Very rude staff and locker rooms are dirty. Who ever owns this gym needs to fire there staff. I once heard a staff member tell a customer she was taking too long to change in the locker room
I recall WAY BACK in the 80's (yes I am that old lol) I trained at a gym in Manchester in the UK called The Pump Station. Let's just say it was rough and basic and in the winter you could see your breath when you trained BUT you know what? Some of the top physiques that graced the bodybuilding stage trained there. My housemate and training partner at the time trained with me there and she went on to compete in the World Games and the Ms Olympia (and those familiar with bodybuilding know that's pretty big).
My point is? Well right now this Synergy has had a change of management and big things are in the pipeline but you know what? Even in its current stage of development it has something your fancy health clubs lack 'atmosphere'. Old school lifters will see it has some great equipment too and a myriad of machines for each body part and dumb bells that go up to 125 lbs.
I have seen most of the old reviews for this place and that was attributed to former management and trainers. The current crew came down from 31st Synergy and I followed them! From what i have seen the patrons are pretty serious and come in all shapes, sizes and ages and, unlike some gyms, I don't have to suffer watching people execute pointless, crazy and downright stupid exercise that can only end in injury- and brain freeze for me:)
And yes, this does remind me of that old gym in Manchester at the moment but then again I once wrote and article on that place for the British bodybuilding press and it was called 'Home Of The Champions' nuff said.
Oh and that 5th star is waiting in the wings for the changes afoot:)
They still your money. They charge you for a membership you cancel.

You definitely can't go wrong with the price. The machines were not the newest and not maintained the best, but Synergy has all the tools and enough benches to handle the crowds most of the time outside of after-work.
After a frustrating two months of attempting to work with a personal trainer, I have only met with someone a little under eight times despite paying for two sessions a week, I've been switched trainer's on twice and today when they were trying to get me to work with another trainer in the morning rather than the afternoon like I requested and paid for, I had to finally say enough is enough. On top of this, the supposed "free month of membership" when you sign up to work with a trainer has never been given to me and I have been charged each month despite being told multiple times that "this month will be free we promise". I called Monday about my refund regarding the month I was charged, and I was apologized to and reassured that by Thursday my funds would be refunded. Wellppp it's Thursday, I call this morning to ask about what happened and I was told "the woman who does this is on vacation, while she's out the 34th st woman is doing it and she is kind of lazy, let me check if she's done it.....(time elapses)... nope she hasnt, I'll just give you next month free." -_- On top of this so frustrating mess, my amazing trainer Jason had to leave because he claims the gym hasn't been paying him fair and he had gotten to his breaking point as well. So today I will be fighting for a full refund and back on the hunt for a much better gym and a great trainer. And just because I have to- I am talkikng about the E. 14th st Synergy Fitness Location. Despite the staff being very friendly and great at selling, they do not know how to operate and handle other people's finances and lack follow through of what they promise. Additionally the women's bathroom's are in terrible condition. One stall is missing a toilet and it leaks gross water that they keep covered with a towel. The "towel service" isn't reliable so I've started to bring my own because at least every other time I went it was "sorry, all of our towels are being washed". The machine's go in and out of operation and this I found across the board as I also visited the 34th st location. Overall not impressed, very frustrated and would definitely NOT recommend Synergy Fitness.
MUST READ: I was previously a member of Synergy, and I will say, they are rip offs. The manager RJ, took advantage of me, and told me that it wasn't a membership, but yet it actually was. He signed me up for Personal Training, and I never requested it. He would charge my Card without my permission. He would deny it, but I know damn well he did. When I went in my bank statement, I saw that there was a charge of $50. I got a call from my bank saying that there was several attempts to charge my card for $100.00, and it was declined. I had immediately came over to Synergy, while I was still clocked in at KFC, and I confronted RJ. I had asked RJ, if he had made the attempts, he denied it, and said that, Home office was doing it, which I knew it was a lie. I stated to him, that the only person who had my card info on file, was him, and that be cannt sit there and lie to my face. I was working next door at KFC, and he would come to my job and say "where is my money at"? It got bad to the point where I felt uncomfortable to EF work there or be at work, and I had to quit my job. I was working very hard at KFC. Because of Synergy and there shenanigans, I am paying a dent of $1,200, that I shouldn't even have to pay. DO NOT COME TO THIS GYM.
I have been a member at Synergy for almost eight years and have seen the gym change ownership several times. While the facility is decent enough and the membership prices are reasonable, almost without exception the staff is made up of scumbags, lowlifes and immoral trash. They will find any and every reason to charge you. One of the most common practices is to coerce members into signing up for personal training lessons, then have the trainer constantly be unavailable or need to reschedule, until the time comes when they inform you your sessions have 'expired' and there's nothing they can do. I have similar stories for days. Other gyms may charge more per month but it is worth the peace of mind you're not getting robbed or cheated. Avoid at all costs.
I hate to write poorly about other companies but I feel it is my civil duty to do so in this case. People should know not to give this company your credit card information. I have spent multiple hours on over 10 occasions trying to get in touch with the person responsible for charging my card after my membership had been canceled. They assured me that I was following the proper procedure in canceling and even assured me that I had canceled my membership successfully and had no outstanding balance. Months later, I'm getting calls from debt collectors.
The worst part is, the employees refuse to disclose the information of the person(s) at the company who are capable of helping me. The bottom line is: I wanted to cancel my membership and they refused to do it. They had my credit card information and charged at will. There are plenty of other companies who you are better off going to. No one should have to go through all this just to find a place to workout.

Affordable gym. Its on the bus line so its convenient to get to in bad weather. It has everything I need in a gym. Its always clean not like some other gyms. The front desk guys are cool. Josh and RJ are always helpful.
I usually never leave reviews, but I have to say my experience at Synergy was awesome, the personal trainers were extremely helpful in keeping me motivated to reach my fitness goals. The gym is well maintained and they have a great variety of equipment. They have great hours, making it possible for me to workout at all times of the day. I am very satisfied with my gym its efficient and affordable, I love it.
