I completed the KMA 6-week challenge, and was able to successfully complete it losing 6.7% body fat. The facilities are awesome, the instructors are all amazing experts, and you get a lot of support from the team and fellow members!

NOTE: They had advertised the 6-week challenge as a free challenge - this is not the case. You pay $600 up front, and they give you a goal that you must achieve in order to get the money back (which is put towards future memberships/training). Overall, I was very happy because I met my goal and it changed my mindset.

They are very friendly and even tho I'm just starting they are going out their way to answer any questions I may have and assist me anyway the can. It's terrifying trying new things but the teams strength and dedication makes me believe that there is a silver lining at the end of all this which makes me excited and gives me the extra push to put one foot in front of the other.

Everyone at the front desk is always wonderful, the instructors are amazing and I love the classes. I come out worn out, but happy and with a sense of accomplishment. To top it off our nutritionist Arielle is always very fast and responsive, and fabulous, like everybody at the academy :-).

Krav Maga academy and the 6-week challenge they offer for beginners has rejuvenated my energy, self confidence and general feeling of health. It is a fun, interactive way to become more engaged via a robust structure of classes, nutrition advice and friendly instructors. Every day you are greeted with friendly smiles, laughs and great workouts. The have designed a course for any age, body shape, agility level or energy level. If you are on the fence or nervous about the commitment, give the class a try or just stop by and talk to anyone there; you will not be disappointed!!

Going to give an honest review. I spent about 6 months here.

Pros:
The instructors are really good for the most part. I really liked Sherman's classes in particular. Part of the reason I cancelled was my schedule just couldn't align with his class anymore. But all the instructors are very legitimate.

Equipment has gotten a lot better since the day I joined.

6 week challenge helped me get down to my goal weight.

Cons:

6 week challenge is still a marketing tactic. You pay the $600 up front, they offer to give it back at the end if you hit your goal. When you do, then they tell you they'll put it towards your membership and you get locked into a lower rate and will keep working on your goals. Unfortunately no one really followed up with me once my 6 weeks were over.

Crowded classes were the main reason I left to be honest. I get we're in NYC, but I still expect to not have someone right on top of me, especially at over $200 a month. It's just too difficult to get the instruction to improve or space to move comfortably when you have classes that size.

Leading to my next point: it's just not great bang for the buck in my opinion. At over $200 a month I could be going to Equinox for like $10 more. They have working private showers and a ton of classes as well and you're not on top of another person.

Bottom line: Classes were good until they got too crowded. And for the price, it's just not enough bang for the buck for me to keep going. That being said the instructors are good and the equipment is a lot better. So it's a mixed bag, but I wanted to leave an honest review for people to decide without having to decide with all the sales tactics.

Haven't been there

I'm an athlete. For me is important that I'm challenged. The class must be focused on safety, speed, cardio, strength, technique and most of all instructors energy and professionalism is crucial.
Thank you for getting all of that in Sherman's class plus his way of teaching brings more joy to the challenge.

My time with Krav Maga was amazing, it was more than a workout class. It became a community. I joined the 6 week program and had a goal to lose 6% body fat. I'm a runner so I needed to tone, that's why I was given a body fat percentage goal instead of a pound goal.

The support was constant throughout the process from an accountability coach perspective. It's hard to pinpoint my favorite part of the experience. I made plenty of new friends in the classes and met really cool people. The instructors are PHENOMINAL and I plan to keep popping into Krav Maga classes because I would miss them too much if I didn't.

As for the workouts, I could dread going to class cause I was just not in the mood to workout, but the instructors would change that in the first two minutes of a very high intensity workout. They get your blood pumping and you get so high on the energy you can't help but smile (unless you're in Sherman's class as he only allows grunts and faces of hard work lol). I also learned so much in a mater of self defense. Ive taken many a kickboxing class, and this is something else. This prepares you for real stuff.

I have nothing but amazing things to say about Krav Maga. Theyre going through some construction right now due to growth but don't let the appearance shy you away, they make magic down there.

I love Krav Maga academy! I signed up for Kma membership after unlimited classpass ended. Here are the seven reasons why kma is the best decision I ever made.

1. I chose Kma over other Krav Maga gyms because the workout is intense and there are real padwork/contact in a safety-first environment. If you like to sweat and push yourself to the limit - this place is for you.

2. Kma offers total mind and body conditioning - as classes start with heart pounding warm-up, follow by punches/kicks against pads. I love hitting and kicking pads- as it definitely helps relieve stress after a long day at work!

3.I prefer Kma over other marital arts because it is practical in the streets of nyc. Every class, I learn a new defense against common attacks (bear hugs, chokes, mount) and the repetition/aggression drills definitely help with muscle memory. As a petite 5 feet girl- I am confident that I can take out a much bigger attacker by using leverage instead of strength and hitting him where it counts (aka soft spots). I learned to choke someone out, and can defend against knife attack (caveat - this is level two and special seminar techniques).

4.All the instructors are all top notch and classes are consistently amazing, fun, and safe - Matan, Sherman, Erika, Omri, Jay, Grace, Rich, Erika, Viktoria. My first few class was a bit intimidating, and the instructors made sure 'newbie me' was paired up with more experience students. Everybody was happy to help, and I met a lot of new friends through kma. I have trained at Kma for over a year in both level 1 and ground, and am inspired to ' give back' to help out new students.

5. Thanks to the diverse class offering and special seminars, I can see myself there for the next decade without getting bored. I have advanced to level two/three with Jay/Omri and sparring with Erika/Sherman and am still learning new techniques and getting stronger every day.

6. Instructors emphasizes safety first, and I have not been injured - even sparring with much bigger opponent. Also, I have never gotten any ' infection' - as Kma is cleaned twice a day and pads/gloves are sprayed down thoroughly.

7. The front desk team are friendly, helpful, and flexible! And they remember your names! Shout out to Ryan, Steven, Katrina, and Emily!

I encourage you to give this place a try - as it has changed my life for the better. with friends, family, and kids -for a fun bonding experience. Kma is opening a new 8,000 square foot facility later this year, so this is a good time to get in early.

Hope this review is helpful - and see you in class!

My first visit will be tomorrow 3/12/18 God willing once I finish my overnight shift. I already know how awesome the gym is by the excitement I get from the thrill of being a security professional purposely combining the skills necessary to perform the secrets of my craft as a soldier.

I've been going to KMA for a year. Besides enjoying the empowerment that comes with Krav Maga (and workout) - the culture of KMA is what makes those "I'm too tired/lazy to go to class"- days slim to none.

KMA has a welcoming culture, from the front desk employees, instructors and peers. One thing I noticed since day 1, as a new comer - vets were eager to be supportive in my practice and they continue to do so to this day! I now am eager to help new comers to ensure they have the same experience that keeps me going to KMA.

Incredible instructors best in the city! Staff is super helpful and cheerful! Best work out of my life. I have improved my physical fitness tremendously in just a few short months all the while learning the most useful and practical self-defense. There is nothing out there like these classes! I recommend it to all ages and genders!

Nice facility, and the staff always remembers you. Buuuut....I have to say, they aren't personal about the training at all. If you're a beginner, you're better off going somewhere where you'll get more attention initially (then train in between hardcore lessons at KMA)

I've been a student here since 2011 on and off, and I really enjoy everything it offers. As others have said, the workout is fantastic. I play soccer and volleyball multiple times a week, but when I first started the classes, I really felt challenged. After a few weeks, I noticed a big difference in my game.

The instructors are all great. There are a lot of places where one or two instructors are great, but the rest are only so-so. Not the case here at all. I truly enjoy learning from all of them, and while they all have slightly different styles, I would be genuinely psyched to see any one of them start the class. And this extends to all of the staff there as well, who always make you feel welcome and appreciated.

The format of the classes is such that whether its your first class or your 1,000th, you are challenged without being overwhelmed. Huge focus on real-life scenarios, and the skills all build on one another so you'll have quite the portfolio of strategies and skills over time.

Other students are a big part of the draw for me - there really is a nice community that builds up around classes. The more experienced students help along the newer ones, and people are generally chill and fun to be around, which makes classes even more fun.

All in all, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. I really love it and would encourage absolutely anybody to give it a try. If you like a challenging workout that has real world applications and benefits, and you like spending time with dedicated, fun people, you will love it, too!

I've tried traditional gyms, different classes and countless fitness Groupons but none have worked until I came to Krav Maga Academy. Not only do you get an amazing workout but you come out enriched with practical skills for your everyday life. You leave feeling stronger and more confident after each class.

Whether you're a seasoned martial artist or just someone looking for a great workout, KMA has classes that cater to every level. They have amazing, legit, really helpful instructors that make sure that you come away with the right skills.

If you haven't tried it, it's definitely worth the visit.

I'm on my third year in the Academy. Training here becomes almost an addiction. Studio is kept clean and equipment is constantly upgraded. Instructors push you physically and mentally, while teaching no-nonsense moves and fight tactics. People that last here enjoy hard workouts, countless bruises and a sense of true camaraderie. If you like to be surrounded by like-minded people and if you like to see what you can really do at your 100%, then this is the place for you.

These classes are the best thing I have ever done for myself. You leave feeling empowered and more confident than when you walked in. The instructors are professional and truly WANT to help you learn. You can tell that they have passion in what they teach which makes all the difference for a student trying to learn. There is no judging when you walk in, they just accept you for you regardless of your fitness level or background in Krav Maga. I whole-heartedly recommend this to anyone looking to better themselves and have fun in the process!!!
