Awesome atmosphere, great members and staff, very clean with affordable memberships and perks.
Solid gym in S Williamsburg with a nice selection of classes. Was a member for seven years and am only knocking it a couple stars because I had problems canceling my membership. The new management seems to be taking care of things though, so would def recommend.
They offer a month to month basis membership then i tried to cancel and mark reception guy on top of offer an awful customer service. Never did the cancelation when i requested. It was clear when i sign that this gym offered a month to month service. Now 5 months ago i am receiving emails requesting me to pay for a service i requested back on february to terminate. Another scam! Stay away. Plus the maintenance of the bathrooms is poor. In many opportunities i used the toilettes and i could tell for fact that they were not cleaned for days, cant be more graphic about it but is clear what i mean to say.

I've been a member since the beginning of this year and in the last month or so I have seen a tremendous amount of significant improvement. It's easy sometimes to get used to mediocre, but the level of attention that has been put into the gym recently is praise-worthy. My greatest issue with the gym was how cold the fitness rooms were. Not only have they worked on stabilizing the temperature but the room is now full of all new, nice and clean equipment. The overall gym has gotten a nice face-lift too! Some bulbs here, fresh new paint there...all nice touches to make the overall experience well-received. Even the WIFI password went from 20 letters of impossible to connect to, to something simple!
I must add, I appreciate seeing the staff actively cleaning the machines. You get a gold star for that! Thanks new managers!

Went in today to sign up. I was turned away even tho I had proof from speaking with the general manager. I showed Matt who said he was the manager the email and he told me he was sorry but the rate that was not going to be approved. I've been a member on and off since 2009. I'm extremely disappointed with Matt he took a look at my proof and said i can only give you that rate for 6 months. I guess there is no loyalty for returning members.
Kind of a dirty dump. Apparently their resolution for 2018 is turning the place around, which may include actually having certain parts cleaned at least once this year, but don't hold your breath. What they lack in cleanliness and class they make up for as a monopoly where they are. Unless you plan to walk much further there isn't another option for you. I recently switched to Equinox which for the price isn't quite up to par, but it is super clean at least.

I love this place! It has great facilities, equipment, and the staff! I joined at the beginning of the year and have taken my personal health to the next level. I am stronger, toned, and happier. I had another gym membership in the area before but it wasn't for me. This place is my vibe. The music they play is always awesome and the group classes are contagious!
I feel a great sense of community at this gym. The owners, managers, staff, and instructors are courteous, friendly, and professional. I experience this gym mostly through the group classes, which include an impressive variety of activities- Vinyasa Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Pilates, Spin, Boxing, Bootcamp (both indoor and outdoor). The steam room and sauna are a great reward after a hard workout.
Awesome gym, nice staff, clean, not too crowded
Unsanitary. The (men's) locker room is simply disgusting. One of the reasons I stopped going here is because if you change from your work clothes, work out for just half an hour and return to shower and change your work cloths will absolutely stink all day due to the serious lack in ventilation and upkeep. Stared at a moldy dripping ceiling in the downstairs coming from the showers over my workout bench for months with nothing more than a drip bucket on the floor to tell you to watch out. Also what's with staff of the opposite sex walking into the locker rooms all day like it's nothing?
Place is a joke.
I go to this gym 2x a day and the bathrooms are well taken care of IMO. they have plenty of classes that are free with membership. Good equipment. It never really gets too busy. Never really have to wait for treadmills. Boxing rooms speed bag has been broken for a while and i cant seem to get somebody to take ownership of the matter and fix it. Sauna is nice, the steam room is never consistent. Ship could be run a little tighter in regards to maintenance, for example, I've been trying to get somebody to fix the speed bag for the past few months but nothing. ive mentioned it a few times but nobody wants to own it. seriously its like $200 to replace it. fix it already! thats my only gripe . They do have a nice little boxing room with heavy bags , headache bag, speedbag.If they were to have fixed this upon the second request i would have rated a 5. All in all im very happy with SOMA.
