First, some background. I am 53 years old. I'm a lifetime martial artist. I'm a nidan in aikido and a former instructor and dojocho. I'm in good shape, but I'm also pretty beat up. I've trained at a great many schools as I progressed through life and in my business travel. With kids now in college, I'm now resuming my fun and have been training at S&G for just over a year.
So, on to the review. S&G is a clean, safe, and productive place to train with great instruction. I hate to even mention it, but it is also cost effective.
The mat is disinfected daily; you aren't going to get staff there.
There aren't any juicers there that are going to rip your arm off intentionally. They are not tolerated. There is a great mix of new folks, mid-level players, and high-level players. There are many classes offered, several per day during the week and open mats available twice per week.
There is several instructors, all very good players. So, you get different perspectives which is often helpful. Professor Stutzman is, well, a magician. Just due to my schedule, I most often attend Coach Gray's classes. His instruction is clear, concise, and focused on useful, foundational basics...just what I need.
The cost is discounted the longer that you sign up for. It is, in my mind, super reasonable for the value provided.
In summary, of you are interested in studying grappling in Dayton, S&G is the first choice.
Note: S&G also offers kids, judo, and Muy Thai classes. I haven't attended any of these and, so, do not offer an opinion. But, birds of a feather flock together...
