This review is for the Body Flow class on Sunday mornings. So glad to have this class back on the schedule and Brenda is a fantastic instructor!

Most of the cardio is broken making unsafe to use. Kid's club was great and the women lockers were good.

I cancelled my gym membership as well as my add ons and there was a bit of confusion around how the cancellation worked and misinformation given to me. I was billed a bit extra due to an add on not being fully processed. However, with all of that being said, Timothy (The General Manager of this location) helped clear up any issues and really saved the day when working with me. He took the time to hear me out and responded with urgency. I was refunded for the account that was supposed to be cancelled earlier.

As for the gym itself. Fairly standard place to lift and not very crowded compared to other locations (especially gold's gym south). Friendly staff and has all the equipment you could want or need. They recently added some new equipment, upgraded others, and changed the layout.

Changing rooms are excellent. Restrooms clean. Parking is good, and safe. I like the cinema room. Lots of free weights. Machines are good, selection good. Found a few broken features upstairs on cardio machines near rowers. Staff great. I would prefer a towel service. This is a great gym. I am very comfortable here. Not my normal gym location, but I visit and like it.

I'm a current member here. I chose it bc it's the closest gym to my apt. This place definitely needs a "face lift". It smells old and dirty. A few weeks ago there was a huge smashed roach with its guts squirted out on the floor in front of the stairs that was there when I got there and still there when I left. Yuck! There's alot of broken machines with signs on them. They get fixed then the signs come back up. Their fans are dusty and the women's scale is broken. When I signed up last year I added a trainer. I never got my full training sessions in before I canceled the training help. I didn't even get my 360 body scan update. This place is just pretty run down and I'm not liking the new change from 24 hrs to regular hours. I'm about to cancel my membership and drive a few more blocks to either Lifetime or 24 hr fitness.

Dirty and always unorganized. Trash cans are usually overflowing, weights are seldom in the right place, and staff is not friendly. It's one thing for members not reracking weights, but when you see trainers not reracking weights it shows lack of respect and pride to the place they work/train. Oh, FYI, it does not open at 7am on sundays, it opens at 8 and that's only if the opener is there on time, which is rare.

I have been to many gyms in my life and this has to be the worst gym I have ever experienced. I have been with Gold's several times in the past without any problems but this particular location is really detrimental to Gold's reputation. Be careful when you sign up at this location because I specifically asked not to be in any form of contract because in a few months I was no longer going to live in the area. The salesman assured me that they no longer had contracts, I only had to pay monthly, and could cancel the next month if i wanted to without any fees. A few months later I canceled in Jan and have been charged every month since then. Every time I called to speak to manager he was in a "conference call". Nobody has that many conference calls working at a gym. Later on, a guy at the front desk finally pulled up my information and explained that the salesman (that no longer works there) did indeed enter me into a contract for a year which means he intentionally lied to me when i specifically told him I would not sign up if there was a contract involved. After a little research, you can easily see that this location has a reputation for lying, losing paperwork, stealing money, not returning calls, and making it almost impossible for members to cancel services. Not to mention old worn out equipment and horrible customer service on many levels. Do not sign up at this location or Gold's in general its just a name brand. Many other gyms provide much better services and equipment.

Be very careful when you sign up and especially when you add a family member to your existing plan. Charged us for the enhanced plan without even knowing. I purchased the basic plan added my wife so they upgraded without our knowledge. Should have listened to the previous reviews. This should be fun when we cancel our membership.

This gym is overall welcoming. From the outside it doesn't appear to be much but once you get inside it provides the necessary accommodations. The front desk is usually staffed by a worker who greets you and actually makes you feel like they're excited you're there. Any of the Gold's Gym staff are usually willing to help you with most requests if you ask. The free weight section is usually busy but not to the point where you can't do what you need to do. They have a large amount of cardio machines, as well as the cardio cinema, if that's what you're looking for. The only downside is a small sauna that is co-ed, but there have only been a handful of times that I could not use it because it was too crowded.

The gym is spacious clean and surprisingly quiet besides the thumps of barbells hitting mat. Taylor made it easy to sign up for membership and was quite personable. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it would be better if they had a water area here with 24hr fitness right across the street having a megagym with pool jacuzzi steam room etc...

The only golds location in south austin with water area is bee caves @ westlake. And that's not really south.

But this is a nice clean location with a good vibe to get your lift or cardio on.

This is the worst Gym I have ever been to. I joined this Gym when it was called World's Gym in 1992. My wife and I recently switched to Life Time because the cardio equipment is old and not maintained. The elliptical machines shake, clank, and jerk. Moreover, some of the controls on many of the elliptical machines do not work. My wife injured her hip running on the treadmills because they are so poorly maintained. The treadmills are unlevel, shake, and some were stuck in an incline or decline. One time, my wife was running on one of the treadmills and a corner fell to the floor. Before we quit, my wife and I worked out early in the morning, and many times, there was no toilet paper or soap in the bathrooms. Moreover, the bathrooms were always filthy. The spin room has really bad ventilation so I tried to leave the door open during the class, but the spin instructor, Kathy, insisted that it remain almost completely closed even though one or more of the attendees often wore heavy perfume/cologne, which made it difficult to breath especially when you are gasping for air during the class. Kathy, the spin instructor, made comments about how the loud music during the spin class had damaged her hearing, but when I asked her to turn it down, she refused. On at least two occasions, when the Gym was supposed to open at 5 am after a holiday, we arrived at 5 am along with about 20 members, and no one showed to open the Gym until about 5:45 am or 6 am. On one of these occasions, the spin class was canceled so my wife walked in the spin room to spin by herself and Kathy made her leave and would not let her workout in the spin room by herself because she said it was a liability issue, which makes no sense in light of the fact that members workout by themselves all the time in the cardio cinema room. I complained to management many times to no avail. I am so glad we switched Gyms. I just wished I would not have waited so long.

So far so good. Pretty big. 6 shower stalls in the men's. My review might change... They are playing finding nemo in the cinema, but I won't hold that against them yet.

I love this place! Great people that run it so kind of help. Just a nice gym to get the job done.

Had the worst experience with cancellation. I went in during January to cancel my membership. First of all, even though I paid a month in advance when I started my membership, I was told that I would be charged one full billing cycle again and that my payment in advance was only good after I paid another billing cycle. Fine, paid it, but then I was charged again the following month. I called the gold's gym and spoke to the manager emailed my cancellation contract and still did not hear back from her. When am I going to get my refund? You guys have the worst cancellation methods.

Garden variety Gold's Gym. Needs more 5 - 10 pound free weights, but awesome machines and a helpful staff.

Love the classes and it's always clean. The group instructors are great but the front desk staff is awful. I've heard them making fun of other patrons before and that was unsettling. Overall I like it.

Golds gym was the gym closer to me so I decided to give it a try, everything was ok till I moved and went personally filled out the paperwork with the manager for the cancellation and then I noticed I have been getting charge for 3 months after still, after u called this location the staff told me that usually after cancellations you still get charge for two more cycles, well two more cycles turned into a few months so I decided to put a stop payment with my bank a few months later I found a 186 dollars charge on my account AGAIN. I called the person who did my cancellation on a Friday, her name was Sharon she had just gotten promoted to a management position back then, to what she reply she will need 4 more days to look for the paperwork and then she will see if a refund could be made. I strongly suggest if you need get a membership here you used an account you can close right after their closing procedures are terrible, they ran my card for charges over 300 and I still haven't been able to get this resolved. Terrible customer services

This location of Golds is O.K. It is definitely an older location, and relatively cleanly. I have put my phone down on the floor numerous times and it has attracted a hefty amount of dust on it. If you are looking for a cardio focused gym, this might not be the one for you. Most of the treadmills and machines are either non-working or very outdated. In terms of the weights, this gym has a squat rack and also a deadlifting area, which is great. There are a lot of machines and it is pretty crowded on the weekend, but nothing TOO crazy. Locker rooms are alright.

I've been a member at this gym for almost 8 years. I've also had memberships at nearby gyms and I've kept this membership based on the following:
1) cleanliness
2) parking availability
3) variety of group classes
4) reasonable membership fees
5) good childcare.
6) I've never had to wait for a machine.

October 20, 2017 15:33

This Gold's is far superior to the one on Ben White. The entire gym seems clean, organized, and well-constructed. The locker rooms are in great shape, and the shower facilities are clean, well-lit, and always functional. There's even a smoothie bar at the check-in desk. All-around, this location is a great place to work out. Only down side would be that it can be busy at times, but there's a good reason for that.

October 20, 2017 15:33

For the surrounding area of multiple Golds gyms, I find this one the best. Many machines available and a large area of free weights.
Only issue I have is that the staff will not remove the locks of people who have "camped" their lock on a locker.
Locker numbers 1 & 2 have had the same locks on them for 8 months so far.

I have been a member of Gold's Gym, attending this location, for 7 years. I always have paid a year at a time and although the gym itself isn't that great, I (like others have mentioned) love the group classes. I have really enjoyed Kelly, Megan and Leslie. However, in February of 2016, I had my 4th baby. I didn't even attempt to come back until May of 2016 and after that point, my attendance was sporadic. In the fall, I stopped going altogether because they dropped the only morning class I could attend (due to my baby's nap schedule). In January of 2017, I started attending sporadically once again, but there were entire months when I didn't come.

The trouble is that in this time when my attendance was non-existent to sporadic, they were enrolling member children. Anyone who didn't enroll their kids (or new members) would have to pay a fee of $12/child per month! Unfortunately, I missed the enrollment period. They claim that Gold's corporate emailed all members to let them know of the change, however, I did not receive any such email. When I was told I would have to start paying the fee, I tried to explain my situation to the GM. I don't know if he was sympathetic or not, but he said he couldn't help me. He claims that he filed a request for an exemption for me with Gold's corporate and was rejected. I also emailed and messaged (on FB) Gold's Gym and was met with the same response. So even though I have been a member in good standing for 7 years and was a member during the enrollment time, they were unwilling to extend a little grace for me and allow me to be grandfathered in along with other members. I had simply been absent and had missed the opportunity to enroll! Had I known that I needed to enroll my kids or face a stiff fine, I would've done it in a heartbeat.

I've been appalled with Gold's customer service at all levels of this process. From the people at the front desk who never told me that I needed to register my kids, to the GM (Nick) and his indifference, to the lack of understanding in their non-existent customer care department.... Gold's does not care about taking care of its members. It's clear to me that they are more interested in their bottom line, and when you can bring in new members who have to pay $12/per child per month, I understand why! After fighting this in every avenue available to me, I have finally conceded and joined the YMCA. Their monthly fee for me an my kids is less than what Gold's wanted me to pay and the facility is MUCH nicer. I would've stayed a loyal Gold's member for 7 more years, but it's clear that customer care is at the bottom of their priorities. Shame.

I went in on August 1st to tell them I needed to cancel my account because of personal funding constraints I will be faced with going back to school. The staff member who was helping me suggested that instead of canceling the account that they could freeze it for the duration I'm at school and I wouldn't have to pay. I was also told the freeze paperwork takes 24 to 48 hours to go into effect. It is now Aug 7th and I woke up today to see a regular charge on my account. Not only that but when I called to try and solve this issue I was further informed that freezing your account actually still requires you to pay 15 dollars monthly.

If you go here and you ever need to alter the status in your account make sure you get copies of everything that you sign and question them nonstop about how what you're doing is going to cost you.
