NY MARTIAL ARTS ACADEMY INSTRUCTORS DEMONSTRATED THEIR EXPERTISE, DISCIPLINE AND PROFESSIONALISM IN TEACHING THEIR CLASSES, WHICH IMPRESSED ME. IN ADDITION, THE INSTRUCTORS TAKE THEIR TIME WITH THEIR STUDENTS IN DEVELOPING THEIR WEAKNESS AND THEIR STRENGTHS, MENTALLY, PSYCHOLOGICALLY, EMOTIONALLY AND SPIRITUALLY INTERNALLY WHILE LEARNING THE ART.
I normally train at the Astoria location but have taken a handful of classes at the Williamsburg location. The facility in Williamsburg is even more impressive than the Astoria location. The staff is just as friendly and some instructors teach in both locations so I felt right at home. I had no previous martial arts experience before training at NYMAA so at first I was nervous. In a few months my skills greatly improved and I even lost weight! I feel stronger and more confident. The other students at the academy are very friendly as well. I'll be a member for a long time.
As someone who has been to various academies and places to train, My experience here was quite different. Everything thing that is taught is taught in a practical sense. "You can bob and weave memorize all these fancy maneuvers but, an attacker is not throwing that combination every time." The Mentors there are very patient and down to earth making you feel as a student that you are more important to the art than the master. Even mitt work and thai pads are a regular part of the training. The thing that makes this place unique is that the more advanced students or more than willing to help and answer any questions I had making me feel a strong sense of community. Everyone helps and looks out for one another from mentors to students.
Best people around. Students and instructors. The thing I look forward to every week.
I love this place! I visited many different martial art schools before choosing this one mainly because of the friendly atmosphere.The staff made me feel like I was part of a big family since day one during the pre-trial lesson, which they offer to anyone interested in attending their school. I have been attending New York Martial Arts Academy for almost a year now and it has been one of the best experiences of my life. I have a few medical issues and I was concerned that I would not be able to participate in any martial art activity. Luckily, my doctor wrote me a note permitting me to participate on a limited basis. I was very scared and very nervous. It's been 10 months in and with the guidance of the instructors, I have been able to fully participate in all of the activities in each class. The instructors are very patient and understanding of my situation. They take their time explaining things when you need and they always provide the classes with fun and positive vibes. The students are also very friendly, courteous, engaging and encouraging. It's such a pleasure training with these guys. Instead of being nervous about not fitting in the martial arts classes and I am always excited to attend each class. If you're interested in learning Jeet Kun Do or if you're already a martial artist who is interested in learning a new martial art or expanding your horizons, I highly recommend visiting New York Martial Arts Academy.
This school really is a great place to train. The instructors know their stuff and also have really good energy. Everyone in the school are good people and just make the place feel very welcoming. If youre looking to train this is the school to be in.

I have been training at NY Martial Arts Academy for almost two years now. I love it so much. I feel so much better after every class. It is a good workout but also a good stress reliever. It is also nice to be surrounded by wonderful instructors and other martial artists. They make the environment inviting and coming here is the highlight of my day!

New York Martial Arts Academy is an amazing school! The instructors are patient, understanding and very well versed in Martial Arts. They teach Jeet Kune Do and instill it's principals in their students. Please give this school a try, you will not be disapointed!

We are sooo glad we decided to enroll our son here. It has helped with his personal issues as well as making new friends. Sifu are always more than willing to help provide guidance and assist with redirecting him if we have any issues. Our son has grown and learned alot, and continues to grow through the program. Highly recommend.

When I first joined to be honest it was because of the beautiful Bruce Lee mural on the wall that drew me to walk inside. But after speaking with one of the instructors they convinced me otherwise and I have been a student for a couple of years. I strongly recommend you give it a shot as you have nothing to loose but only to gain.
I am an employee here and my two sons attend the school as well. I love working here a lot and the instructors are amazing with children and the adults. Very homely atmosphere and they really genuinely care about all. If your looking for an awesome martial arts school this is it.

It is very difficult to find a school that teaches an effective combat martial art balanced with a friendly & collaborative environment. The knowledge, skills, and passion that the instructors bring everyday really make it the best school we have ever trained at.
As for the art itself, it may seem simple on the surface but I am still working to perfect the skills I was taught during my first intro week at the school. The art teaches what is equivalent to black belt techniques in other arts the first day and gives you time to perfect them through out your training. It focuses on simplify, efficiency, and effectiveness and now I also take that same approach to everything else I do.
The kid's class has helped my son develop a sense of discipline, focus, and dedication. The supportive environment has really elevated his confidence level, on top of that I know that he can defend himself if he needs to.
I highly recommend this school to anyone interested in martial arts, but know that it will take commitment and a willingness to push yourself past your comfort zone, and the instructors and other students will be there to support you!
