I've had nothing but positive experiences at Renzo Gracie Queens. Professor Magno and his associate instructors are very knowledgeable and welcoming to students of all levels. The gym is clean and offers several classes each day to accommodate all schedules. Most of all, this gym offers a great community of students who are kind, respectful, and hardworking. To anyone considering starting their practice in jiujitsu - stop by and take the intro class, you won't regret it.

My first free lesson was with the Adult No Gi class. I was taught one take down and one submission then I was immediately thrown into the mix to grapple. Having no experience what so ever; the students were able to adjust to my level and allow me to really try what I learned full on without holding back. Overall there a good sense of community l, everyone was kind, patient and the instruction was very easy to digest.

I started with a groupon for 5 classes and was instantly hooked. Ive been attending the school for 6 months now. I've had some training before, but nothing is as intricate and detailed as this school. All the instructors are extremely detailed and patient, and Magno, the head instructor, is the best of the best. Laura who is at the front desk is always very attentive and very helpful and pleasant. I recommend this school to anyone looking to learn a martial arts or get in shape.

I started my jiu jitsu journey at Renzo Gracie Astoria almost two months ago and I have so much fun every time I go. Everyone is really nice for some reason and the instructors are super friendly and knowledgable. Magno, Nick, and Marwin are great at explaining techniques and they're always looking out to fix anything you're doing wrong. I highly recommend this place for anyone; you'll fit right in!

If I could give more than 5 stars as a rating I would. From someone who has loved Martial Arts since a child, I couldn't be more grateful to have found this gym. It is only going to be my second lesson and I could not possibly be more excited. I never had the money to go to a gym and I was always very scared. I never felt I had a place to belong to or be accepted, so going into a place to train in something I know nothing about is terrifying for me since I've always been anxious and afraid of continued judgement. I walked into RGA for one lesson and just felt at home and cared about. The prices are VERY reasonable, especially at the level you will be learning at you will not find anything even close to as good. Magno, Marwin and Nick are not only extremely kind and caring people, but all skilled beyond belief. In only one lesson I had the opportunity to learn a little from Professor Marwin and I experienced the skill first hand after being flung in the air like I was an empty sack of potatos when Professor Marwin was showing me how to get someone in a mount off of you (I am also over 6 feet tall and well over 185 lbs so you could imagine what it must take to fling me so effortlessly). It was such a welcoming environment that I'm not only excited about the next lesson, I'm most excited about the years and years I will be investing in this gym and growing with this family. If you truly want to change your life physically and mentally in happy, warm and comfortable place, you have found exactly what you have been looking for with RGA. The 2 ladies at the front desk are both extremely knowledgeable, kind and helpful! They welcome you with a smile and an expression that makes you feel that they are just as excited to have you join the family as you are to become a part of the family and you just don't find people like that often at all! I had trained with Laura on my first day and she took the time and patience to also teach me new techniques and help me learn in the little time we had at the moment. She had explained and detailed everything so well that I had learned my first submission within only a couple of minutes!
As I said before, I feel this is the gym to go to for anyone with an interest of learning a Martial Art or just building a better, happier and healthier life. After only one session I believe this will stand as one of the best decisions I've made in my 21 years of life! 5 stars for me and add another 5 since Google won't let me!

I went in for a free trial class and left hooked! The instructors are super patient. The students are welcoming. And the facility is clean and spacious I highly recommend this academy if you're interested in BJJ.

Magno Gama has been my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Professor since my first lesson back in late 2009. I originally trained with him privately and took his beginner classes as a white belt back at the main Renzo Gracie Academy, and now as a brown belt, still regularly take private lessons from him. I have been lucky to have been taught by some of the best instructors on the planet over the years including Master Renzo Gracie, John Danaher, and a dozen or so other high degree black belts.
Magno is simply the best professor out there for beginners - nobody breaks down the fundamentals of the art as clearly, succinctly and intelligently as he does. He has instilled the same values that have allowed him to be such a great instructor, competitor and innovator in both his academy and his staff. He has also developed - working closely with other great Gracie and Danaher alumni - some of the most creative and effective advanced games out there.
Professor Magno is the embodiment of the modern warrior and those lucky enough to be taught by him will be embarking on a great journey that will last years.

This really is a great gym. It's a great place to start building your foundation as a beginner. Also, you can't beat the price. 150/month for unlimited classes. Magno along with the other assistant instructors are legit. They have a very unique way of breaking down technique. Very easy to follow.
On top of all that, the gym is full of good people who genuinely care each other. I highly recommend this gym.

Martial arts gyms can be intimidating places, especially for someone like myself who had no experience in any combat art, but Magno and his team are very welcoming and accepting of all body types, fitness levels and ages. The atmosphere in the gym is one of respect (bowing when entering/leaving the mat, always greeting fellow students and instructors), the classes are a great physical/mental workout and students are encouraged to learn at their own pace.
If you are looking for the best martial arts gym in Astoria, you've found it!

From the moment you enter this wonderful academy you already start to feel at home. The instructors are excellent and the students are a reflection of the teacher. I started my journey here at Renzo Gracie Astoria. The beginner classes are phenomenal. The attention to detail and the individual attention recieved from Magno and the rest of the instructors really helps build your skills and confidence. The advanced classes are no different. Surrounded by high-level competition and the same detailed teaching, it is the perfect environment to bring your game to the next level.

I highly recommend this BJJ academy. I've been training here for roughly 8 months. Professor Magno Gama and all the instructors are topnotch. They are patient, knowledgeable, and their explanations of the techniques are clear. I find myself learning and getting better with every class I attend. The staff is wonderful. The facility is clean and comfortable. I love starting my day here.

Been attending classes for half a year now and my only problem is I don't have more time to go to class! Great location, great teachers as well as well as training partners and a schedule that makes it easy to get on on mats no matter your schedule.
