Was forced into this gym when Retro fitness was closed and Fitness connection bought my membership (no say in the fact I did not want to use this gym). As such I frequent this location most often, I'll go into detail but these photos display the male locker room and speak for themselves. 4 or so months of sections closed off, filthy floors and air quality, the whole 9 yards. As for the rest of the facility,it's at least... large enough? Would be tolerable if the place did not seem to be held together with duct tape. Nearly weekly the Leg extension, Leg press, varying adjustable dumbbell bench seats, and machine fly machines are broken with missing bolts. Leg extension handle bolt/washer to lock the safety can be unscrewed by hand! Good luck using any cable machine and finding them with matching length D ring/carabiners (who doesn't love uneven flys). At least the turf is somewhat clean! Thanks for coming to my Ted-Talk

First Bad Review in my life: Firstable this guy Cody call me to tell me because one payment decline my account go to collection, I check my bank account and see that the money was taken.

After telling 20 times the payment went through he checked the computer and checked it was an old transaction.

I had a 6-month contract for a trainer, I quit after 5 months because they changed my trainer 2 times because it looks like they weren't making money.

So I decided after the 5 months no more but I was sure about paying the contract.

Then I receive a message from this Cody telling me if I want to continue the training for $180 and I said, that I'm not interested to have more training, Thanks

Then he left me on air telling me to make sure my account is updated and then I said what he means with that, leave me on air again.

SO what he did never tell me if I don't cancel my account I will be charged $200 because he makes a commission for every payment members do

So I call him very angry and he told me another lie, that I have to be in person to cancel my contract, I told him, I was out of the state but it was I lie, he just want to make me wait more time so the gym charges me again.

When I went to the gym to cancel the membership everybody the guy at the front desk told me I can't cancel in person, I have to go online and put my member id and cancel. And I was angrier.

Now they send messages all the time trying to collect $400 lying to the customer just to make money on commisions.

Today they took $40 dollar from my account without permission I had to cancel my card because they have the security number.

I have Cody in a recorded line the last time we talk by phone with his concern... Now I'm waiting for fitness connection to bring to the collection and damage my credit to take them to court.

Be careful with Gym they don't care of member when talking about money.
and be aware if you make a contract to not even believe of employees, they make money from commissions and most of them don't make good money.

so. I joined fitness connection over a year ago and loved it. I brought friends, I recommend people and because I was loving it lost a good amount of weight. I went to crossfit mid December and froze my account in march or freaking they said I did. Today I got billed for all the months that my account was supposed to be frozen. When I called there was "nothing" that could be done because I couldn't track the email they sent me in march. Then he informs me that it doesn't matter how much you use the gym but you still get billed. And I informed him that I understood that but my account was FOZEN so I wasn't going AT ALL. So now, I'm out over 170 dollars and I have to pay for the last month to cancel. They also told me to call corporate but didn't tell me they weren't open today. Management here is pitiful. Never in my life have I had to deal with this.

If they can't keep up with both clubs and what members are doing then you need to get something together. I will never recommend fitness connection to anyone, I will post this story on my online fitness form, and all my friends are not also giving up their memberships and if you're reading this I suggest you read all the details before you join.

So, Brent--please think about honest and consistent customers before you tell your staff that there isn't anything you can do.

Fitness Connection - NH used to be a really great gym maybe a year or two ago... Now it seems to has gone down hill.. At least three of the showers in the mens locker room had caution tape, which I'm sure isn't very inviting to people who are guests in the hotel... The other day, the hot tub had small pieces of trash floating (I'm guessing from someone who didn't shower off before getting in).... The locker room is usually not very clean and doesn't that great of a smell. There is a good selection of equipment upstairs, however it's usually best to go earlier in the day or at night when it's not crowded. I know it's $9.99 a month, but with all the members you have, you should be making a ton of money, but I guess you get what you pay for and whoever is managing this gym is definitely treating it as such.

Love this gym! Friendly staff. Water aerobics is a great and fun work out. Awesome instructor!

Use to be a member, USE to be a great value, and USE to love all their fitness classes like yoga, however, they do not keep the studios cleaned and they cut so many classes. I talked to their managers and got no where so I canceled membership. Typical for profit gym, not interested in customers staying customers for the long term!

I recently switched to this gym after being a long time (10yr) member of PF. I switched only because of the childcare options Fitness Connection offers (hard to find time to work out with two little ones). The classes and pool might be nice too, but have not yet tried. So far my biggest complaint is cleanliness. This goes for both locations I have tried- Six Forks & North Hills. I guess I am used to PF where at least 1 employee is always cleaning and everything looks nice. So far I have not seen 1 person cleaning (though there is always plenty of staff sitting around not doing much) and the equipment reflects that. Many of the weight machines have dust caked on them and in the moving parts. You can see years of dusts on the TVs and other electrical. The cardio machines also show signs of sweat that was never cleaned off.

The lack of cleaning stations for members is also disturbing. I have to search for them between sets. And, I have yet to see members clean the machines after use (Gross!). So now instead of cleaning after use I clean before use.

I am hopeful that as a new member this changes, so I have given a preliminary 3 stars.

This used to be the premier gym in North Raleigh. But over the last few years it is really went downhill. The gym is usually pretty crowded now that they offer $10 monthly dues. The Major Payne point is the number of benches that they have is very limited.

June 15, 2018 14:10

I don't have a lot of experience with different types of public gyms but I was invited here as a guest and I was very happy with everything offered. I didn't find myself waiting to use equipment which was very nice!

May 23, 2018 16:29

Fitness Connection offers a really good value. Most the staff are engaging and helpful. But they recent stopped providing cloth towels to members. I've noticed many members not wiping down the equipment since they started doing this. I have my own towel but most people don't. This decision confuses me. 1 star until they fix this easy to fix problem.

Pros: near work if you work in North Hills or live. Decent Gym. Has a pool and area for kids. staff seems pleasant for the most part.

Cons: Parking is horrible if you want to park close but that is how the NH is. They don't notify you of maintenance stuff. Like the showers are broken but you don't send an email so people come from work and can't do their workout. Always issues with the sauna. Crammed and jam packed. They tried to squeeze a lot in a little space.
The women's only area is run down.
Classes are always jam packed. Also they should offer Barre like some other locations.

My wife and I have been loyal members of Fitness Connection North Hills for several years. Not once have we had one missed annual or monthly payment. We joined a tennis club and no longer needed the services of Fitness Connection. I Called to teminate membership. Was told had to do online. Completed process and was told by local staff member that cancellation was processed and account balance was zero. Weeks later, I started getting texts stating I needed to call member services about account. So I called and on SEVERAL occasions I was told that the text would stop and that my closing needed to cycle. Text contiued so I called again. Called Supervisor directly and after 2 days I received a call back. She stated I owed a balance for the two months after I cancelled membership and a service fee for late payment. She also stated that I would be reported to collections if I did not get resolved. Said she had refunding capabilities but would not do it for someone closing there accounts. Customer service was beyond poor and I felt totally taken advantage of. Beware!!!! This is not a place you want to do business with!!

Nice area for a gym but the gym its self is low rent.

Its a membership factory, the staff is there to sign you up and sell supplements. You wont see them enforcing rules, re-racking weights or walking the floor.

The dumbbells are everywhere and when I brought it up to staff they said they do re-rack them and theres no way. The location has a lot of potential but I dont see them getting it together anytime soon.

Happy Easter,

I was in the North Hills location and was thrown into a situation that was handled piss poor to say the least.

I was sitting in the sauna today when an African American male kept popping in randomly and sprawling out. No issue with that but he kept putting his sweaty foot with in centimeters of me. After the third time he popped in his foot actually touched my body and I asked him " Could you move your foot, you're invading my personal space." I think anyone would agree that they don't want some random person sweaty foot touching their body.

After my ask, he says sure no problem and nothing else was said after that. He begins to take phone calls inside the sauna and mention his cousin is an assistant manager here, also didn't think anything of it. He walks out and African American male who works at the fitness connection walks into the sauna in full uniform and stares me down for a second and walked out. Thought it was a little weird but again didn't think nothing of it. Another five minutes go by, this time the African American employee (never caught his name) and a manager Noah ask me to walk out of the sauna because of an incident that happen. Apparently the gentlemen told the two staff members I said "move your BLACK foot." Noah said I needed to sit down and have them put something on my file because of this.

two issues with this
- I never said anything race related, just asked the man to not touch me with his sweaty foot
- He is assuming that I am lying and literally did zero due diligence to justify his claim. Follow up with the other gentleman in the sauna? NO!

I refused to sit down and have a lie put on my file because I have NEVER in my life made a racist comment to any one. As I continued to discuss how crazy this is, the African American employee verbal threaten meet in front of Noah to point where I felt he was going to try and fight me. As I was walking out, I mentioned to Noah that gentleman said he had a cousin who worked their on the phone in the sauna, and asked if that was him? Again, Noah claims I am being racist because they are both black and that is the only reason I am making the assumption. Little did he know the gentleman stated that on the phone while sitting in the sauna his cousin works here. As you know, the sauna is small so if you are having a conversation, everyone can hear. HEY NOAH, DID YOU ASK YOUR EMPLOYEE IF THEY WERE RELATED? HOW WOULD I RANDOMLY COME UP WITH THAT? DO YOU THINK I JUST MADE THE WHOLE PHONE CALL IN THE SAUNA UP? Noah said I am not allowed back in the gym because I wouldn't allow him to put this claim on my record. Noah, I give zero about coming back to this gym.

I demand follow up from this. This was handled piss poor to the point where I could SUE your business for allowing this behavior to occur. I understand you have younger employees who work in your gym, but they need to be properly trained on handling this situations better. Believe it or not, people LIE all the time and use the racist card to get what they want.

The staff at this location will mislead you and make false promises just to get you to sign a personal training contract. If you are looking for a solid trainer/coach DON'T SIGN UP HERE!
I'm very annoyed and frustrated!

This place is a lying ass company. I was told last month (February) by a man there that I would have to wait until they charge me for the services of February before my membership would automatically stop. I get up today a whole month later and see i AGAIN was charged. I called and was told by the OM Ashely that basically I was a liar and no one in her Staff would say that and that I am to go online to cancel and that she was not giving me my refund. Then she gave me a "corporate" number that was a damn voicemail. I'm too pissed.

March 3, 2018 17:20

Noah is a very friendly and helpful guy. He explained everything to me and gave me a good gym tour. Just started my membership today. Thank you

They must think their members are made of money. A $20 monthly membership turned into $80 this month. Being in school these unexpected fees get annoying. When calling to ask I get hit with nothing we can do, anything else? Back when I went regularly I had a personal trainer, I moved voiding my contract. When I went through the process the lazy staff member reported everything was okay, got a call last week from a bill collecter saying I owe over $1000 now. THANKS FOR NOTHING BUT STRESS.
When I called to get help the store told me there was nothing they could do to help because it was a cooperate rule. Saying I needed to pay off a $800 balance. Once I told them I was ensured the contract was cancelled and that balance should've never even accumulated the associate almost started yelling telling me I was wrong and there was no way that was true. And there's NO help other then paying HALF ($450 ish). I informed him I didn't have that money being a student. He asked if I had a credit card to put it in, like wtf? Even if I did I wouldn't. Why do I need to pay so much for services I never used or intended on after moving far away. When I called cooperate they said there was nothing they could do and to call the store. WHO CAN HELP!? Horrible customer service.

Update 3 MONTHS LATER still no help. Not even the person who replies to these comments with respond to mine. HORRIBLE.

January 24, 2018 18:23

This is by far one of dirtiest gyms I have ever worked out I continue to come here because the price is fair. The locker rooms are always dirty and smell so bad the equipment is dirty and not maintained ( always breaking down ) there's always this water fountain by the back room that is continuously out of order. There have been three separate times that I have showed up here on a saturday morning at 7 am and there was nobody to open up the gym on time which is ridiculous. Spoke to management about it and all I got was an apology and that was it! Still debating on whether or not I should cancel my membership.

January 17, 2018 02:12

Great no-nonsense gym. Just what you need if you just want to go to a gym, crush a workout, and repeat every day.

January 8, 2018 12:40

Fitness Connection was good when I first joined but now it has gone way down hill... The steam room is down every other week for multiple days, the hot tub has been broken for over a month now and has dirt piling at the bottom, nasty sight to see... They no longer offer hand towels, and are now selling blue branded ones for $3... I guess people truly are getting what they pay for now. Not sure of the last time they've cleaned out the sauna or steam room... I hope you guys improve because it's a nice gym otherwise.

November 25, 2017 11:02

The gym is no frills, I get that and am fine with it but safety is a concern.... Just finished a Sat morning 10am workout there. Fire alarm went off for 30 minutes.MY EARS ARE STILL RINGING!!!! No staff announcement, nothing over the intercom nothing. Said it is the PARKER? security company's fault when I asked. But the reaction or lack thereof is solely on Fitness Connection. If it was a real fire-- not good. If I suffer any hearing damage coming out of this ...you'll hear from me for sure.

October 24, 2017 15:17

Go in with the right expectations. This is a low monthly fee with no perks included type gym. The facility has a separate women's only area and child care service. If you're looking for a high-touch experience, this isn't it, but if you need access to a bunch of equipment and a pool to stay fit, this place meets the requirements at a modest monthly price. The general vibe is that you know what you're doing when you come in- you will have to ask for help if you need it, and they will try to sell personal training. Peak hours are super busy, off peak hours are mostly empty.

October 24, 2017 15:17

great gym have been a member for a while now. the only problem i have is with the daycare lady (the elder one) she was very disrespectful in the way she talked to my wife and younger sister about the rules in the pool of my son not being allowed okay i get it you have rules but its the way you talk to people yelling is not one of them. and her excuse was(im from boston thats how i talk)really!? ever since then shes been harrasing my wife just checking what she does and doesnt with our son at the gym. im really upset mostly bc shes in charge of my son when im working out if she yells at a grown up what can i expect of my child when hes under her care. gym itself is great but people like that can ruin the image

October 24, 2017 15:17

This seems like the most run down of the Fitness Connections in the area. The men's locker room is never clean. The equipment has had some recent upgrades but the staff are not all that helpful if you're not paying extra for trainers.

October 24, 2017 15:17

Suchhh a nice gym with the friendliest staff. I've been to a lot of fitness connections but this one is by far the nicest. Any issues you have they are ready to resolve! I definitely recommend signing up here especially because it is so affordable for what it is.

October 24, 2017 15:17

I joined last week with Will and was able to get a friend and spouse to join as well. What I like is that they have classes in both the morning and evening hours, a kids room, indoor pool with sauna and hot tub, and love the movie room. The staff is always nice and willing to help. Todd was able to discuss their fitness coaches (not in my budget right now but helpful). The price is perfect as well. It starts at $9.99 and goes from there. My wife has a different one than I do due to the kids. Brent is very responsive in emails too. Give them a try. You can try for free and they walk you through the gym to discuss the different sections. Very thorough in the walk-through. Much better than the purple place for the money.
