Came here with a friend a couple times and it's an all together good gym. Are there things that could be improved upon sure, but most things can be improved upon. It's a solid gym, the equipment seemed clean and up-to-date. There's a rock climbing wall and a small boxing room. As a rockclimber the wall is hard to use since you needed to have one of them belay you, but nevertheless a nice addition. It's a solid gym if you're living in the neighborhood.

A solid neighborhood gym. Good selection of equipment, a rock climbing wall and a sauna+steam room (if you know how to work them, :)) all make it a good deal, if you join at the right time of the year (meaning, "not Summer")...

Friendly staff. Always clean. Plenty of equipment and space. Signed up in February and happy I did.

The Rock is one of the best GYM's I've ever been. Awesome stuff, very clean, has sauna and steam room. Heavy weights and lots of cardio machines, recently brand new stair masters! Best gym in Astoria, Queens. Sign up now!!!

Great gym. Love the machines!! Definitely worth the visit. Tried it out for the first time and I love the different machines they have available to customers. If you want a gym that doesn't get crowded at any given time and is open 24 hours then this is the gym for you. Also a lot of healthy places to eat in the neighborhood. Great location, great people and awesome gym. Check out the rock climbing area. Pretty cool.

I went the the gym for almost 3 years until i started being over charged on my account. When I requested to have my account refunded the appropriate amount Dora (the manager) refused. I had to dispute the amount with my credit card company and then they sent my account which was already closed to collections. I highly recommend AVOIDING this gym at any cost possible. After talking to people at my new gym apparently this is a normal business practice at the The Rock as multiple other people mentioned being over charged as well. If you can't have a functioning business without ripping off loyal customers, you should just close your doors! Wish I could give the place zero stars!!

I try to go every day byt is impossible!! I love the clases over there.

I used to be a member here. It's a nice gym and it's was the only option in my neighborhood. It's not a chain and price wise a little high.
My only issue was in the summer it was too hot. This is because it has a very hight ceiling, maybe 50 feet? If not more. and impossible to cool the place down. The good news is that they will be moving to a new building across the street which should solve that.
Never had issues with the staff. Always clean and the machines worked.
I also took one star off because I had a personal trainer Tony. He was great at first but then started slacking off. I'm not paying a trainer to be on top of them.

Large gym with daycare. Management however does not cater to its members, not very helpful, often rude. They seem to care more about getting new members than keeping the ones they have.

Awesome place. Lots of space to workout. Love the boxing room

thats a big scum gym and i wish i saw the previous comments of other customers before joining ... any one who like Joining that gym has to know that if you wish any time to cancel your membership you going to have to pay onother month extra even if you are not going to the gym any more!i think is better to look for better option, lets say the nysc by the 30av and Steinway is much better gym very friendly stuff its a huge gym very clean and the price its around 20 $monthly and of course you don't have to pay for an extra month if you wish to cancel !while reading other comments i realize that many people have the same issue with that gym and that they try to scum every one who decide to cancel.on the other hand nycs if you don't whant a go any more you just give a notice some days before and they simply cancel your membership!

Never had a good experience at the Rock. Very basic facilities. Paid for a persoal training package and the personal trainer told me it was fine to smoke cigarettes and drink as long as you work out to balance, he was also constantly on his phone or talking to other people at the gym during our sessions. After my 1 year membership ended they continued to charge me for each month, even after my credit card was canceled.

Open 24hrs on weekdays and is always clean. Took a few yoga classes with a great trainer!

It's a scam... I have a very bad experience with them. When I moved from the area I wanted to cancel the contract because my new place is far from the rock and because in the same time I was sick and my doctor tell me that I have to stop going to gym، so i have 2 reason to cancel the contract. But they didn't accept it and they charged me $700 for 3 months ( Because my contract was 3 months left to be expired ) even though i show them the pepper from my doctor that i can't practice any activity and i have to stop the gym.

Affordable with friendly staff. What I don't like is the fact that machines are not super fast repaired, the water machine is not easy to refill your bottle, and that some of the regulars are quite noisy.
However it is affordable, open 24 hours for 5 days per week and the staff is friendly.

I went there before it's nice I like it but it's so expensive

I've been going to this gym for 4 years. It's nothing fancy, but I definitely think it's a step above a lot of the other gyms in Astoria.
It's always clean and there are always people who work for the gym cleaning up equipment and trying to help organize the clutter that lazy gym members leave behind. The staff is polite for the most part, minus a few grumpy and unfriendly managers, and there's a good amount of classes to choose from, including CrossFit for an additional fee.
The saunas and steam room aren't often working, but other than that the locker rooms are always well kept.
The gym itself has lots equipment for every type of gym goer, and only at super peak hours do you find yourself waiting longer than a few minutes for a machine or set up.

Do not go to this gym! My husband joined and was happy there, until he got a job and had to move away. He repeatedly tried to cancel his membership. They continue to charge him monthly, and now that he cancelled paying them, they are threatening to go to a collection agency. He has tried to talk to them, nicely, to come up with some plan, they are unreasonable. Please, go somewhere where people in management are approachable when life throws you a curve ball. DO NOT TRUST THESE FOLKS!

If you read the bad reviews then you will notice that almost none of them are about the club condition - it is near immaculate and there are lots of extras. The complaints are all from members on their last month who didn't read the contract and follow through by canceling in person in writing with a receipt. (Most likely because a front desk worker says not to worry and management does not return calls) . I followed through IN PERSON and IN WRITING and so I had NO PROBLEM. I really enjoyed and miss this gym.
