Planet fitness is an inexpensive place to work out. They have plenty of treadmills, steppers, and stationary bikes. Also, lots of weights and other exercise equipment. The staff is always great. Only 4 stars because they don't have a towel service. If they did, it would cost more.
Overall 3 star rating. I love the convenience and unbeatable price. Not to mention the great location.
But they're low staffed, and their current staff could do better at keeping it stocked with paper towels, cleaning the floors and giving new members a tour such as myself.
I had to ask where everything was when I became a member. The email said I'd get a tour but never did.
The staff here is helpful, and on most weekday mornings it isn't too busy. I rarely have to wait for any equipment. On an afternoon or early evening it can get more busy. I appreciate all the TRX equipment they have, it makes doing body weight routines easier. My only complaint is that they have too many Smith Machines, and no Olympic Bars or squat racks.
I have not been to a gym on quite a while since going to VASA shortly after they took over the Golds gym locations. I thought at first that it would suck not having a pool, hot tub, sauna, or steam room but they make up for it die to their "judgment free zone" Its a good place to go if you want to just be yourself and workout how you want and not be pressured or intimidated. The atmosphere is very clean and smells fresh inside. I was very impressed by how clean everything was inside. The staff members at the desk in the morning were very friendly and accomadating with a free tour of the facility and giving me alot of great information. I signed up for a black card membership with their manager Kayla. She is amazing and has a great smile, I was drawn in immediately by her friendliness. The club seems well managed by her and her team. I'm excited to work on getting fit at this awesome gym and maybe get some guidance from the super cool fitness trainer Ty. I heard all the fitness classes they provide are free and included with either membership.

I belonged to the Planet Fitness in Concord Ca on Port Chicago Highway. I loved it!! The staff was friendly personable and easy going. Here in Salt Lake City the staff (from my personal perspective) does their job however they are not very personable or friendly.
Has everything you need to have a good workout for a very good price. The staff is really friendly. It gets a little packed sometimes but it is expected. My only complain is that i dont think they really enforce the clothing rules but it is my own pet peeve to see people in jeans, cargo shorts or button ups working out.

My work out area and weights , punching bag is better equipt and suites for a mean, strong g workout than Planet Fitness.....it is over rated
Good location but I'll cancel my membership because after i got it was when i realized that your heaviest dumbbells are 75 lbs, i need more that that, love the location and the massage chairs and beds but i need more than 75 pounds on dumbbells sorry guys, and also i think that you need chest benches no those ones that you need to drag them under the machine to do chest, i don't judge the others but i don't like that way
I love planet fitness and the downtown slc location is awesome! Even though the slogans and motivational phrases everywhere seem corny or cheesy, they actually make for a great environment and judgement free zone! I enjoy feeling like I can be myself and workout the way I'd like. I love the black card services and the hydromassage table! So it's just great and everything is in such good condition!
They seem to have really improved! The black card allows you into their mini spa area and I love the tanning and hydromassages. The gym area definitely gets super packed in the evenings when everyone gets off work but I just try to go in the mornings.
Right downtown, convenient. They had a weird thing going on where they were letting homeless people chill at their location. I almost cancelled my membership because of that, but held onto it.
I've been going here for a while now, the gym is clean and all of the equipment is kept in good shape. Great value and great price.
Great value for a gym. Crowded in the early evening but if you can go a different time, there are plenty of open machines. It's not a high priced gym so don't expect the world but for perfect for location, staff and price.
The exercise equipment is well maintained but it would be nice if they added a few extras, such as the pectoral flys, which always seems to be in use. The women's locker room is a bit dirty and the showers are gross. During some parts of the day it gets very crowded.
This place is the equivalent of shopping at Walmart. You get what you pay for.
I don't know if it's the type of inconsiderate people this place attracts or the lack of staff doing their job but the place is always a mess with weights and accessories scattered all over the floor. I would rather be here exercising than walking around looking for things and picking up after everyone.
Too frequently the paper rolls are empty and the cleaner bottles are empty.
The manager enjoys hitting the hunk alarm just for the fun of it with no actual reason. It's very annoying and makes the place feel like a circus.
This place can get extremely crowded so expect to wait in line to use anything
The parking gate is always having issues, making a long wait to get in and out.
It doesnt matter what time I come or how long I stay, there's always an old man that likes to hang out in the locker room naked. Sometimes blow drying his gentiles. Sometimes just standing in the mirror or watching TV. He will be there when I arrive and when I leave. Always naked. I've complained to staff. They just laughed.
This place really is a joke.
Been coming to this location for a few years now and overall, I like it. However, the girl who works the front desk early in the morning during the week is in desperate need of some customer service training. 98% of time she's just straight up rude. When I arrive and approach the desk to scan my barcode, I always smile and say "hello" and "thank you" and what response do I get back? Nothing. As I leave, I stop by the desk to get my parking validation and always say, "thanks, have a nice day." What response do I get? Nothing. Once in a blue moon I'll get response, but otherwise, all I get is silence and a really pissed off look. At least TRY and force out a "Hello"' or "Good Morning" or "Have a Nice Day." It goes a long way. The rest of the staff I've come across have been super friendly.
It's a great place for the people who are seriously interested to lose weight! A cheap afforable membership
Very disappointed in their staff and customer service. My wife and I worked out here for nearly a year until I got military orders to move, we didn't have time to cancel before leaving because I had to leave on such short notice. We called to cancel and they said to email their manager our information, but 3 months later we realized they were still charging us. When we called again to ask why, they rudely blamed us for assuming they would cancel it just because we sent them an email, even though that is what we were instructed to do. Finally my wife had to fly back to cancel it and when she went in, their internet was down, so instead of taking down her info and helping us out they told her that her only option was to come back later and hopefully the internet would be working then.
I hope they don't treat all their customers like this, especially ones who are canceling for reasons beyond their control, such as military service.

Can't really say what the inside of the gym is like I've never made it in. I signed up for a gym membership online and when I went to visit the downtown salt lake location there was no parking I called and asked where their parking lot is they said there is none it's all public paid parking. The closest lot is $3 an hour. They don't validate unless you're a black card member. For that money sign up for 24 hour or orangetheory. I guess I'm going back to vasa. Trying to get a refund but HQ is difficult to get a hold of they might get an extra star or two if they can own up to this and give me a refund.
I came in for a membership here in November. They decide $20/mo Black Card would be best so I signed up. I shortly realized after that they close at 7pm?? I was used to the other locations being open later. I tried canceling right after this but they don't allow you to cancel over the phone. So for 4 months my card has now been charged a total of $196.72 (not including the $50 overdraft fee I got from their random additional $41.68 charge right after I signed up). So this averages roughly $50/month to a gym I have not once been able to use because of their limited hours and inability to cancel unless you come in.
Since they don't allow you to call in or cancel online, I took time to go into their location. I spoke with their front desk person expressing my concern that I have not once been into the gym because they close at 7pm, which isn't possible with my schedule having a child. They told me that in order to cancel, I now have to pay an ADDITIONAL $61.98 to make them stop charging my card every month.
This is now $246.78 out of my account for a gym membership I was never able to use.
I would highly recommend going to a gym that works WITH you as a customer, rather than charging unexplained additional fees, and also charging you three times more, to stop being charged monthly. WHAT A JOKE.
I wanted to join because they said they had a special, $5 down and $10 per month no contact no hidden fees. WARNING: they hit you with a surprise $39 membership fee later on! What's with the misleading $39 (no hidden fees)membership fee. The special was special for them not me, I refused to play there bait and switch game!
Facilities are well maintained, staff are friendly, and it doesn't get too busy, even during their peak hours. I've only ever had to wait for a machine once or twice in the 6 months I've been going there. If you utilizing the parking lot, it's worth it to upgrade to their Black Card level, as they will give you parking validation for up to 2 hours with your membership per day.
Decent gym as far as facilities go, but parking is overpriced and sometimes the validation tickets (only given to black card members) don't work. Plus I've been charged late fees by this location multiple times even though they have two forms of payment on file, and they seem completely incompetent every time I try to get it fixed. If you can afford to go elsewhere, definitely do.
This planet fitness location is great! It's very clean and well maintained. Lots of equipment. I've never had to wait to use anything. There are shower facilities in the locker room and plenty of privacy for changing. Also "bring your own lock" day use lockers. Great discounts for state and local government employees if you ask! Also this is right across the street from the Library red line trax stop, so easy to access from public transit.

Leave your car in the 'burbs and commute. Salt lake city has great public transit. If more of us used it we wouldn't have so much pollution

You know what, I'm a new-time gym-goer. And I was really surprised at how nice this place was. They only accept checking accounts, so I couldn't sign up at the door because I didn't have that information on me, but they let me in for free the first day. Very generous!
There are plenty of machines to use, and multiples of each one so that you can almost always find the right machine to use. There's plenty of weights to go around, treadmills, classes, etc. It's also in a nice location. Easy to get to with trax or bus. I haven't tried parking yet, maybe another post later with that information.
It is clean inside, the employees are helpful, and it's an upbeat atmosphere. No, this isn't a gym for those that consider fitness as a job, but for someone who only wants to go two or three times a week with some light training, I love it. Thanks!
Personally I think the spa a joke but it's decently priced and I never see anyone creepy in there. Every time I've gone there the workers have been polite and accommodating. The building is kept pretty clean but I definitely feel comfortable working out there.
