My family has been going to this school for many years. My kids started at ages 7 and 5 and my husband was in his late 30s. The kids are now teenagers and my husband is, well older, and they all still attend. The owners are fabulous. Their teaching styles work well for all ages. They display patience and firmness. Respectfulness and hard work is a cornerstone of what they expect from their students. They hold everyone accountable for their actions (wearing proper uniform, treating others with respect, teaching the next generation of students). The school has many long term students. There are students with years and years of experience at this school to act as role models, mentors, and teachers to new students. This school is extremely family oriented. There are numerous events throughout the year for families to come together and have fun. There are Kids Night Out events where school age students can spend a few hours on a Saturday night playing games, watching movies, Nd eating pizza. From the very young to seniors, the school is for everyone.
Excellent school, great teachers, good culture, fair pricing, highly recommend!
I'm 66 years old and was able to complete my training and receive my 1st degree black belt in four years. The entire experience was done with professional on hands training by my instructors. I recommend this school to everyone..no matter your age.
After trying a few other schools we found Mu sool Won of South Austin. My 8 year old son has been going now for over two years and loves it. The classes are so flexible that they will fit just about any working parents schedule. The instructors are great and the kids learn how to be great leaders. The kids/parents nights out are always a blast and looked forward to by the whole family. The classes are very affordable compared to other schools when you consider your child can take as many classes as they like for no additional cost.
Mu Sool Won South Austin has been a great addition. It's comprehensive and effective. The instructors are highly knowledgeable, and helpful.
The owners/primary instructors are absolutely fantastic. Seemingly rare for martial arts schools, they have a great adult program on top of their children's program. There are plenty of adult classes on the schedule, and the instructors are very good about modifying the classes to accommodate medical conditions/limitations (like it or not, we all get more limited in what we can handle as we get older)
Classes are constantly changing, and the variety is good to help keep you interested. It's a good mix of exercise for the mind and body, incorporating forms, joint lock techniques, pressure points, falling technique, occasional intense workouts, and whatever else the instructor feels like the class needs.
My kids have been training with Ricky and Meghan Garcia since they were 5 years old, and we couldn't be happier. The school is very kid-friendly with a monthly "Kids Night Out" that is always well attended and even Halloween and Easter parties that everyone loves. There is a great sense of community and camaraderie within the school.
The martial art itself emphasizes self-control and respect for others. They learn a combination of kicking and punching techniques coupled with grapping and joint locks. It is appropriate for ages 5+ and the goals are well-defined.
Additionally, the school is not a belt-factory: belt-testing fees are reasonable and well-spaced.
