There are these new fangled clubs from spin to yoga to CrossFit to Martial Arts...NYHRC is not one of these

This place is totally old school. It reminds me of the clubs in the 1980s just a bunch of stuff to lift

However, if you want to lift weights, swim or play racquetball, this may be a decent club for you

Solid, but hardly spectacular, trendy, up to date, etc

I have been going to this gym for over two years now and just had enough of it. The employees are all unresponsive and unhelpful. The trainers keep hitting on my wife and other female patrons. The gym is never clean and the layout changes constantly...

By all means you will be wasting your money.

When I went there a few weeks ago, the receptionist, Mystery, expressed the very best of her LACK of PROFESSIONALISM! I was shocked by her coldness and unwelcoming attitude. This employee was looking at me as if I were bothering her by showing-up at NYHRC Reception Desk. The manner I was 'taken care of' by her, was a perfect embodiment of the implicit question WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE! She definitely made me feel that I was a burden. After a workout, which I did with a 'ruined' mood because of this lady - who was, one day, selected to be a representative of NYHRC - I stopped by the desk to ask for her name. An employee by the name of Izzy, who appeared to be in charge at the time, simply gave me the name! From a Customer Service perspective, since I was asking for the name of an employee (I was calm but visibly dissatisfied), he could have seized the opportunity and asked if there was anything wrong. He could have corrected the situation or, at least, he could have tried. No, he did not bother. He even spelled "M Y S T E Y" for me. Talk about Customer Service.

I am a new member but I have used so far, the clubs... 21st, 23rd, 50th, 56th and 76th. Mystey is the Receptionist representing NYRC at its worst image. Because of the service I DID NOT GET, I find it very appropriate to give ZERO star to this location, but Google Review won't allow posting with 0 stars!

I went as a guest. The instructor, class and participants were awesome!

I have been a member here for over a year and I am happy to have decided to switch from Equinox. This location is my favorite because the jacuzzi is very efficient and has strong jets in addition to the eucalyptus sauna which I enjoy sometimes. The pool is saltwater and has a section for people like myself who like to use Dumbbells and do water aerobics.
I was a member at Equinox for 4 years before switching and the difference is a huge. Nyhrc pools are all saltwater as opposed to Equinox Gil of chlorine and chemicals. I pay $130 per month here and have access to all locations as opposed to $200+ at Equinox. In addition, Equinox steam rooms and saunas are full of weirdos...
Audie, Solange, Melody, Freddy, Jesus all great people who work in the club! Highly recommend joining here if you are looking to get a membership! Audie, their head membership advisor, can help you best!

This gym is great to do one legged squats and check out your bulging thighs afterward in the mirror. But the hours suck on the weekends. Can a man do some bicep curls on saturday AM so he can look jacked at hudson terrace later that night with the fist pump.

Returning member. Again. Some may call it drab, I call it my home away from home. 2005 (or earlier) I first joined this location. Visited &/or joined economical & premium gyms in Long Island, Manhattan, & Brooklyn (Gleason's, NYSC, Richie's, NYC gyms, etc.) since 1995. This is still my favorite. Staff members are there both new & some from 2005, are helpful, & if you're nice, they're nice! Great classes, & gym has great amenities.

Great gym!

Lots of good classes. I feel like I get my money's worth on the classes alone. I have returned to about 75% of the classes I've been to, which makes me feel comfortable saying that most of the classes and instructors are terrific.

NYHRC also has a nice variety of equipment and they have pools at many of their locations.

Only negative is that if you're working out without headphones, you will be aggressively approached by personal trainers. Also, the gym is pretty clean, but not immaculate.
