The ease of joining this gym is completely offset by the difficulty of trying to leave it. One can't simply stop being a member at will, you need to pay them for the privilege of stopping being their client. The terms of the membership are very confusing, and aren't consumer friendly.
This gym practices classic gym scams, making cancellation difficult. When you do decide to cancel, you MUST do so in person. Additionally, don't take their word that the cancellation is confirmed, get it in writing, and get the person to sign their name. If there's a discrepancy in the future, you need to have the name of the person whom you informed about the cancellation, otherwise there's no recourse. These rules are not written or posted anywhere prominently, and I only learned about them after paying months of fees after I thought I cancelled the membership.
Finally, there's very little recourse on any disagreement. The staff at the gym claim that there's nothing that they can do, and there's no way to speak to anyone else. The only recommendation is to fill out a web form on their website and hope for a reply, which they don't honor. There is very little respect for the customer, and their goal isn't customer satisfaction, but squeezing max value on technicalities.
If you think I'm a lone disgruntled customer, just look over all the other 1 and 2 star reviews to see that's a recurring pattern in this company. They are just like their parent company Equinox, pretending to be a quality low cost provider.
Remember, get proof for all interactions and good luck.
Update: Very surprisingly, I was contacted days after closing the account, and refunded the closing charges, as well as some of the previous monthly charges. I certainly have appreciated that a manager there took the time to investigate after I've given up, paid the ransom and left.
