I only visit here occasionally when I'm in town for business. Nice y only downside is the amount of free weights. If you're into crossfit or something this will be the place for you. If you are following starting strength and want to get strong you might have to wait for equipment.
I love this gym! The atmosphere is nice and welcoming and the staff are so helpful. I have been a member for a couple of years now and still enjoy going almost every day. 4 stars because parking is atrocious and I have seriously considered switching gyms because of the parking ALONE. You can buy a parking pass for the parking garage next door..... but I already pay $60 for a membership.... that is genuinely my only complaint about this Y! Overall I would totally recommend.

love this Y, but agree with others the parking is horrible, still they have a great pool, sauna & steam rm. And the towel service is awesome!

The actual Y is not that bad but the swim instructor was horrible we learned absolutely nothing because she wouldn't get in the water when i asked her about it she said we were her last class and she was tired by the time it got to our class...... total waste of time and money maybe they should have someone else teach that last class that has a little more energy

This Y is very political and you can guess what they tend to lean to.. I like going here and all its convenient and close to work.Other then every tv being stuck on the fake news network and all the old people complaining its okay.

Unlike OneLife (which is the gym about a mile away on Monticello Avenue) the Blocker YMCA doenst have parking and is open less long and is slightly less clean but it serves the purpose and for the most part the people who work at the YMCA are friendly.

The Y itself is very nice. There are lots of good classes and equipment and the staff is kind, considerate, and helpful. The only negative to this Y is the parking. It's completely hit or miss as the parking lot is tiny and the rest is hoping that you find a spot on the road. Other than parking there is nothing to complain about and it's a great place to work out.

Large gym with many different rooms specific for what you want to work on. Steam room and sauna in the locker rooms and a good sized pool. They also have a basketball court, racquetball courts, classrooms, etc. There are rooms that I've only just discovered and I've been going here for years!
Been coming here 3 years, most of the staff are very friendly. Overall decently clean facility with good variety of equipment and plenty of workout space, machines, and weights as well as good entertainment screens. Wish it was open later on weekends (like OneLife or ODU's gym).
Giving it 3 stars because of the way they hound you to get out the last 10 minutes they're open on weekends. When they recognize you're a familiar face over 3 years time, you would think they'd understand you know to get out before closing. *Facepalm*
I've been going here 3 yrs, and I love it. I've tried every class from yoga to kickboxing. I've tried racket ball and basketball!! Whew! From sauna to steam room to hot tub to pool everyday I can find something different.
I feel confident leaving my kids because the childcare area has an open view of anyone walking in the hall.
Plenty of staff yet i can have a peaceful time and enjoy myself
P.S. they also have a kids Zumba now(so cute)
Of all the YMCAs that I've visited, this is my absolute favorite! So much to choose from and plenty of fun for the kids. Very friendly, upbeat atmosphere! Love the energy here!
