I am going to start by saying that I have never been good at sports. I have always been a tad on the clumsy side while practicing a sport so I have never been hooked with any sports, even though I tried. I am 41 years old now, and with the exception of 4 years of yoga practice 8 years ago, I have never worked out in my life.! I have tried, but nothing ever got me hooked. I also developed a condition called "insulin resistant" a few years back, it basically means that my trigs and cholesterol levels are to the roof and that I deposit all that fat in my middle section. I take medication for it, but have never been able to loose weight, even after I tried and tried by changing my diet and exercising, it didn't matter what I did, my body was stuck.
One day I found ASL JunSur, they offered 3 classes and a free uniform. Learning a little bit of self-defense sounded great so I went for it. Its been 6 months now and I will try my very best to not miss one class. I will rush from work, try and beat traffic and make it to my class. I thought I was reaching an age when everything starts breaking and squeaking and I have now realized how wrong I was. I am stronger, leaner, healthier and I love how my body feels now. I learned how to be more disciplined in my practice and I LOVE IT. Master is a great teacher to the little ones and to the not so little ones like me. I have asked my friends to come and give it a try and I highly recommend this place. Everybody is nice and helpful.
Master asked us one day what putting on the belt meant to us. I gave it a good thought and for me, putting on my now yellow belt means empowerment. I can make my body do what I am taught, I can kick higher and higher every time and I can get better.
