The gym is really nice but the classes are only decent. Horrible experience with one of the teachers Calvin Wiley. He thinks he knows then my doctors about how to safely workout.

Formerly a David Barton gym. One has the feeling that they're going to a nightclub. A very fancy one, indeed. Immaculately clean. Has four wonderful floors for exercising.

Really like the cycling class and the massage chairs. Love the decor and the staff is super sweet.

Great fitness center with tons of weights and machines. Spacious and the athletes get it and are polite and work in. Could use some deep cleaning!

Astor place is definitely a step up! Not really big is it spacious, but I am always able to use whatever equipment I need. Also, just enough mirrors to reflect on your progress. The 2 massage chairs are a blessing for before or after workouts to get your muscles warm and loosened up!

I would pay very close attention to the previous reviews about how difficult it is to cancel successfully. I didn't and I deeply, deeply regret it. I informed the staff I would be cancelling weeks before moving and was told everything would be taken care of. Months go by with no charges to my account and no word from NYSC. All of a sudden I was hit with over $350 of charges from this gym and told my cancellation request never happened. I would have to cancel again with 45 day notice (costing another $220). Oh and they used this convenient interim period to increase their prices as well. I complained to the organization and was faced with a very apathetic general manager who was more interested in leveraging the legal verbiage of my contract than hearing me out or providing me with any meaningful explanation as to why I was being charged. I signed up for this gym because it was cheaper and it ended up being considerably more expensive than the equinox down the street. No wonder their stock is down 90% this year. Abusive business practices. Please don't make my mistake and stay away.

The gym itself is pretty nice, but their membership services border on a scam. I had a membership where I was supposed to be able to cancel anytime according to the sales rep. When I tried to cancel it turned out there was a 30-day notice. But even worse, they apply the 30-day notice not from the day that you cancel, but from the day that they decide to process your cancellation form! So essentially you have no power over when you want to cancel, since it depends on when they decide to process the form.

Since I don't live in NYC - this is my go to gym to drop into every 6 weeks. The gym itself is aesthetically pleasing, the women's locker room is spacious and clean with a blow dry bar which I think is genius.
Plentiful cardio equipment and proper equipment to squat, bench and deadlift (which is what I mainly do) and a lot of machines for accessory work. But the main difference that sets this gym apart from the many fitness facilities in the city is the front desk staff in the early morning (opening). Each time I'm greeted by Erica and she's super friendly and personable and now that I have gotten to know her, coming to this gym feels like coming home. I just wished they were opened earlier on Saturday and Sunday (as 5:30am is my preferred time to train any day of the week). Thank you Erica for all that you do!

Left because it was too unprofessional (no one at the front desk many times, front desk too busy chatting to check people in right away, being asked to leave 5 minutes before closing, among other things I don't want to type out) as well as having multiple issues with billing (you will be overcharged if you are not careful). I liked this gym because it was so empty, but you find out that it is empty for a reason. The location and equipment are great and at a price point are positioned to capture people looking for a premium experience while the staff and service are very mass market to below. It's a shame. Julie was the lone exception.

Great gym! Lighting in the gym is dim (almost like a club) and actually motivates you to work out harder. All the equipment is up to date; lots of space and never a line for any machine during the time I go. Not to mention the eucalyptus-scented chilled towels, which are refreshing after a workout. The manager, Julie, is incredibly helpful and kind as well.

Very unique NYSC. It has a live DJ and massage chairs. Full weight area and top of the line cardio machines. Huge steam room too.

Good stuff. Machines not super modern buy good enough for hard workout. Club feeling atmosphere. Special thanks for Antony - very professional trainer.

Tried out the trial for a week; gym was fine but had to cancel for other reasons. Guy at front desk told me it will be handled but a week later I got charged an annual fee of 69.99 even though they promised to fees after cancellation of the trial. I have gone twice since getting charged to get it handled but everyone seems to not care and won't give my money back. Not only that, I just got charged a monthly fee of 120.00 which obviously shows me that my account never got cancelled and they are still ignoring me.
Would never recommend anyone to come here due to the awful staff.

Best gym I've been to thus far! For me anyway.... Very spacious, very versatile with lots of the latest equipment. Separate area for trainers on first floor(which i hope they continue to use instead of clogging up the 2nd floor X fit section). I've been to Equinox, Ballys, 24/7 Fitness, L.A. Fitness and countless other gyms and in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn . If your willing to pay for an upscale gym itself, you will get what you pay for.

Really really would NOT recommend getting a membership here. I signed up with someone on the staff telling me there's a beautiful cycling studio downstairs and a ton of classes and that was completely untrue! There's no cycling studio at all, unless you'd like to sign up for Cyc and pay $30 a class.... Also, there's only one studio for classes, unless you want to pay for the Barry's-like training on mid-level.

Not only that, but when I cancelled my membership I was charged the next month. I've emailed NYSC and added a note on their website requesting my money back, and I've been waiting a week for a response!

Advice: Don't get drawn in by the cool aesthetic of the gym.

Great time at this location! I loved the fact they had a live DJ on staff and the ambience felt right so I made the jump coming from a basic gym. I'm actually more motivated to workout now! Thank you to all the staff that make my visit special. Blessings!

--- UPDATED 01/31/2018 ---

I have contacted with them and they "agreed" to refund. BUT after one month, I have not received the refund and they never got me back on email!

Multiple unauthorized charges on my credit card, $240. I have accessed this gym for many times, either for classes or regular work outs. On 12/15 there was a $120 on me at one time. On 12/18 the following Monday, it's the first time they told me there was a new rule saying an extra charge $20 per access and that $120 was for the previous few accesses!

I think they can do a much better job to tell me the new rule about the extra charge before the $120 happened instead of just silently putting up a small notice in the front desk under a dim light!!

And today, I got charged again for the same amount $120! For what?? I have NOT visited this gym site since 12/18!!! Why would I???

When it opened I had no idea that it was an Elite location or that such a program existed. I went for about 2 weeks and really enjoyed the location with my passport membership. Then, early one Saturday morning, I walked in, while the gym was relatively empty, and was very rudely informed by the front desk that my membership level doesn't cover this location and that the people who had been letting me in for the last two weeks hadn't done their job properly. I wasn't even given more detail about the Elite membership option (I've since been able to find information on their website and it's definitely not worth it). It was a very strange experience and one that nearly made me leave NYSC and join another gym. Ultimately, I love the Ave A, Mercer & Irving locations so I'm over it, but this newly founded flagship location nearly pushed me away.

I am a member of the Avenue A club. On weekend nights, occasionally I need to workout after Ave A is closed. Upon my 2nd time visiting the St. Marks branch, I was callously informed by Jasmine that I could not use this branch due to a sign put up by management. I was counting on this Sat. night workout for much needed stress relief from my job. I had been looking forward to it all day.
The first time I went to St. Marks on a Sat. night, it was almost empty. (3 people at most were there.) I was not informed on that first night that I was allowed only one visit to this particular gym, though my membership entitles me to go to all NY Sports club venues. I do not plan to go to St. Marks regularly. I do not think it is "ALL THAT". It is quite dark.
In sum, this rude, senatorial (non-sympathetic) boot from Jasmine has made me reconsider my membership at NY Sports Club. The Avenue A gym people and space are really nice. However if this is the attitude of management, that with no notice to my email, and just a sign (at a place I never go to and couldn't see without my reading glasses) is cause for me to be barred entrance at my own gym, time to switch companies. I wonder if NY Sports Club considers customer care at all?
To see the ratings on Yelp, one wouldn't think so. I will leave my membership name at the desk of Avenue A gym should anyone from NY Sports club want to contact me regarding this issue. Still incensed.
GOOD LUCK...

I love the location. Staff is decent. Gym is always clean and the machines are great. Only issue I have is for the amount that I pay a month, there is a fee to bring a guest. 1 guest should be free and if you bring more than 1 then there should be a fee.

i do not normally go to this location but i wanted to come here for the 1:30 body pump class. i even called ahead of time to make sure there was still room and the employee said there was. i checked in, got a card. i go to the studio, and there is no one there. it turns out there was a "glitch" and the class was at 12:30. on the computer, and the employees there thought it was a 1:30. i ended up working out on my own, but i could have saved a lot of time and done that at a location that's a ten minute walk from my place, instead of taking the a 30+ minute train ride. it's a nice facility, but i would just advise people to somehow triple check that there really is a class going on.

Fantastic amenities. Lots of space and high end equipment.Love the zinee area with rogue rigs, sleds, battling ropes, kettle bells and slam balls. You don't have to pay extra to use this space or equipment. Hydro massage chairs are included in membership. There's even a blow out bar in the Ladies which makes it easy to workout before work. Staff are super friendly and helpful.
