An excellent, passionate teacher with loads of both self defense and competition experience. Professor John McKean is the best jiu jitsu instructor in SLC!

John is a great instructor, patient with beginners and pitches his classes for all belt levels. The culture at the gym is respectful, and the team is friendly and supportive. If you're considering doing jiujitsu, or if you're in town and want to train, go check out Combat Arts!

John is a great professor and has created a culture of learning, humility and acceptance. The gym is right downtown and has members from all belt ranks. You should go here!

My first introduction to Brazilian jiu jitsu. John is a fantastic instructor. He breaks down concepts and moves so that it's easy for beginners to follow along. All around, just a great person and mentor. Classes 2 times a day on most days.

This is an excellent place to train. The instructor John is both very knowledgeable and clear in his teaching. The environment and the other students were very welcoming to me as a new student, and I would recommend this program for anyone who wants to learn BJJ or get in great shape!

Great hidden gem in downtown Salt Lake. Both the Jiu Jitsu and fitness classes are top notch. The gym also has a great community of students. Can't recommend the place enough.

Combat Arts SC is the bees knees! Whether it's self defense, competition, or fitness, Professor McKean can tailor the experience for you. He is more than fair as a business owner, and a comprehensive instructor. This is the best gym/ martial arts school I have ever attended.

Professor John McKean runs a small friendly dojo located in an eclectic business center in downtown Salt Lake City. I was welcomed warmly and enjoyed a great workout with highly skilled students and a superior instructor. If I lived in SLC I would be a student at Combat Arts.
