One of the best gyms I've been to. The showers, pool, men's locker room, boxing and cycling studios were all well though of. The classes are all fun and it's location is convenient. It's always clean, with lots of fresh towels and stage around to help.

switched to TMPL back in November due to its convenient location. come to realize this is a classic case of not everything that glitters is gold. its prices do not match the cleanliness and service of the gym.

It is an excellent gym.
I have been a member for years.
Like many previous reviewers have mentioned, it got a bit busier after NYSC took over the place and thus the quality got deteriorated a bit.
But I still like the place. It has a full size pool and it's better than most Equinox locations and the rate is far lower. The class instructors are pretty good too (some have left but it's NYC and people move in and move out).

This is a gym center that is charging premium rates, without premium pleasantries and administrations. For a considerable length of time, the rec center has had heated water issues. Ordinarily, it doesn't work by any stretch of the imagination. Be that as it may, when it does, it can get reproving. Of course, I comprehend structures are old, boilers break, and support can be troublesome. So, it's been a long time since the exercise center has given sufficient boiling water. As opposed to reacting quickly by fixing the issue, the executives and initiative accept that putting a sign, and sending messages to its individuals requesting understanding will take care of the issue.

A lot of creepy, mentally unstable members. Watch out for meth heads, stalkers, and thieves! The gym has lots of maintenance issues. They also had a member that stabbed his roommate 16x across the street from the gym. I can't wait until my contract ends. Not luxury gym whatsoever. Join at your own risk.

I signed up for the 10 day free trial and was told by Jane that I "could call or email anytime" which turned out not to be true. When I called to cancel my free trial I was told I could NOT do it over the phone. Then they charged me $159 for the entire month on top of a $10 cancelation fee anyway. Definitely not worth the annual fee of $69 plus $159/month for a place w falling apart equipment and lockers, dirty showers and steam room, class instructors that don't show up, and cheap shampoo refills put into fancy name brand bottles. It's obvious the new management doesn't care for their members.

Just run, worst Gym ever. Hands down. They will treat you great to get you to join, but thats where it ends.

Join a gym like Equinox if you want upscale otherwise stay away from this place at all cost!

They will charge you even if you're not a member. Literally this place only cares about the money and not the customer. Hell Planet Fitness is a step up from this place.

For the price they charge there should be no mold in the showers and the toilets should be spotless..

Save your money, You've been warned!!

Great equipment
Great staff
Awesome lighting and decor
Great eye candy/inspiration

Wet areas not well designed - ceiling above showers falling apart and fixtures leaky. Sauna and steam room a long way from locker room on a slippery wet concrete floor. Clientele are the kind that just drop towels everywhere and expect the staff to deal, but they can't keep up so the locker room always looks rather ghetto.

I joined TMPL in December and all winter there were issues with their hot water whoch never got fixed. Now that summer has come around, the air conditioning in the locker room has issues. It has not been working for more than a month now and every time I check when it would be resolved no one has any answers. Seems like there is always one issue or the other with this place.

Tried this gym using a guest pass this week. Not worth joining. For 165/mth?! Dirty throughout the gym. The locker room was nasty. Cycling class was boring. Amazing projector but horrible instructor and only 1/3 of the bikes were occupied. Crazy night time members. It's like being surrounded by a bunch of creepy mentally unstable, paranoid Blair witch project wannabes. That like HELL F@#$ING NO to joining. Decided to join Planet fitness and stay with Cross fit...the places with normal people.

As most of the other reviewers have noted, things started going downhill after it got acquired. I have worked out in NYSC before and I could appreciate the references that some of the members have noted. The facilities are ill-maintained and we get regular email updates that certain areas (i.e. Pool, hot water) are "under maintenance". That is not how a gym should be run. David should know better.

Also, the management is terrible. After cancelling my membership and attempting to get a refund (I did the prepayment plan), the accounting team/management is giving me the go-around move and pushing the blame onto the "new system". It has been a month plus. That is no way to treat anyone let alone an ex-customer.

I wanted to go to this gym but $160 price tag and the snobby attitude of the sales rep turned me off. The gym is decent but if you are looking for weights, it is average to small in size. The swimming pool is nice and so is the music but for me, it's about having a wide selection and modern weight lifting equipment. At $160 and a zero negotiation technique, they will not be awarded my money. Go with Crunch--you're better off.

Update. Has become a lot more crowded and not as clean in recent months. Still nice staff and good class instructors.

I think this is one of the nicest gyms that I've been a member of. They have a large number of weights and strength training equipment. Cardio machines are a bit on the basic side, with elliptical, stairs, treadmill, rowing, and stationary bikes, but they do their job. The salt water pool is kept at a nice warm temperature. There is definitely some chlorine in the water (I can smell it) but it's much less than chlorine-only pools. I take some classes, and the instructors I'm familiar with are all very fit and know what they are doing. I really appreciate that the maintenance people are always cleaning everything and replenishing the towel supply. The whole atmosphere is great and I enjoy working out here.

TMPL is the worst gym ever!! What you see is what you get...bait&switch poor car salesman, dirty showers and toilets, weird vibes from members, cheap toiletries that are not oribe (DISHONEST GYM! STUFF THEY USE ARE ACTUALLY SPA VIVENDUS), thieves, queenie troublemakers, crackheads, meth heads, attitude biatches, roid up junkies, escorts, normal looking extroverted guys using & distributing party supplies aka drugs at the gym, etc. Classes suck! Amateur instructors. That's why classes are mostly half-full. Walk a few blocks and join Lifetime Athletic on w42nd and 11th. Clean with a good vibe.

Updated equipment makes this gym great. The front desk staff are generally nice. Personal trainers leave you alone. Minus 4-stars >> members. (a) lots of lies and drama from psychopaths to stir the pot. People's professional reputation are at risk here. This is not a reality tv show! Spreading fake news of innocent members as thieves, druggies, stalkers, creepers, poor, uneducated, weirdo, prostitutes, racists etc are disgusting! (b) If members want to be left alone, don't pursue them with changing your schedule to match theirs; following them around the gym, locker room, steam room, and elsewhere for weeks; and getting emotional or turning the table to make them out as a stalker after getting a rejection! There's a reason those members may react with further distancing, snapping at you, unresponsive, keeping to themselves or saying no further than a simple "hi". You might look normal, act normal with friends at the gym, & portrayed by others as normal...but you are a stalker...you need professional help to help guide you in the right direction. My friend empathizes your situation. He believes you are a very good, educated, kind and thoughtful person with a big heart. He apologizes for snapping & giving you the cold shoulder. He forgives you for your behavior & also asks for your forgiveness. It's time for you to move on! Concentrate on your career, your health and finding that special guy in your life. (c) A journalist must act with integrity and not be the subject of creating news! One journalist clearly doesn't get it! Just saying you're a journalist is like me saying I'm God. Prove that your gossips for months are the truth with facts! I have no problem posting videos on your employer's twitter and facebook pages and asking them to prove your gossips. It's disgusting how you ruin another member's reputation with lies like stories of sexual assault, rape, molestation, stalking, etc. Maybe it might be the headline news in the syndicated daytime show you work for. The show headline might be "One of our staff is a known gossip queen and works out at tmpl. We are aware of cell phone videos on our Twitter and Facebook pages. Our response is..." FYI... My friends and I love recording our workouts. It might incidentally record surrounding areas and conversations as well. You might not know they are my friends. You might not know we share our workout videos. You might not know we know the fake gossips and lies you've told about our friends and others. You might be someone your employer believes as trustworthy. But these videos would show you're nothing more than a liar, fraudster, and pathetic. (d) Creating a false narrative that a guy must be in the closet, discreet, married, or a Trump supporter because he's unresponsive to and rejects your sexual offers ARE DISGUSTING! (e) A guy saying "hi" or "how many sets you have left" doesn't mean he wants to sleep with you. There's no harm in smiling and saying "hi" or "I have 2 or 3 sets left" or "would you like to work in between sets". It's absolutely disgusting these guys would snap, roll their eyes, or run to their friends and say a creeper or weirdo was trying to hit them up. You're not as handsome as you think you are. I spent 6 years as a runway male model and have done shows in Milan, London, New York, Tokyo, and Los Angeles. So I know and have seen pretty. This pretty white boy treats people with kindness because I never know who's standing in front of or next to me! I don't treat people with disrespect like these pathetic wannabes. If you want to make it in modeling, then act like a respectful human being!

Crappy Service. Rude Staff. Unstable psychotic weirdos on drugs or off their antipsychotics. Ugly wannabe actors and models. Prostitutes. Steroid freaks. Thieves. Leaky ceilings. Dirty showers, pool, steam room and sauna. Luxury? More like a step up from a dirty NYSC... take your hard earned money elsewhere.

I highly recommend NOT to join TMPL. The Attorney General's Consumer Affairs Office should investigate the fraudulent and deceptive business practices. In fact, many dissatisfied members can file a lawsuit to null and void their current membership contract. The sales manager, Jane, is a bonafide poor saleswoman. The lies that come out of her mouth are disgusting! 10 out of 10 members will pay different monthly membership prices from 100-175. SHADY SHADY SHADY! You also have the rude and obnoxious personal trainers with the know-it-all mentality & I don't give a f@#$ if you want to use the equipment. The most annoying one is a middle aged, mentally unstable trainer who has nothing better to do than gossip, whine, b@#$h & spread fake news every second of the day. He has this weird me, me, me victim mentality and everyone is horrible. Members are the awkward types. A few are clearly high on meth, crack or both. One old guy is always going through withdrawal symptoms. You also encounter the psychopaths talking loudly to themselves. Another is a nurse who should be reported to the Hospital and State for potentially violating HIPAA laws. He's either trying really hard to impress guys with his gossips of patients or being stupid. The shower stalls are disgusting! Tiles are falling apart. Shower amenities are NOT the brand they advertised. Fake fake reviews. Reviews with 3 stars and fewer are real. Others with 5 stars are PAID reviews. Yes. There's a paid service available to write fake 5 star reviews. There's also fake reviews from current and past employees pretending to be members lol

At first sight the gym looks great. After a few days you notice that someone hasn't properly cleaned the showers for weeks as slime is starting to accumulate under your feet. The showers and the entire mens locker room smells like mold.

The employees and daytime front desk associate is rude and unempathetic to the fact that they are dealing with another human and are more focused on the persona they want to project in line with TMPL gym's pretentious image with no substance to back it up. The shampoo and body products are not the brand that is labeled on the dispensers.

Coming in at merely the same price (actually more) than one Equinox location I would highly reccomend going there. I signed up and was offered a promotion that was not honored. I attempted to call the front desk and emailed the manager who managed to answer me after 6 days and then no reply after two weeks of attempting to get in contact for being wrongfully charged. I was signed up over the phone and no one made me aware of the cancellation policy. Town Sports International is no competition and there is NO CUSTOMER service in this place. Not to mention the 98% gay population that judge others and don't even know how to be loving kind human beings. That is what they call their "vibes" that they charge 170 a month for.

This gym is amazing.

The only gym in Manhattan that I've found worthwhile for people that are serious about fitness.

I did have trouble with the music volume one night but it was beyond satisfactorily resolved.

Well equipped, all new, trendy gym. Loud music and dark lighting give it an energetic club vibe. Must check out the huge saltwater pool.

Multi-level gym with plenty of weights, cardio equipment, and swimming pool. There's also a spin room and a separate room for group classes. Friendly staff and knowledgeable personal trainers.
