the pool after they exit sauna. Rules are not enforced and signs are not posted to educate people and to prevent them from doing that. I asked a Lifeguard once and from his response, it was obvious that he had never been trained on this subject. The gym equipment is good and they have done improvements on group classes but if you want to join for swimming be prepared to share the lap pool with the swimming classes, sweaty person from the sauna and the walking grannie and chatting buddies extending their legs every now and then while holding on to the wall....

As a new member to LifeTime Reston I felt I should write a quick review about my first 2 personal experiences. I took my first yoga class, "Surrender" with Karl B. He was incredibly gentle and calming with his guidance. And... I had an awesome massage with Frank. Obviously experienced and was able to root out my core issues. I have had many massages through the years, I am probably a bit spoiled in this department. I am in the service provider industry myself and will be recommending my own clients

Seemingly a nice place and I work down the street, but when asked the "How much does it cost" question they go into a high salesman mode and I don't don't get a straight answer. They need to understand that people buy in different ways, and I was already sold depending upon the cost, but never mind. I'm sure to hear about the benefits and never get a price or straight answer. I should buy a car from these guys. Makes me wonder.

For you lap swimmers: the pool areas are pretty nice. They have an indoor lap pool and and indoor rec pool. However, a lot of the '"rec" people wonder over into the lap pool to frolic and walk around the lanes. They have a sign that says " rec pool better suited for water aerobics" but no one adheres to that suggestion. So at busy times getting lap lanes can be hard. In general no posted rules for the indoor are enforced so you see people dunking their sweaty bodies in the pools directory from the pool-side sauna. They don't swim, they just dunk and get out. I have seen toddlers in diapers in the hot tubs. I don't go in the hot tubs.

The outdoor pool is very nice. Again, there is a lap area and a rec area.It is wise to come at times that are not busy to avoid classes and the people who jump in the lap lanes to cool off, hold the wall and kick or discuss their favorite book. I guess they like the lap lanes to avoid chaos in the rec area. If you come summer Saturdays/Sundays at prime time the outdoor lap pool WILL be a zoo.It is more of a country club with lap lanes than a health club for lap swimming.

All in all good pools for lap swimming if you can go at off hours. The people in the pool area are great. Just wish they would enforce a few of their own basic posted rules.

Here's a new one: a person swimming in a burka! True. So much for pool hygiene.

Absolutely love Lifetime! I have held memberships at various other gyms over the years. While cheaper monthly, those gyms pale in comparison to the amenities and equipment offered at lifetime. They really do want their members to lead healthy lives, and have something for every member of the family. They also offer weight loss challenges, special events, parents night out, kids classes, basketball leagues, swimming leagues, etc. I could say more.

October 25, 2017 15:18

Went there today with a one day trial pass. I can see the attraction, big, clean, lots of amenities and equipment. They have both and indoor and outdoor pool with slides, spa, various classes for kids etc. It was generally a nice place. There were two things I had issue with. One was the over priced food by the poolside cafe. Not only was it overpriced, it was not even heated through. When I brought it back, they did give me a new plate but claimed that the corn dogs were not undercooked but rather, it had cooled down already. Um, excuse me, I'm pretty sure I can tell the difference between food that has cooled down and food that is hot on the outside but cold on the inside. Second the Family locker room is way too small. It's abvious that families with young children make up a significant portion of their clientele, but the Family locker room is way smaller than the women's or men's locker rooms. There are times when the Family locker room got too crowded. It also doesn't help that people seem to use it as a shortcut to the pool.

I had a membership with lifetime for 2 years, during all of the time the gym was always kept clean and the locker rooms spotless (this is great considering it is my shower 5 mornings a week). The staff were always friendly. I always workout early morning and found a great group of people who went regularly. Weights were always racked and clean and always plenty of room. Afternoon was slightly more crowded and more people who would leave weights unranked and on the equipment. Overall a fantastic time with Lifetime!

Great Gym, awesome staff, and feels like a resort. It is little more expensive but it also provides more that regular gym and no contract needed...
