It is currently closed, but we use it for PSLs dodgeball league until the lease is up.

This gym is no longer in business. However, Google fails to accept edits to update this listing.

Been here since Feb '16. Great workout equipment, and trainers for all walks of life.

UPDATE: As of last week (1st week of FEB 2018), 12th Street Gym will be closed, for good. I received the update from a good friend of mine who had a membership, for life, and he was more suprised than all of us. No idea what they plan to build, or even do with the building, but 12th Street Gym is no more.

Pretty dingy, pool is permanently closed, sauna is hit and miss. Staff is great though! Rumor has it they are closing soon so be wary

as of 01/01/2018 the owner is closing the gym any day! DO NOT JOIN! He already sold the building and is looking for another gym to take over the memberships. This could be anywhere within 5 miles. STAY AWAY!!!!

Even if he buys some time from the new building owner it is just a matter of time. If his plans were to keep the gym open he would have made arrangements before selling the building.

Many of the trainers and instructors are already are leaving.

The place is a dump! He stopped maintaining it a year ago knowing he was closing it.

DO NOT GO TO THIS TERRIBLE GYM.
(1) Personal trainers bother you during your workouts trying to get you to sign up for personal training sessions. Relentless.
(2) Girlfriend who was also a member has horrible toxic mold response when she spends more than 15 minutes in this place. It most likely has serious mold issues. Makes sense because the place is nasty, cramped, and sweaty and the A/C isn't on enough to handle the load. Nothing is cleaned well enough. Plan to get a few skin rashes and/or ringworm within a few workouts, not to mention the breathing problems from the mold. Disgusting.
(3) Management is a bunch of liars. I signed up for a year membership last October simply for use of the salt water pool due to my bad skin. No other salt water pools in the area. Go figure, they shut down the pool less than a month later. I was pissed and tried to get my money back for the 11+ months left of my membership. They refused, but offered me free use of the remaining gym space without it counting against my membership until the pool reopened. It was documented. I then complained roughly every month for a whole year because nobody would give me any updates on the pool and it's reopening date kept slipping. Yeah, a whole year later and it's still not reopened! But now my lease is ending and so I want out of the membership. I tried to reason with management but they refuse to reimburse me for anything and are now saying that my membership has expired since I kept using the gym while the pool was closed. I said, yeah, that was only because of the courtesy that you extended to me since you wouldn't let me cancel my membership and I couldn't use any alternative pool back when you shut the pool down a year ago! They said that my "arrangement" never existed. I was berated and hung up on by two of their managers. So much for the customer always being right. So much for my veteran status meaning nothing to them. It's all about the money. F this place.

I moved to S. 12th Street last year and was searching for a gym nearby. I mostly use free weights and prefer to work out alone. Although I was a little skeptical of the gym's layout, I gave it a shot as it was affordable and close by. I had nothing but good experiences at this gym. There's an upper level that is less crowded during peak times, though I usually tried to work out in the morning or late evenings. The hours were convenient and the staff is friendly. No pressure to utilize personal training. Like all gyms (imo), there could be more weights. But there were a few weight areas and this gym is not over-saturated with treadmills and useless machines. I'd recommend it to anyone living in the area.

I loved going here. Only canceled because I am moving to another part of the city. The manager Jim and the employees are very friendly and nice. Some of the equipment is dated but that did not bother me and never got in the way of my workout. Come to think of it, the equipment always worked and never had the "being repaired" sign which is not what I can say for more updated gyms I've been to (cough cough -la fitness). I originally thought I would not like the sectioned layout but I ended up loving it. Really gonna miss this gym!

Think prison gym. I never take the time to review online. But this gym has become poorly maintained, I can only assume they are closing or selling. The current owner took over a few years back and the hope was things would get better.

Imagine if your Grandmother who survived the Great Depression and never spent a penny without a coupon was in charge of a gym. This would be it. The bathroom is gross and has had "new restrooms coming" signs for over a year. They do not consider the rust on the Spinning bikes a maintenance issue. They post signs "new xxxx coming" only when something collapses or breaks beyond repair. Example: Studio 1 where they hold fitness classes, the ceiling collapsed. Signs go up "New Studio 1 coming", not really. The renovations that were done are a joke.

I go here because I live right up the street. But it has finally gotten so bad that after over 10 years I will not renew. Most of my friends have moved on over the last few years.

The owner should be truly embarrassed. The place is nasty, calling it poorly maintained is an understatement. This has become the equivalent of a rec center in a low income area that relies on donated equipment. There is nothing wrong with a rec center in a low income area that relies on donated equipment, but here we pay.

Did I say the bathrooms are super nasty. They never replace equipment. The place is a dump!

Decent gym, friendly people, up to date equipment, excellent personal trainers. The new pool is great. The layout is difficult though - spread over many floors/levels with stairs being the ONLY way to access the pool or any of workout areas or equipment. If you are going to a gym for therapy or have any serious physical difficulties this is NOT the place to check out.
