Tiny rooms, shared bathrooms. Not renovated for some time. But this location for this price?! Amazing!
I did not have a chance to use gym or pool, but I have heard they are ok. Helpful service.

Nice location, mediocre facilities- I got a room that looks just like the one in the photos (no hairdryers tho)... I did my research and this is the only hotel you can get a private room around $100 a day in midtown - safe location with nice security- the safe actually works! - never waited to use the shower and had hot water every day.. had no hygienic issues with the room or bathroom but I would rather not use it bare feet.. just bring a flipflop to wear in the shower and it will be okay
FYI they charge an extra $10 a day for fitness and the swimming pool which I never used.. which kinda sucks

I came here due to present my paper at the MobiQuitous. Florida International University paid for my travel expenses, and I chose this location to due the pictures of their rooms. It seemed very spacious and bright; however, it was quite small and simple. They don't have private bathroom, and I saw a mouse in the first floor (I think they are very common in New York). I don't think their service justified their price of 196$ per night

The price was very afford for this time of the year. The location was excellent. The showers only had cold water. I didn't know they don't stock wash cloths. I had to call to get the bathroom code. The beds were uncomfortable. I didn't feel safe climbing the bunk bed. It's a very convenient place, especially if you're on a budget. But it's best to save up and go elsewhere. I've stayed in better hostels.

While the rooms are very modest and the shared bathroom just okay the rest of everything was great.

The large staff are all very nice and helpful.

Being able to utilize the entire gym, bathrooms, pool, steam rooms and more made it super enjoyable. That was a great tipping point for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed being next to Central Park, it was lovely!

I used grub hub to deliver dinner one night and ate in the downstairs "dining area."

The tiny shop inside the facility was convenient also, especially for morning coffee.

I would stay here again.

Terrible, the staff at check in was very grumpy and we did not feel welcome at all. The rooms are tiny and definitely not being cleaned properly, there was all kinds of stains on the walls and floor. The bed made the most noise so everytime I would be tossing and turning my boyfriend would wake up from the bed being so loud. The walls are very thin so we could hear everything going on in the surrounding rooms. A lot of young people come here so we would be woken up at 5 by them singing and screaming in their rooms. The doors of the rooms are very heavy so everytime a door would shut we could hear it. The showers and bathrooms are disgusting and poorly made, they are also very crowded. There is no hot water at all so that was a very bad way to start my day every time. During our stay, someone triggered the fire alarm and we got little to no instructions from the staff. They asked us to come downstairs and after that they gave us no information at all. We saw the fire department pull up and when they left they told us to go back upstairs without any explanation. I did not expect a lot from this place but this was even worse than I could ever imagine. If I could turn back time, I would definitely spend a little more for a clean hotel or hostel with warm showers and nice service.

The location is fantastic. It's very close to Central Park. There was a gorgeous view from my room. The staff are very friendly and courteous. However, it was very pricey, as are so many things in the Big Apple. The bed was not comfortable, but the room was clean. It was inconvenient to have to leave the room to use the washroom, but it is the YMCA, not the Ritz Carlton. I was pleased overall with my stay.

Amazing location. I felt safe there.
Perfect for our girls weekend in New York.
I had no idea what to expect as I've never stayed in a hostel. But it was perfect for what we needed, which was a place to lay our heads for a few hours each night. TV and fridge in room. The shared bathroom was down the hall. It was okay. always stocked with hand soap and toilet paper and not crowded.
The employees were very friendly and helpful.
I skipped the little store on the first floor because there was a fruit stand at the corner and a bakery that had cheaper coffee right down the street.

I was pleasantly surprised. The location is perfect next to Central Park and only 4 minutes from the subway. The rooms are small but everything in it what you need. I had a room at the end of the hall, where I had my peace. In the room is a safe, cleaned every day and fresh towels. Only the bathroom: there is only one for men and one for women, not enough on my big floor. At night too far to the toilet, so empty bottle used at night. Wifi good but different sites blocked. Prices are great. Will book it again. All staff nice.

I was there to drop off and to pick up my daughter from the other YMCA in Huguenot. The place was very inviting and the staff was very friendly. The dining area very nice and clean.

I come here for the pool. Pretty clean but very busy.

The air-conditioning is so poor, the room is hot.
The bunk bed is not steardy, it shakes and moves even when you change your side, making horrible noise. The shared bathrooms are extremely dirty, very small, the faucets don't work. There is dirt and water standing on the bathroom floor.
The wifi is slow.
In short very very disappointed with such a high price and such low quality .The only good thing is the location.

A nice place for cheap accommodation in the New York mainly for young traveler. Elevator are little bit old fashioned. Rooms are also less spacious. But good for the price.

I have regular annual gym membership, and I go here several times a week. The staff is always helpful and pleasant. The equipment is clean and fully functional. And the locker room is clean and well maintained. I always have a good workout here.

The bathroom was absolutely disgusting. Considering people paid more than a $100 for a room each night, I expect a better washroom. Besides, the whole hallway smells like piss. The two stars I'm giving is the location of the hostel

If you are looking to save some money while in NYC, this is the place to stay. If all you need is just a place to sleep, then stay here. It is in a fantastic location. Right next to Central Park and close walking distance to many popular sites.

Excelente ubicación. Buen precio. Muy tranquilo, seguro y conveniente.
Viajé solo y me resultó bien así. No se para otras circunstancias. Las fotos son del piso 8.

Lovely location right on Central Park, close to Columbus subway. Clean, warm and safe. The upgrade to private bathroom is worth paying a little extra for.

I'll start off with the good: the location is excellent. A 2 minute walk away from a subway station and right opposite central park.

Unfortunately, that's where the good ends. The rooms are ok - however feel slightly like a prison cell. The air-conditioning is incredibly loud and difficult to operate and the floor looks like it hasn't been cleaned since 2010. They did at least have contactless keycards and a safe for every room. The top bunk is difficult to get into because both of the ladders were instructed in our room, and the beds make an awful squeaking noise when there is any movement whatsoever. It appeared that most of the (110v) sockets in our room had also been painted over - and one socket was actually hanging out of the wall.

The worst bit about this hotel, by far, is the bathrooms. I wouldn't mind a communal bathroom if it was done well - however these feel like a massive afterthought. On the 9th floor, there were 3 toilets and 3 showers (per sex) for the entire floor of around 60-70 rooms. To make this worse - only 1 of the showers actually had a showerhead on it. There were no temperature controls - meaning the shower went from freezing cold to boiling hot every minute, and the shower curtains are smaller than the opening - leaving a good few inches on either side that anyone could look through.

If you're coming to New York and care about anything more than location, I'd look elsewhere.

This is probably the best YMCA in the city for swimming. Small pool for todlers and big pool for adults swimming with for lanes.

You get a small, basic room, with a twin bed and closet for less than $100 a night, if you book online. There are about 6 to 8 single bathrooms in the hallway with toilets and showers. If you want a private bathroom, it will cost a little more. I had absolutely no problem with the bathrooms. The bathroom doors locked securely, and they were surprisingly clean and well-lit. The only proplem that I had was with the tiny TV in my room. It did not work properly. Also, the view out of the window was of a brick wall. However, if you're on a tight budget and want to be in the middle of Manhattan, you can't beat this YMCA. How much time are you actually going to spend in your room, anyway? It's New York!!!

Nice hotel. Modest rooms but well priced for being in good location of Manhattan.

Enrolled in the gym membership program. All staff are very nice, but they have been telling me they don't have the cards for WEEKS. So every time I need to wait in line with other hotel guests to get the daily pass. They should have everything ready first. Regretted to enroll in the gym membership program. I give up going there, waste money. Just start going to other private gym in that area. You get what you pay for.

We had a short but really nice visit. The hostel is located central, so that you can reach Times Square within a 15 minute walk. The YMCA is also located near to where the famous "Shakespeare in the park" takes place, which I can totally recommend! The rooms aren't too luxurious, but absolutely answer their purpose. The YMCA can be recommended to everyone, that wants to be active while staying in NYC, the gym area is incredible and spreads over thee levels. It includes a lot of regular gym devices, but also a swimming pool and an extra area for spinning, doing gymnastics or playing basketball. The hostel is very cheap, but we were totally surprised, by what it had to offer. (we weren't too interested in the rooms and public bathes, because we just used them for sleeping)

Nice location, Rooms were small, gym is nice, pool sucked because you needed a swim cap for $10 witch is a rip-off and bathrooms disturbed me. Stayed in room 1111 and didn't have nice view at all it was facing another part of the hotel.

October 18, 2017 10:59

I stayed in this hotel on May. Because of the great location you get, the quality isn't that good for the price you pay. The worst part I experienced from the trip is that they checked me out while i was in my room and a stranger opened the door. They told me they will refund but when I come back from the trip, they've been avoiding the call and they won't do refund. High unlikely I will visit this place again.
