I was an Equinox member for over five years. I've used ~20 different clubs all over the city at different points. I'm leaving my review at the Bryant Park location because it's the one I used the most in the recent past, but this review applies to Equinox overall.
First, specifics about the club:
1) It's in the basement, so if you want views / natural light while you're working out, this isn't the club for you
2) The facilities are nice and modern compared to many Equinox branches, though not as fresh as some of the newest locations (Dumbo). Still, it was always one of my favorite clubs to work out in.
3) It is a nightmare at peak hours, at least in the ladies locker rooms -- think long lines for showers and hair dryers. After 9am, or if you can sneak your lunch workout in a little early (or late, just avoiding the showers right around 1pm) you're better off.
The reason for my low star review is how disappointed I am in Equinox's cancellation policy. As someone who was a member for over five years, I should easily be able to cancel my membership; I've given this place enough money. Instead, when I went to cancel I was told cancellations don't become effective for 45 days, information that is not available on their website or in their FAQs. (I also then found out I could have cancelled in the app / over the phone, even though everything on the website says you have to cancel in person.) I have moved out of the city and have not used the gym since moving because I can't fit it in around my commute. All Equinox is doing is nickel and diming me at the tail end of my membership, which feels like a terrible way to treat a loyal customer. I have a sour taste in my mouth over what should have been an overall positive experience.
