Summary: Tricia is arrogant and talks about students behind their back.
Long story:
My first impression of the studio was OK. The instructor (Tricia, who is also the owner I believe) was there to greet my mother and I. We were first timers to this studio but not new to yoga.
I went ahead and let her know about my mother's knee injury, to which she asked "Are you an instructor?" I am actually finishing my yoga certification this year, and was flattered and impressed that she picked up on it.
Bikram is not my favorite yoga. In fact, I quite hate it. I go because it is good to push the body to sweat and stretch to that level. I didn't particularly enjoy the class for that reason, which is completely not Tricia's fault. Bikram teachers teach from a script, so Tricia recited almost the exact same thing u get from every other Bikram class. However, while we were all in a lying down posture (face down), I readjusted and caught Tricia admiring herself in the mirror. I thought that was a little strange for someone who's there to lead us on a journey.
Here's the good (bad) part. After class, Tricia decided to start a conversation with my mom. She sent my mom an email afterwards, thanking her for coming. I did not get an email, so I assume this was not an auto-generated thing. My mom replied politely. Tricia then proceeds to comment on ME. To my mother. Sharing some very personal details that she "could see" in me, both positive and negative. And then she tells my mom that she wants to teach me yoga.
Here's my thing: yoga is sacred. It is personal. Any emotional stuff you pick up from a student is to be kept private. Regardless of her good intentions, I'm extremely offended that my spiritual journey was discussed with anyone but me! And worse, she emailed my mother.
As an aspiring yoga professional, this has taught me the sensitivity we must hold towards each other in the yoga space. Tricia, I really hope you make better decisions regarding your students privacy in the future. Had you truly been so concerned and helpful, I would've received an email from you saying so. I never did.
