Awful. I wasn't expecting much given its a hostel but for $85 it was a waste of money. Tiny room without any heat control for the radiator, thin blankets, and hallway/street noise into the wee hours of the night.

Be aware that the heat radiator also likes to spaz out every hour and its really loud.

If you're looking for a place to stay spend the extra $15-20 bucks a night for a legitimate hotel nearby.

Best accommodation for budget conscious travelers. The rooms were well worn, but I was happy for the price.

Perfect! Like a dorm room in college, hostel style facility and super clean! Its quiet, has security, nice & efficient staff, full gym access w pools, steam and sauna rooms + massages available.
Yes, the heater does have a hourly banging noise but after night 2, I could sleep through it.

I am absolutely disappointed. Although our stay was solely paid cash the hostel charged 260$ on my credit card without my permission two days after I checked out. There is no reaction on any e-mails that I sent. I do not recommend to stay there. Do not give any credit card information!

This place is good for wheelchairs with low budgets. The standard rooms are very small, but accessible with an usual manual wheelchair. The more expensive but more comfortable rooms should have more space for bigger wheelchairs(electrical ones). There are also accessible showers equipped with chairs for showering on the 4th floor. Two elevators gives you also a safe way to the rooms with a wheelchair. Accessible toilets are on each floor.
In general also a nice accommodation for low budgets. Not overwhelming but a good cheap way for a stay in the central of manhattan.

Rooms are small and potentially a struggle for two staying with large suitcases. Would be good to have had more washing areas to cope with higher demand hours. For staying on Manhattan Island itself, this is a very cost effective way of being near everything you need, but if you can afford to spend a few dollars more per night, then do.

I was a little nervous to stay here because the reviews were so mixed, but honestly, it's not as bad as many of the reviews say! It's basically what I expected-- a no-frills hostel room above a YMCA. Yes, the staff was usually grumpy, and yes, the rooms are pretty basic, but if you're on a budget it really can't be beat. And hey, you can even use the pool. The room was small, but not as small as I expected, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it even had a writing desk and mini-fridge. The room was spotless and they even changed my towels and sheets every day. I was glad I'd booked a room with a sink, as the bathroom situation was a little weird. Not sure how it was on other floors, but on mine there were only two women's bathrooms for the whole floor. One only had two showers in it, and the other had two toilets, three open showers (without shower curtains), and one sort of "shower closet" behind a closet door. The two-shower bathroom was periodically locked, so I had to choose between baring it all in one of the curtain-less showers or hoping that no one peeped the window on the closet shower. I opted for the closet shower, although the setup was still weird enough that in order to actually get my towel, I had a quick brave moment of whipping open the closet door and hoping no one walked in while I exposed myself.
So, would this be my top choice for staying in NYC? Oh no. But would I consider staying here again? Surprisingly....yes. And maybe next time I'll actually have time to use the sauna.

Oh, one more thing--when I booked it, I was thinking it was right next to Grand Central station. Not the case. It's about a 10-minute walk.

The rooms are so tiny so that you need to stand next to each other and have to go to the end of the room if one of the people needs to pass. The room didn't have an air conditioner, just a small fan that partially worked, it was hard to breath in the room.
Paint was coming off the walls and white shreds kept falling on us.

The shower was super contaminated with bugs, and the water stream was very weak.

When checking out, you actually have to pay 2$ for each bag you want to keep in the luggage room.

The management & service was very lacking and rude. we got woken up in the middle of the night by one of the workers as he asked us to stop using our electricity plugs, he woke us up with loud knocks on the door and didn't even apologize, And when we asked to get a room with good electricity plugs, they did not respond and did not give us any alternative, we had to charge our laptop & phones at Starbucks every morning. Aswell, the manager was unreachable, and in the first day, according to them, was non-existant. At the end they let us speak with the "building manager".

In conclusion - I'd stay away from this hotel. Despite its being cheap and in a great location, I wouldn't recommend anyone staying there. Avoid at all cost.

If you are on a budget and don't mind shared facilities, it's not a bad option. I never had to wait for the toilet or shower even though it is shared with the whole floor. The window AC unit was sufficient and kept the room nice and cold. Towels and linens were changed daily and the bathroom was kept quite clean.

I just returned from a three night stay -- two nights, a trip to Massachusetts, and then another night. I recommend it without hesitation. The place is spotlessly clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location, a couple of blocks from the United Nations (and some of the world's most expensive residences), yet with plenty of modestly priced food options in an easy walk, cannot be matched anywhere. Why are there some negative reviews on the site? Trolls, I think. They almost scared me away. I am very glad they did not. [Obviously, everything is simple. If you want to stay at the Pierre, expect to pay accordingly.]

I'm a young guy in excellent health and after a night on the beds here I was walking like an 80 year old man, my back was wracked with pain. Not sure of this place is appreciably worse than others that are this cheap but if so the extra money is definitely worth it for a good night's sleep.

To start off, the location is amazing. Two minutes from the subway, lots of good restaurants and even a few museums quite in the vicinity. However, the staff is very grumpy and does not seem to want to be working here at all. The men's showers are big and clean, the women's however are small and dirty, and can't even be locked. We constantly only used the men's showers. There's a public kitchen and a few vending machines, and attached to the hotel is a (members only) gym.

I stayed in this hostel for three weeks that are luckily finished today. The room was so tiny that me and my roommate didn't know where to put our luggage. My room's door didn't work properly and sometimes the key stopped working for no reasons at all.
We didn't have a mirror and there was only one bathroom for the whole third flour (there are approximately 30 rooms on each flour), which of course was always occupied.
Also the kitchen was small, not fully equipped and overcrowded (one kitchen for 10 flours).
Apparently housekeeping only consist in making the bed because I had the same dirty on the flour for three weeks.
What made me angry the most is that, after I checked out, I asked the staff if I could leave my luggage for 10 minutes and they told me I had to pay a ticket. For 10 bloody minutes!
The location is very convenient but it doesn't worth it.

Listen very carefully kids, I'm here to help so that you don't do the same mistake I did. I get why you want to stay here: It's cheap and has a good location, right? I understand, that's what I wanted too. Believe me though, If I knew what it actually was, I wouldn't have come here. Where do i start? Rude and unprofessional staff, squeaky bed and doors, thin walls so you literally hear every single teenager on the floor screaming, dirty carpets, room is the size of a shoebox, the AC and the fridge make noises that won't let you sleep and, most importantly, the most disgusting bathrooms I have ever seen in my entire life. I've been to a lot of hostels and motels around the world, never in my life have I seen such horribly maintained place. First of all, 2 toilets for the whole floor? Are you kidding me? Second of all, does anybody clean them? The smell you get when you enter the showers will make you gag and there's no water pressure. There's NO WATER. There's no privacy either. This place is basically a prison so stay away from it. You don't have the money to afford a better place? No problem, postpone your trip, save 200$ and book somewhere else. I guarantee your trip will be ruined if you stay here. This place is SO DIRTY it should be illegal ... and if you gave this place 5 stars, you're an idiot and should not be a local ''guide''

To top it all, they charge their own ''guests'' 2$ to store luggage hah!

Your better of sleeping in your car. Bed is horrible, shower water pressure is non-existent, more of a drip than flow. I recommend taking your soap, shampoo into the pool instead.

Since I work around the corner, my husband and I sends my son there for camp. It's easy for me to take him with me, drop him off and head to work. It's his second year and so far he's loving it.

Ubicación buena, el servicio muy bueno.

I was not using the gym to workout, but I did attend for a continuing education credit for my personal training certification. The gym did appear neat and clean as well as having proper security at the front desk to direct me where I needed to be.

Was okay. Cheap motel. People seemed friendly enough but the whole place stunk and had to wait 15-20 minutes in line to use restroom every morning. I would stay again but probably would look elsewhere first.

I stayed in a single deluxe room which had a small desk and trashcan, air conditioning unit, single bed with drawers underneath, a small wall mounted TV with a few dozen local channels, a small metal shelf/coat rack combo, a rectangular vertical mirror by the door, a small cube mini fridge, and a window that can be opened for some fresh air - although it may be a bit noisy outside. Due to the layout of the rooms, the halls can be a bit noisy as well depending on the other guests, and it is almost impossible to shut the heavy room doors so that they lock without allowing them to close on their own, which makes a loud slamming sound. The walls are a bit thin and it is possible to hear TV's or people talking either in adjacent rooms or in the hallway. The bed was comfortable, however they only provide one pillow.

The deluxe rooms offer a semi-private bathroom which are shared, but are individual and can be locked so that you are the only person occupying the room. My floor had four bathrooms, and there was never a time that i had to wait to use one. The bathrooms are cleaned at least one time per day, and stay relatively clean throughout the day, although water from the shower would soak the floor after being used, making it a bit difficult to use the toilet afterwards due to the puddles. Hotel rooms are cleaned daily during which beds are cleaned and made, and a fresh towel is left in your room after each cleaning. Rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. The mini fridge works, but may take up to a half day for items to become cold.

There's a 24 hour CVS located on the corner which takes about a minute to walk to where you can buy medicines or groceries to stock your room with. I got a loaf of bread, peanut butter and jelly, a pack of bagels, a pack of granola bars, plastic utensils, and a case of bottled water for ~$25. For people who are light sleepers, they also sell ear plugs. Grand Central station is only five blocks away, and there's a $0.99 pizza shop three blocks away.

There's concierge services at the front desk on site that can help you order a shuttle bus to go to the airport, and a small screen mounted to the wall with flight arrivals and departures posted in real-time. The front desk has a 24 hour security guard at the front at all times, although all that they require is for someone to flash their hotel key on the way to the elevators, which seems a bit lacking. Free WiFi is available and the WiFi password is changed routinely, so you may need to check with the front desk to get an updated password depending on the length of your stay.

Check in is at 3pm and checkout is at 11am, however if you arrive early or if your departure time is scheduled for a later time they do offer bag storage for $2 per bag until 11pm for current guests only. Additionally, guests have full access to the YMCA exercise facilities, a mini shared kitchen and dining area.

The location is midtown east near the United Nations headquarters and is surrounded by consulates. During the daytime it may be noisy outside, however it becomes a bit quieter at night. It is also located close to the East river and a few small shops and chain restaurants such as Starbucks, Wendy's, and Subway are nearby. Although there's not a lot in the immediate area, times square is about a twenty minute walk from the hotel and the area is very safe, even at night.

The cleaning staff are mostly Hispanic and do not speak much, if any English, but they are friendly and I never had any issues with theft. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the front desk staff. It is hard to contact them by phone - sometimes no one will answer or they will simply hang up on you. I had tried calling a few times prior to my arrival and only once was I able to speak with a staff member. Being able to talk to someone on the phone and get information is unfortunately difficult. In person, most of the front desk staff aren't much better, often seeming cold and unfriendly as if they are only there for a paycheck and uninterested in the quality of their guests experience.

Worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Some creepy guy kept asking my friend to come in his room. There was no bathroom in our tiny corner room and when our keycards stopped working their solution was to make us wait until the next day and that one of us needed to be in the room while the other went to the bathroom at the end of the hall. Why they couldn't fix this immediately like every other hotel I've been to escapes me.

Great budget option for those who want to stay in the heart of NYC without spending a fortune. Facilities may be basic, but everything is clean and staff are helpful. If you just need somewhere to get your head down, this is for you.

I was here in August 2017 , it was a great experience they have good wifi , swimming pool, gym
Strongly suggested for single traveller

January 10, 2018 22:43

Just reviewing the gym. It's very well equipped. An entire big room with machines and a small one for free weights (that get's even smaller during peak season). Two swimming pools (water is barely warm). Locker/showers/sauna are pretty good and clean. Big cardio room, basketball court (don't know if standard size) and a big saloon for aerobics. Personnel at the front desk is a bit rough and indifferent; I knew only one PT with the attitude of giving some simple advice (yes I know one should pay for that: but SIMPLE advice, come on...). Security guards seems to be having a bad time there.

January 1, 2018 17:04

The rooms were clean and nice. The staff was very friendly and the kitchen was perfectly equipped.

October 18, 2017 11:02

It gets the job done. The rooms are small, but if you're going out and about and mostly using it for sleeping then it's fine! It's good 15-20 min walk from Times Square, so that's a good place to start. They provide you with towels for the showers and housekeeping comes to get trash and make beds. So if you plan on barely being in your room and need something cheap, this is great. You also have access to the gym and pool (but only if you have a swim cap for the pool).

October 18, 2017 11:02

You get what you pay for.
Always had a good time here (3 stays).
Yes, the rooms are very small but always clean. Employees are super friendly and the gym is perfectly equipped! Plus the location is just steps away from midtown Manhattan so this is the perfect starting point for all your NYC adventures.

October 18, 2017 11:02

Ok I just got a question about it is good for a weekend get away and I had to answer yes or no. What? If you want to a room that is part of the experience the answer is NO. If you want a place to sleep and spend minimum time there this is a great clean economical place. However you will find plenty of deals on non holiday weekends in near by hotels. It is a great location, highly functional, clean. It is a million miles from luxury.

October 18, 2017 11:02

I would definitely stay here again. My sister and i booked a room for one night while we were in the city seeing A broadway show. We were only staying in NY one night so this was perfect for what we needed. We had a place to drop off our bags, take a quick shower and come back and sleep after our show. The rooms are dorm room sized so if you want a lot out of a hotel this wouldn't be grest but if all you need is a comfy bed to sleep in this is perfect. Its close go grand central station and a 20 minute walk away from times square so i definitely loved how easy it was to get and from places while we were there

October 18, 2017 11:02

Staff was nice. Room was clean though very small. Dorm room small. Bed clean and very comfortable. Bathroom clean in the semi private ones. Besides the size, it was a good stay.
