Never ever think about getting a membership there. I tried to cancel my membership in April (30 days) notice, but obviously they were closed due to pandemic. Once they opened again I was charged for to the next month right away AND THEY WOULD NOT WANT TO REFUND IT. I spoke to the manager, Cathy, tried to explain everything but she didn't want to listen so I had to cancel my account and dispute the transaction with my bank. Unheard unprofessionalism and rudeness.
I read some not so good reviews of this gym before going and I was completely awestruck when I got there. Great gym with great equipment and kind staff. Every piece of equipment one could use. Perfect place for any type of fitness enthusiast. All the equipment was new, clean and fully functional. I don't see how somebody could write a bad review.
I have had a pass to The Gym for 2 years now. Though the staff rotates frequently, their best staff members have been there the whole time and seem to be the "core" employees. Everyone has always been friendly and helpful. I love this gym because it has a great location, good facilities, and is not overcrowded. The only negative is that the times the pool is accessible are split with The Regent residents, but most of the time that is not an issue at all. Upscale and in the heart of downtown, The Gym blows Vasa out of the water.
Honestly in disbelief. I worked out here for 1.5 years and canceled my membership and followed their policy guidelines. Then out of the blue I get a call from a debt collector that I owe City Creek. They never tried to call, text, email or anything of the sort. It was a minor balance and I would have paid quickly without a fuss. But businesses just don't care and do whatever it take to make a dollar. Do not recommend.
I'm editing a review I posted earlier where I couldn't reach anyone at the gym by phone and gave a 2 star rating. I also had another issue just trying to get a locker. I'm jumping my rating to 4 stars because I just had an employee at the gym who stepped up and did an awesome job of helping with everything to get me situated. I have a very hectic schedule, so those small things really matter as I have zero time to juggle them. Just one person like that, can make a big difference in a business, and earns mine. Really appreciate that employee. Made me feel pretty good about long use of this gym.
The Gym has been great. But there are a few staff that really make the experience top notch. One employee in particular, Ryan, definitely makes this true. He is always cheerful, confident, positive and helpful. He's a pleasant face and personality to encounter at any juncture of your Gym visit.
I like the Gym, and when people ask where I workout during lunch I say....the Gym. The staff are friendly, and happy to help where they can. I like the lockers and no need to bring you own lock. There are several rooms for classes and there is always an open treadmill or stationary bike. My employer subsidizes the membership so I feel like the price is totally worth it. Also the adjacent building with racquetball courts seals the deal.
This Gym is the best!! I have been a member since they opened and love it. The staff is always friendly and helpful and the trainers I work with help me see results! Great equipment and awesome downtown location.

I have been an on-again/off-again member of The Gym at City Creek for a few years now. Probably more off than on but that has never been due to the facilities, employees, or management.
This gym is the perfect balance between Planet Fitness and a dedicated strength training facility. There are plenty of cardio and weight machines and a very large selection of free weights and benches. I do wish that there were a few more cages and benches for high-traffic times but I think that it speaks highly of the quality of the gym that it remains packed in the early evenings. There are other, more affordable options out there, after all.
Some of the negative reviews on Google and Yelp shed light on some areas for improvement that I feel management, particularly Cathy Waters, are directly tackling. Equipment was, in the past, frequently in disrepair but the repair/replace cycle has steadily improved and, if anything, is a minor inconvenience. The front-desk staff have always been incredibly friendly and warm, though I do wish they spent more time in the evenings keeping the plates organized.
However, I do think that the biggest opportunity that they have is to modernize their billing process so that they are less reliant on paper copies when you first sign-up. This issue may have already been resolved, but I hope that the security risks of writing down financial information to be entered into the system later are acknowledged and remedied.

What an expensive disappointment! I knew I was paying for location when I changed gym's to be closer to work. I pay three times as much for a membership at The Gym, and I was willing to pay the difference for convenience. So far it's been nothing but frustration and attitude. The management needs to take a class on customer service and people skills. Don't stand behind the front desk if you don't want patrons to look to you for assistance. The equipment is in need of a serious upgrade. Why they have so many cardio machines that no one uses and only a few of the ones that people actually use must have been a negotiation with the vendor and not for the people actually paying the bills. I've had the unfortunate experience of calling the front desk twice for information twice now... the staff is confused, unorganized, not trained and needs instruction on how to answer the phone and how to route calls. If you have to leave a message for the manager, don't expect a call back.
This facility could be amazing, if it got an overhaul starting with management.

The only gym in Salt Lake City that is a true executive level gym. The design of the space is relaxing and open in a modern feel style. Amazing men and women's locker rooms with sauna/steam room and private showers. The pool is also best in the state.

Good place to work out, all ranges of fitness levels, not judgy. Exactly what you'd want in a gym
I love working out at City Creek. It's always clean and the equipment is well maintained. I have done personal training with Luke and my experience has been amazing! I've gotten results that I didn't even think were possible. I've tried dieting and exercising on my own, but having a trainer to help hold me accountable and guide me has made all the difference!

Everyone is friendly. Plenty od equipment to use. Peyton has helped me in so many ways with my workout.
Update: the gym has gotten MUCH better since this summer... front desk is now more courteous & attentive, the broken machines have been repaired and cleanliness seems to be up to par - improvement! Will update again as things progress
-----------
Been a member for 3 years now but with no better options downtown I continue to deal with broken machines, a dirty facility, bad customer service, poor temperature control, etc. The bright spot is a couple good class instructors.
Private, professional, and distinguished facility. Spacious and tasteful spaces with plenty of privacy and accommodations. Separate building with large courts for an even more private experience, would definitely recommend! Especially for those looking for an elevated exercise experience.
I am always greeted with a smile by a staff member first thing when I enter. The Gym is clean and equipment is well maintained. Love the environment!
Staff and management are great! The gym is very clean and has any equipment you can imagine. Great place to go and I would highly recommend anyone to workout here.
It's unfortunate you cannot leave a zero star review. I have never encountered such incompetence at an establishment.. probably ever. Not even the DMV. The staff is completely incompetent. In every way imaginable. I could spend all day breaking out every single visit and how you are never greeting (you exit the elevator as the entrance DIRECTLY in front of the front desk). The staff doesn't even know how to work their computer systems and with the lack of total knowledge I am even wondering IF they have a "system". Simple requests, like a receipt or a statement is an impossibility. Literally. Which they say they have no way of providing basic RECEIPTS! If you reach out needing anything, update your payment details, make changes to your membership.. expect the most difficult process ever and that is after you finally get a response. It has taken me over a month going back and forth with a request my 6 year old niece could handle in 10 minutes. Over a month and I still have no resolve..
The Gym itself is overpriced and the hours around holidays (I'm not talking Christmas or Thanksgiving) I'm talking everything including Valentines Day they close for or close insanely early. And naturally, they are closed on Sunday.
I will be taking my $100+/month elsewhere.
I can't WAIT until someone opens another gym downtown to compete with this junk show!
If there was a "zero stars" option it would be more fitting... for all the reasons stated in the other low reviews this place is subpar. Been a member for 3 years now but with no better options downtown I continue to deal with broken machines, a dirty facility, bad customer service, poor temperature control, etc. The bright spot is a couple good class instructors.
Pros:
* This place has every peice of equipment you could think of
* Never too crowded
* Never had to wait on equipment
* Never had to deal with gym horrors like someone doing curls in the squat rack; people who are here are here to train
* Spa, sauna, and swimming all good
* Wonderful yoga sessions
Cons:
* If you need a "personal touch" to your gym, this isn't the place for you; there are great classes, but if you need a PT go to 24hour or any UT Cross-snap
* 69$/mo., 100$ sign up (keeps out the crowds lol)
Facility: 4 stars
Staff: 2 stars
Management: 1 star
Location: 3 stars
Accessibility: 1 star
Affordability: 3 stars
Crowd: 3 stars
Facility: Equipment is mostly new and kept up to date. Things that break are fixed. Things that are worn down are updated. Has about everything that you would want for cardio and weight lifting. I never did any of the classes, but from what I had seen, they weren't ever too crowded. But the layout is kind of strange. the machines over here, the weights over there. Plus, the 1 elevator as the only entrance (more detail below) is so slow and really annoying.
Staff: Not the friendliest bunch. Mostly unenthusiastic looks, unhappy hi's, and not excited to help you if there is an issue. Plus, they never know what the problem is and always say you'll have to talk to management who is never there.
Management: Probably the worst management I've ever dealt with. Slow to respond to anything. Calls. Emails. Texts. They don't really care about you as a member. You are a customer that should feel privileged to be allowed to enter their sacred facility. I went through a long back and forth game of being forced to re-sign up as an individual member since my name was "lost" in the system, and forced to pay the start up fee again. Then, I obliged and paid it. Then, a few months later, my scanner stops working. I check my credit card and they never charged me for anything. So I guess a couple free months for me, but seriously, they couldn't even figure out how to charge my credit card. And then guess, what, my name and number was lost out of the system, again! I'm done. Not going back to this place.
Location: Cool that it's in city creek, good if you live downtown. But for me it was a little drive.
Accessibility: This is maybe the worst part of the whole gym. Seriously, they only came up with the great plan to have one elevator to lead to the entrance. This elevator is used by the entire City Creek mall as well, stops at all floors, and gets pretty crowded. There is no stairs access. you can't easily get into the gym in anyway. You are forced through one, crowded, slow, elevator, in and out. There kind of is a back way, through the condos' elevators, but it's a maze and takes longer.
Affordability: Not the best priced gym, but about what you would expect for a city center, supposedly upscale gym. At least they don't force yearly contracts down your throat. It's something like 80 bucks a month for an individual membership, plus first and last month, so your first charge should be like 240 bucks, if they figure out how to charge your credit card and if their computers remember your name.
Crowd: The people there are cool. Mostly downtown living people that are well off. You don't get the gym rat or bro vibe. If anything, you get the "you're below me" vibe from some people trying to look rich and successful, from males and females. But, kind of like new yorkers, the people have a think candy shell, it still is a shell, but once you break it people are friendly and you won't really have a problem.
Overall: I won't go to this gym ever again. The only bad part is there aren't many other options that are in the same class as this gym. Vasa is a zoo, 24 hour fitness is rundown, and the local gyms are too small and don't have everything that you need. So if you are willing to put up with some inconveniences, can afford it, fit in with the people, and can deal with the elevator in and out, then it is the gym for you.
The class instructors are great, but management is incompetent. Less than half the machines work, there's no a/c in the heat of summer, the hot tubs and steam rooms are often broken, the ceiling's caved in twice. Meanwhile, the manager uses the outrageously priced membership dues to buy ugly art and sculptures.
It's unfortunate you cannot leave a zero star review. I have never encountered such incompetence at an establishment.. probably ever. Not even the DMV. The staff is completely incompetent.
