Planet Fitness is the best gym for me in New York! I always step out feeling good and achieved and you see results and feel stronger right away. Super great coaches and always a great team! Music is always on point too. Love this place!

Somebody just stole cash and my master lock from a locker in the man's locker-room (12/11/2019, between 8:30 pm and 10:00 pm). By the way, I bought the master lock from the vending machine located next to the gym's reception. Very unsafe place. Be careful! A receptionist told me that I will be contacted by the administration within 24-48 hours after they review my report. Let's see if it's true. The gym itself is not bad though and very affordable (except for stealing, of course).

Value for money for sure

This gym is awesome. They are open 24 hours some days. The location is amazing. If you subscribe for a premium membership, you get a discount on some of the beverages. You can join just this club or you can join all the PF locations. I joined them all.

This gym is filthy! And the stretching room is full of dust and hair! Needs a good vacuuming and dusting. Beautiful location but management needs to step it up! The locker rooms are always filthy, trash on the floor, And flies in the shower area. I would love to manage this gym!

If you like to play with retro arcades while having some drinks then you have to check out this place! From pin ball machines to classic arcade games this place rocks!

It has gone down hill. It is not so much the equipment, but the people using the gym. They walk right in front of you when using the equipment, most do not put back their weights nor wipe-down the benches, and now many use the Smith Machine for up to 2 hours so others can't get their workout in. I made many suggestions to staff, but they say they are very limited to what they can do. Another recent problem is some "odd" guys in the locker room-One guy showers for hours while looking at other guys, another stands in front of the mirror doing his hair for over an hour. There are others as well. Very creepy-IMO. Recently they are constantly running out of paper to wipe-down equipment-only have a few spots with towels/spray-this is clearly an employee problem-it never had this problem before.

Inexpensive monthly fee is the only advantage to joining the club. Dirty equipment, paper towels laying on the floor, flamboyant clientele inappropriately showing off their naked bodies, people who have no idea about the gym etiquette, dysfunctional staff and management, who has no power at all to actually reprimand and say something to members who are out of hand. In addition the past week with heat at over 90 degrees suddenly the AC was not working. When trying to ask staff when is it getting fixed, response is: we are working on it. When no one was actually working on it. Trying to save electricity money when it's over 90 degrees inside the gym is not healthy or appropriate from management standpoint. But no one seems to care to keep things running smoothly, and keep the gym clean.
If you have other gym options around your neighborhood, I would strongly suggest to pay more, so you can actually work out in a good environment with good people around you!

Great gym if you only want to do cardio. There are approximately a thousand treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes. I never saw them more than half full. It's inadequate for weights though. Not enough free weights or cables. No bench press. It gets very cramped in the weight area. Also no towel service, but I guess you can't expect that for $10/month. I ended up at Crunch on 54th St instead.

Went in for a free trial day. Clean gym and friendly staff with locker rooms (some are in front of a security camera if you have very valuable items). No bench press or squat rack, which is kind of weird. Only a smith machine and some free weights. Also no water bottle filling station, unfortunately. Only a regular water fountain.

I love this gym, always super clean and the staff here is always very friendly no matter what time I come in 3 in the morning or 3 in the afternoon. Great job guys

I gotta say. That nasty, overpowering grape stink they have everywhere inside the 55th street location makes me want to vomit every time I walk in. Is it even safe to breathe such concentrated amounts of that nasty smell? It's so strong I can even taste it in my mouth when I leave and can smell it on my clothes. Is there any way you guys can fix this? Any way to get better air circulation in there? Any way to not use that nasty ass grape stink? It's so strong I can smell it down the street before I even walk in the lobby doors. I really hope there's something that can be done about this. I like the gym, but good lord, that smell gets old REALLY quick. Did I mention it's nauseating?

Limited machines and limited options for strength training (only two smith machines that are hardly available). Fantastic for cardio and the staff is very helpful and friendly.

It gets pretty crowded during peak hours but what do you expect. The staff is friendly and helpful. The locker-rooms are clean. Good variety of weights and machines. Definitely get some of the grape tootsie-rolls.

Usually have available machines and lockers after work around 6pm which is good. However, always seems like the a/c is barely on. So if you like to sweat a lot for your workout (and by a lot I mean head to toe drenched) then this place is for you. It is $10/$20 a month in Manhattan so outstanding value and everything is here. Except a pool.

If I could, I'd give 2.5 stars. Definitely worth the price, and this location is one of the best Planet Fitnesses in the area. Unfortunately the lock on my gym was broken off by some jerk trying to steal. When I asked the staff if it was them (just wanted to make sure) they really didn't seem to be concerned at all. They said it happens all the time. They could have cared less and sort of acted like it was my fault for locking up my stuff in their locker room (nothing was stolen, it was only my jacket inside). Pretty disappointing that they didn't even offer to replace my lock (they sell them there). Also the perks are a lie, as all of the massagers cost money but when I joined the upgraded membership they said they were free. Disappointed but I'm stuck with the membership for a year.

One of the nicest Planet Fitnesses I've ever attended. Located in a super nice building. Always clean and bright. Nice bathrooms. They have a TON carbio machines of every type. Too many in my opinion. I'd love to see a few less cardio machines to make room for some key weight training machines I think they could use like an additional guided bench press, reverse fly machine, etc.

Also, the toiletries offered are basically non-existent. They only provide body wash and it's awful. As such, I bring my own.

This planet fitness is very small and crowded. It has less weight machines than other locations. It only has 1 machine of everything, so you are always waiting. Other locations have newer and at least 2 machines of many machines. The weight machines are on top of each other as well. The AC has always been bad at this location, prepare to sweat the minute you walk in, very uncomfortable. They need to remove more cardio machines and add weight machines. Plenty of empty cardio machines. Also, some planet fitness gyms have cross fit areas, this one does not! This location is not recommended

This is one of the nicer planet fitness gyms around. Fairly new and big enough to handle the crowds. My only complaint is the showers, they need to be cleaned more often for the amount of people showering in them. Other than that this is an excellent gym.

First impression is mixed. I feel like I'm missing something as a new member. Was given a brief walk around yesterday of what the gym has by a nice guy, but I needed my checking account info to officially join, so I signed up online when I got home. Today I went to get my stuff around 11:30am and the people behind the desk weren't interested in helping out. Said I was new, was given a tag and went to the bathroom and was told to get a photo when I got back. Came back to the desk, everyone was surrounding the office door talking, was asked what I wanted even though one of the workers looking at me obviously knew. I got the photo from someone else, then the worker went right back to talking to his friends. No intro, no shirt, etc. Didn't know what the photo was for, like if I was getting another card or if it was just for them, so I waited around a second. Again, was asked what I wanted. I dunno, you tell me. Asked for the shirt, they don't do it anymore. Went to check out the massage chair, another member told me I needed a coin. Left instead of asking for one. Going back at a different hour when hopefully the tour guy can give more info of how things work. How long can you use the chair? The hydrotherapy? Is it once per visit? Once per day? How do you sign up for classes and other black card perks? I don't know. I'll be cool after a run down, but come on guys, you gotta explain things to people who have never been to the gym and make them not feel like they're bothering you. That's pretty basic.

It's a pretty decent sized gym and clean. I started going to this gym around late March. Unfortunately, I wasn't even given a tour of the gym...I had found the machines I needed on my own...which is okay for me personally. It does have its episodes of crowded times/days, but I guess in NYC, you can't escape from it.

The bad things of this gym though are 2 things so far:

1) Lack of benches to do your dumbbell or bar exercises. There's only about 6 of them lined up. I believe 2 or 3 are the adjustable benches to work your upper body (chest and shoulders). So you already know that it's tough to be able to grab the bench unless you go during dead hours. Just manage your timing to get to these.

2) No decline benches. What happened to working them decline presses for some Silver-back Gorilla action!?

Other than those, it's a nice gym overall.

Very clean gym space and equipment. Lifting area is generally busier than cardio equipment during the summer and warm weather.
