Phyzique is the perfect gym for any type of gym goer: from the aspiring power-lifter to the average treadmill runner after work. And I highly recommend it to anyone who is on the fence about selecting a gym that lives in Queens or near that area.
To preface: I'm neither an Olympic Power-Lifter, nor am I the casual gym goer who primarily spends my time at the treadmill. I aim to improve my physique for aesthetic and performance benefits. So my review will be through that perspective.
To begin with, Phyzique is a relatively small one floor gym but has all the amnesties one could ask for, and provides far more than either Blink or Planet Fitness do.
There are two rows of treadmills at the front. There is also a warm up and calisthenics area in the back with foam mats and foam rollers for warm ups and cool downs. All the normal hosts of machines are also present.
There are two sets of power racks, able to be converted with attachments for squats, presses, or rows. This area also doubles as the deadlift area. This is easily the most popular area of the gym, and is usually busy during peak hours. However it has all the tools a lifter would need. Along with the two power racks you have two assist racks.
There are 2 incline benches, 3 flat benches, and 1 decline bench.
There are 4 to 5 adjustable benches near the free weights.
You also have your normal host of rope machines and other standard machines.
The gym is kept extremely clean and organized, with the community of Phyzique being exceptionally responsible. You will frequently see members wiping down machines after their own workout and placing weights back where they belong.
This also extends to the locker room. I can only speak for the men's area, but both the locker room, along with shower and bathroom area are clean and I have no problem using.
The community of Phyzique is probably the best aspect of this gym. You will frequently see people of all shapes and sizes working out in harmony. The staff and even owner of the gym are common sights to see as well, and have no problem interacting with customers and answering questions to help get you to your fitness goal.
However, I should note that the demographic for Phyzique are mostly working adults, and as a result the gym tends to fill out and become busy after 5pm until 9pm. Something you should keep in mind if that's that time you plan to work out.
I did not subscribe to the training program, but they offer one free fitness consultation and my trainer (Jason) was simply fantastic. He understood what my fitness goals were and helped me understand what I would need to do to get there. He was extremely knowledgeable and taught me a lot about fitness I would have never known on my own.
All in all, I am extremely satisfied in my choice in Phyzique being my personal gym. I've been to Blink and Planet Fitness, and there is no contest: Phyzique is superior in every way.
