I reserve my 5 stars for the black card gyms that are cleaner, larger, and have more amenities. This gym is probably the best non-black card in NW San Antonio.

The staff at this gym are definitely assume the worst in their guests. Beware. They highly embarrassed me when accusing me of trying to steal someone elses gym account. Plot twist it was my boyfriends and he was allowed a guest. I left and went to a better gym with my non black membership. Calling the manager tomorrow and will update.

This is the nicest Golds Gym. Well worth the extra amount.

If you want a membership for life, this place is great. If you want to receive calls from debt collection agencies months after you 'ended your membership' this place is also great. Not a single email or phone call from them, was literally told that my balance was taken care of when I turned in the paperwork to cancel my membership and all of a sudden, FOUR MONTHS LATER I get a call from a debt collection agency? They will literally lie to your face about your membership apparently, and then sell your alleged 'debt' with no warning whatsoever. Terrible business, do NOT join this gym.

A small, 24 hour gym. Perfect for medical students with in facility sleep centers. Very hard to find equipment during peak hours.

I would give them 5 stars if the parking didnt suck so bad. There are only a few spots in the front which sometimes you have to wait until someone is leaving to get a spot or you can park in the back on University grounds and risk being towed passed a certain time.

for me it's the best ...

last night one of the employees, along with a girl, faltered about it and made fun of me saying many horrible things

as a client of the gym, this was racism and they have to change personnel, it is not fair that they treat clients like that

The facilities are good enough.
Been going to this gym for about 2 years.

Friendly staffs

The equipment here sucks. They have six or seven cable machines in this facility that nobody uses because you have to guesstimate how much each plate weighs, the very first plate starts with the number 2 but that doesn't mean that it weighs 2 lbs for all I know it weighs 10 lbs when I asked the the gentleman who worked here about it he didn't even know himself but claims that he uses them and the number 20 is the heaviest he goes.. The bench press machine that I was using they took it out and replaced it with an outdated
free weight bench press so now I have to make do again. They need new and upgraded equipment pronto. They do however fix the machines fairly quick when it breaks and for what I've seen they keep the place clean. The only thing good about this place for people like us who take working out seriously is the convenience of being open for 24 hours a day.

been going to this gym for about 5 years now with no complaints other then the lack of upgrading and the lack of upkeep in the dry sauna and the steam room.i have not seen a piece of upgraded equipment, weights, dumbbells, kettle bells, exercise matts, benches, basketballs etc. i never said anything just found a way to make it work. but it wasn't until recently when i was informed at the front desk that golds had a made a policy change in 2016 in how they do the black/gold levels. i had signed up for ruby level some 5 years ago at another babcock location with intention as merton minter being my home location. i was informed that i would have to pay an additional $20/month to continue working out at this location. even though i had signed up for a ruby level to work out at a ruby level gym does not matter. well this golds gym is no black level and golds gym no longer matters as i will be canceling my membership promptly

I called and spoke to a guy named David, or so how that's how he identified himself, and let me tell you, he is one guy who cares nothing about service but just a sell. Sign up for a black membership somewhere else. I'm a former golds member who loves Golds.... But this location only hires people like "David"

Snooty little girl working up front over night. She sure could use an attitude adjustment. Horrible customer service! Your front desk people are the face representing Gold's Gym. People like her, the dark haired girl with the glasses up front?? Quite ruining your reputation and far from an upstanding employee. I could re-new my contact? I refuse to. Horrible business ethics. You should re-evaluate your staff. They should want to be bringing in the customers. Not turning them away. Consider yourself with one less customer.

Very clean facilities with polite front desk workers and instructors. I personally recommend their 3D body-scan which is complimentary for the first time to all members. With the hourly group classes, instructors can be hit or miss. I took one class where the instructor was incredibly amicable, always cracking jokes and getting to know her students and another which favored only "elite" students while being condescending to everyone else. Definitely take your time sampling different classes in the first week to see which instructors you get along best with. Considering the class I went to today, they will have a trainer for everyone. Mine just happens to not be the strict, no-cool-down, glare-at-you kind. No thank you. However, I do believe some people enjoy and even respect this sort of instructor, so not not knocking it. Get to know what kind of athlete you are and plan accordingly!

Love the diversity of classes, and I will be a consistent member. The facilities contain an outdoor pool, two levels of equipment (bottom being mostly strength and upper mostly cardio), a basketball gym, shower/sauna area, and two studios along the side. Calm, open place to work out.

If you are a SERIOUS lifter, bodybuilder, power lifter, or just simply serious about bettering yourself in any and every way, DO NOT come to this Gold's Gym or any Gold's Gym for that matter. They will make you pay a ridiculous amount of money for a poor quality gym as well as punish you and kick you out for working hard, or "Working too hard" as one of the employees told me and then kicked me out. You might as well save your money, and go workout at Planet Fitness. I am very disappointed and upset at this so called "Gym" and this franchise. Now if you want to pay a lot of money to just sit on some couches and watch TV, while sipping on some champagne, wearing a turtle neck, and some high heels, and occasionally look at the weights and IMAGINE bettering your average self then I suggest you lift here at Gold's Gym; But again, if you want to be more than Average and truly better yourself and achieve your goals, save yourself some time and money, and go to a different and REAL GYM. Not these establishments who sell lies and hate hard workers and true champions.

Been coming to this gym for 2 1/2 years but since converted to "black" level I have only since it go downhill. Parking is a nightmare (you will get a ticket if you don't park in one of the 8 spots they have available for the whole gym and that's that the employees take about 7 of those). And speaking of the employees, the front desk people are lazy, will hassle you for no reason, and are generally never up to much while on the clock. For a few days their system was down, again, and they put a pad and pencil down for guest to write themselves in, as though it was our job to check ourselves in. As mentioned before I been coming here for over 2 years and get regularly accosted to show my ID to verify as if I was buying a drink at a bar. If they where paying any attention they would notice that I am there 2-5 times a week. There are also weird fitness classes during peak hours in the middle of the weight room or court. Maintenance staff is rude and lazy too, there are never any towels available and the locker room smells like an old shoe. The pool is never heated and has been looking green as of late. The only pluses are that it's near to where I live, not very busy (probably cause they over charge), and there's a full size basketball court. Definitely not really Black level despite what they try to say.

Very nice building and outdoor pool. High end gym that has some issues with parking and capacity at rush hour (4-7PM). The gym was originally build for the medical center before being taken over by Gold's and open to the public...which has limited 'black' level access. Due to the risk of overcrowding and occasional difficulty finding a parking space, I often opt for other nearby gyms unless its a weekend or off-hour.

This gym is more expensive than the other God's, but it's very nice. Always clean, not overcrowded, cool temps, and plenty of stationary equipment. Televisions are attached to each stationary device and you can watch your choice. The dressing rooms and showers are nice where shampoos and wash gels are available as well as hairdryers. The outdoor pool is rarely used but laned for speed swimming. A small hottub is also available outside. There are a variety of group classes available but not many times to choose from...enough. No classes on Sundays. The free weights are plentiful and a basketball court is present...indoors. Coffee is served each a.m. and a nice lounge are inside and out. One of the best parts about this gym is the 1/2 mile track right outside for run/walk. It's safe to walk even late at night. A volleyball court and tennis courts as well as bbq equipment I believe belong to the UT health science center and not sure how to reserve. There are also team sports outside....baseball, soccer....agaon, not sure how to reserve. The beauty of this space is that it's family oriented...you see it well used and many age groups. To have the wonderful gym...right there... is an awesome experience. I would have given 5 stars but parking is inconvenient. Limited Gold's parking, but you can park freely at the UTHSC after 3 p.m. I believe. I love this gym. It's well worth the money!!!

Went at night, weren't too many people there. Facility was clean and staff were helpful. It's a big facility and the towel service is one of the good things about this location.

October 19, 2017 15:01

Although the gym is smaller than most other black level Gold's Gyms, it still has a ton of facilities and resources to use. There is a sleeping room for the weary, and the restroom is fully stocked with clean towels, hair dryers, bath items, and even razors. The equipment is very up to date, and I enjoyed using some new machines and watching my favorite shows from my personal TV. Would definitely come here again to work out.

I originally signed up for a black level membership specifically to be able to go to this gym because it's closer to my work to work out and shower on the mornings. Unfortunately, I "lost" all my shower caddy with all its belongings, as well as a very expensive hairbrush on a different day. I'm not saying I didn't "lose" it, or accidentally leave it there. But I'm not that careless. Also, upon asking if my stuff had been turned in, the font desk was beyond rude and not helpful. Told me it wouldn't be up front and told me to go look in the staff laundry room myself. I've "lost" over $50 of my belongings at a black level gym and I will soon be downgrading my membership.
