Awesome climbing walls. Little kids' heaven. Endless fun and exercise. Great yoga classes.

Great gym, good people and decent prices. Green armband if you are looking for people to climb with is such a great idea! Lots of lead climbing and huge walls as well as bouldering and plenty of kids areas.

I really like this wall. The staff is great and the top roping is really great routes that are routinely updated.

They do have a couple of issues though. Parking is frequently terrible, especially on weeknights. There isn't much they can do about parking, although i wish they would have figured out how to expand it more when they built the expansion.

The biggest thing for me is the air quality though. I have very mild asthma, and literally the only place I've ever had an asthma attack in the past decade has been at this location (North Raleigh and Durham locations haven't). I have had multiple times that i have had issues breathing at this gym, including last night when I could literally taste the "chalk" in the air. I have noticed that it is worst when the outside weather is between 50 and 75 degrees.

If you have asthma, go to a different location. The air is much better at the other locations.

Pros:
Routes, equipment, 50 ft walls, staff

Cons:
Parking, Air Quality

I've rock climbed in a few places in the US, Raleigh, San Jose, Los Angeles, San Diego, and I think this is one of the best gyms. The staff is friendly and definitely give off that NC vibe, very chill. The people who climb are also very open and friendly (and not weird lol), and it's easy to have fun and be social here. Members get guest passes (1 a month or more on special months), which makes the experience better if you can get friends to climb without a membership.

Very nice and unique experience. Fun way to get a decent workout. A bit pricey, but oftentimes they offer discounts and special offers, in which case it can be a good value. Will visit again!

Fantastic place to rock climb. Good for serious climbers and casual people wanting a day of fun with the kids. Very friendly staff. Great routes with a lot of diversity. 55' top rope and lead walls as well as full bouldering with padded floor (no movable pads).

I love Triangle Rock Club and all of their very nice staff members. The climbing routes are always fun and challenging. I love going there with my friends and always try to take new people! I highly recommend this location and can't wait for the one in Durham to open up!!!

My kids love coming here for summer camp. The teachers are very friendly and supportive. I love that summer camp goes up to 7 hours a day so that you can actually get some work done while they learn how to climb. And the fact that your kids can be getting exercise INSIDE a nice air conditioned building instead of baking in the sun all day at other summer camps is a huge plus for us.

Good facility and great staff! Will say that if you're coming here to exclusively boulder then don't get your hopes too high. Good technical routes, but dirty holds that feel like wet moss. The big juicy slabs are reserved for the rope using enthusiast.

Not only was it easy to set it up so I could bring a group of campers with me, when we were there, the customer service was real and very helpful. I didn't feel like a number, but I was genuinely helped to the best of their abilities. We were treated as people. The two workers who came with me and my campers helped support us and encourage us all the way through. We all had a great time, and I definitely want to bring my next group next summer.

Had a great time climbing with my 6-year-old son! Staff was very helpful and it wasn't too busy even with camps in session. Lots of different routes to try!

Outstanding summer programs for kids; our teenager did the Expedition program (climbing, bouldering, kayaking, Pilot Man trip) and had a wonderful time. Got belay certified and increased her confidence.

The facilities have greatly improved since they first opened up almost 10 years ago. Its very enjoyable to climb, and its great they have other work out equipment as well (weights, treadmill, etc)

May 30, 2018 09:42

Great locations with plenty of options for climbing and bouldering. The autobelays are also a great resource for the more casual climber or someone who hasn't had a chance to get belay certified or isn't comfortable belaying.
Careful about when you go because the place is super popular. During peak hours it can be difficult to get all of your money's worth out of a visit. But otherwise, it's the best climbing gym I've ever been to!

The TRC is great! Their hours are accommodated all types of careers like mine as a nurse. My hours are crazy and being able to come here to use the gym and/or climb before or after work is so beneficial to my well being. They offer so many activities to get to know other people and to take better care of yourself! I love being a member!

May 29, 2018 16:53

Great climbing gym! Lots of bouldering and route climbing available. Workout areas are fairly small in comparison but still have everything you need for a good workout.

Great facility. Great staff. Great atmosphere. I love climbing and taking classes here.

April 27, 2018 16:25

I really like TRC. They hire nice people, they are friendly and helpful. I enjoy the exercise. I'd like to see more auto belays for sure and I like to see better parking at the Morrisville location. I'd like to see them do away with the $75 sign up fee (hate hate hate those) and I'd like to see them be more flexible with their May 19 special - sign up for one year but only on one day (makes no sense to me) and the savings is not really that great. But I'll keep going back - great activity, nice people. I'm glad they are here.

It's hard to write a critical review since this is the only real gym option in the area, but here are my honest thoughts after 3 years of membership:

1) The route setting cycle needs to be dramatically shortened. There are still numerous routes in the lead area that were set back in 2017 (As of 3/15/18). I love to climb but often find myself leaving the gym out of boredom rather than exhaustion. It's hard to stay motivated and train if you've done the same routes over and over again.
2) The gym needs to figure out an effective system for pairing up solo climbers who are looking for belay partners. They have a wrist-band system but I have yet to see it actually work. I know that there is a meetup group but I think an informal system for regular walk-ins should be implemented.
3) The music is terrible. Truly terrible. They have a rock-bot app that allows members to request songs, but in practice it turns into a painful mishmash of Skrillex, Abba, Coldplay, Tiesto, and then Journey. No joke, that was the lineup one night. Go ahead and play Abba all night long, but please just give us a theme of some kind.
4) There are often children running around unsupervised, sometimes dangerously so. I've seen multiple kids nearly get crushed while running under people who were bouldering above them. I understand that this facility has multiple user groups, but please do a better job of managing this during peak week-day hours.
5) Gym management needs to better manage their facility scheduling, particularly with regards to the youth climbing team. I'm a huge fan of youth climbing teams and I'm very impressed with the level of coaching this team gets. But scheduling their practice/training sessions during the peak 5-8pm weekday hours should be looked at. The gym is already packed during this time, and having a group of 10-20 team members taking over a wall during that time seems sub-optimal. If no other feasible time window exists, perhaps "reserve" a few routes for team practice during that time and notify members ahead of time, similar to how a pool has reserved lanes for swim team practice. Right now the entire scene on a weekday evening is quite chaotic and unpleasant to be around.

I hope this gym can reduce the chaotic vibe that currently exists on weekday evenings. I'm a fan of the route setting (aside from the frequency) and I think this gym has a lot of potential.

Most of the gyms I've been to have an easy system where the front desk staff makes an announcement "Is anyone out there looking for a belay partner?", and it's very effective. Not only is it easy to implement, but it's a great way for members to meet new partners. I've asked the front desk staff it this would be possible but the response was "we don't do that here". I know that there is a meetup group but I think an informal system for regular walk-ins should be implemented.

I would give them 0 stars if I could. A friend of mine worked there and was treated so poorly I cannot believe it. It seems to me a lot of the issues stemmed from her reading disorder that they were not attending to and they fired her for it. I now view this establishment as having an extreme lack of character. Unfortunate.

Staff is super friendly and facility is nice. Parking can be tough at peak hours so carpool if you can.

TRC Morrisville is the founding TRC location. It has 24' rope walls and a stand alone 14' climbing boulder on its classic side. The boulder which is shaped like a donut has multiple steep, slab, and vertical terrain options for different climb levels. In the classic side as well there are multiple auto belays so you can top rope without a partjer.
Then in the expansion there are top rope & lead climbing walls up to 55' tall and an additional boulder cave. There is a fitness section with weights, campus boards, hang boards, a systems board, pet board, and much more. Fitness, climbing, and yoga classes are offered regularly as well. Great place to meet awesome people and have fun exercising.

Great routes and friendly staff, wish they would get rid of the clip in system and bring back the figure 8. The figure makes me feel much safer!

October 25, 2017 11:04

Seems like a nice place. However the staff was not helpful at all for first time climbers. They stated they were too busy to show how to use the facility or equipment because they were too busy with camps. After spending money on harmesses they were unwilling to show how to use them until we asked for a refund.

October 25, 2017 11:04

Great bouldering, top roping, and lead climbing areas. Cheap but high quality rental gear and lots of gear for sale. Definitely an amazing climbing gym.

October 25, 2017 11:04

If you know someone who is a member and it's your first time going it's free. I enjoyed all the different walls they had. I only bouldered and had a great time. Everyone was respectful of each other's space. Good environment

October 25, 2017 11:04

I read online that belay/lead tests are done anytime. Once I arrived, I was told to wait an hour to take a lead test, then another 15 minutes, and another 15 minutes... Until I had waited two hours to take the test. Such a waste of time if you are mostly interested in lead climbing.

That said, the staff was friendly. The price was only okay ($19 for a day pass). The holds were a bit old. Overall, the people were nice, but this is far from a "state-of-the-art" facility.

October 25, 2017 11:04

I took my 4 year old on a rainy Saturday and ended coming back and joining. Call ahead if you are taking kids because they might have a birthday party that ropes off most of the easy auto-belay runs. Nice staff and cool place to workout.
