Great place to work out! Always clean, and they offer amazing clases.
The place can definitely use some improvement. It does provide the BASICS.
Nice gym. Clean and everything is sanitized. Very professional and helpful staff.
I try to go as often as possible. The renovation was definitely a good thing.. My complaints are the locker rooms benches are uncomfortable. Dirt & mold on the ceiling vents. Showers could use alot of CLOROX to kill any fungus growing. Cleaner spends more time on the phone, then anything else. Sure would be good if the Administrator got up from the desk & walked around. Oh yeah...What Einstein thought toilets in an open locker room was a good idea?? Who the hell ok that. Complaints? .not to the front desk..they are clueless. Dont get me wrong it's not a bad place. Some employees are nice, Unfortunately I don't know there names. Members are nice & respectful.
So, Dont hold your breath if your looking for resolutions to your complaints. Unless of course your in the locker room then you may need to hold your breathe.
The positivity that the staff brings hides all the negativity that happens behind closed doors. Five stars to the counselors that bring all the good in the kids. Not even half a star to the directors and executives who walk all over them.
Best place to get a workout and meet new people. Better than a normal gym. Everyone there is nice and friendly. You have lots of ways to get in shape there. Lots of people to motivate you. Amazing coaches/instructor's. Signing up here is probably the best thing i did in my life.
This place is a membersip-based Y. Everything cost, except for the free stuff, like when The Public Mobile Unit performs theater productions of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM by William Shakespear, directed by Jenny Koons.
The Y has a (working) swimming pool, an older style gym with two basketball hoops that make up one basketball court. There may be some temperature-control issues (at least in the gym area).
Get as much information ahead of time... no one really answers the phones, which may be problematic during times when the venue hosts special events.
The Y is well funded and continues to offer more programs for the East New York community.
The only ymca I've been to where the counselors and receptionists seem to be cranky everyday. My child liked the summer camp. However, receptionists gave poor info and acted as if i was upsetting them everytime they saw me....if looks could kill, smh. Need better trained receptionists, who actually want to work there. I'm spending my money, should at least get a smile and an apology when they make poor mistakes. Maybe when gentrification fully hits the area, staff will their tudes.

It took ages for the employees to attend me.
I grew up near this YMCA in the 1950's and 60"s. I spent so much of my time there swimming, bowling, shooting pool, the gym and taking karate courses. The last time I walked in must have been 53 years ago. I'm happy to see it's still there and has been so much improved. Outside looks the same except for the awning, inside looks so much different. The Y was an important part of my upbringing, thanks for all you have done for me and my friends. Mike
I liked it at first... but only keeping my son there for swimming. Great staff with the exception of the lady in child care who has no manners and does not know how to speak to people. I'm sorry but cancelling my membership as of tomorrow. I pay to be in a family oriented place and I get discriminated and spoken to like if I'm a piece of trash. Thank you but no thank you. I'm sorry for Pamela the supervisor that she has to deal with ignorant staff but you just lost a customer and everyone else that I have reffered.
