Staff is friendly. Clean and punctual classes. The format of open classes are at wide range though it is on the classic side.

Different teachers all the time, so you will have to explore who would you like the best.

They advertise the vegan lunch and dinner at the center as they smell delicious!!!!!

An amazing place to practice yoga! Both physically and philosophically. So good! I'm a forever devotee.

This is a wonderful yoga community. The hatha yoga classes are enjoyable and leave me feeling a deep sense of inner peace. I also enjoy attending the satsangs. It's traditional yoga the way it's meant to be!

Sivananda Yoga Center is more than just a yoga center - it's a community, a home away from home. Sivananda Yoga Center NYC changed my life in such a positive direction. The authenticity and the depth of the Sivananda yoga practice (for body, mind, & soul) are what I appreciate most about this practice.

This is a wonderful place to practice traditional hatha yoga. I had been doing yoga for 10 years and felt that my practice had really stagnated. Then I went to a Sivananda class and things opened up for me that had never been accessible before. The center is a part of an international organization with a rich lineage of teachers passing down the traditions of ancient India. At Sivananda you can not only become a master of your body, but also a master of your mind. They teach you the real yoga, of which the physical practice of yoga is only a part. I've been to the centers in NYC and SF as well as the ashrams in the Catskills and The Bahamas. It's an amazing community of spiritual seekers looking to improve themselves. I'm so lucky to have found Sivananda!

I have been going to the Sivananda Yoga Center for some time now. This is really a wonderful studio with great teachers. Its ran purely by volunteers which was very inspiring to me when I found out how dedicated everyone was. It's in the middle of Chelsea but once you walk in you totally forget you're in NYC! Quiet and serene energy. I came here at a time where I really needed to heal and bring spirituality into my life and this was a perfect fit. They offer many courses on Yoga, meditation and philosophy so I really recommend this for people looking to dive deep into their yoga practice. There's also a Satsanga twice per week!

I really didn't want to write this review as I love the intention of a centre like this- however it was the worst experience I've ever had in my 8 years of doing yoga thanks to the Spanish girl at reception with curly light brown hair.

We ran into each other outside, she saw my yoga mat and gave zero acknowledgement. Then I said hi to her and she responded, we went through the motions of filling out forms, etc.

As it was my first time here I was pretty daunted and she did not offer to show me to where I needed to go and simply resumed gossiping in Spanish with a guy who was there.

As a result, I waited for ages feeling confused in the wrong studio (there are many) and when I finally realised I had to rush into the new class late and all flustered.

The teacher for the class was nice enough but could have been a little more supportive rather than lecturing and in the end I decided to leave as it was clearly not happening that day.

I went down to get my things and the receptionist was gossiping on the phone on a personal call, which she later denied - although I highly doubt you can just hang up right away on someone if it's a business call.

She asked me what was wrong and I told her she could have shown me around as I went to the wrong room. She then told me "Everyone manages to get the right room, how could you not get it?" and then "I can't leave the desk, I'm the only one here" (well, I made a point to come early when there was no-one else waiting so you could take 1 MINUTE to show me in a building with 3 levels!)

When I pointed out that she did not even say sorry or admit responsibility for her mistake, she went into the mode of "I'm sorry, but what do you want me to do?" I left in tears and sarcastically thanked her for not even bothering to refund my money, to which she GRUNTED AT ME.

Never coming here again. And I'm pretty sure Sivanandaji would have been mortified that his legacy is being abused like this.

Great yoga center with great vibe. Relaxing and energizing yoga classes and many other yoga philosophy, meditation classes. Great location and good price.

My experience at this center was wonderful. Teachers are very patient and teaching proper posture and breathing is key. I highly recommend this center to anyone from beginners to advanced. Ample classes available to fit most schedules. And the facility smells like oatmeal cookies to me. They also have a kitchen where they teach how to cook healthy, nutritious and delicious vegetarian meals. Always ready to visit there..Haha.
I moved to Long Island and I wish I could find a place like that one here. Highly recommend it.

Classes are good. Classical Hatha yoga. However, people working at the reception are horrible. I recently purchased a three month unlimited classes and specifically asked if this covers advanced class as well which the lady at the reception said it does. When I tried to sign up for the advanced class I was told that I have to pay additional $8 and the unlimited classes does not include advanced classes. On top of this she examined my membership for minutes as if I'm some sort of fraud! It is unfortunate that the people running the reception are misinformed about their own pricing and policy which takes away from the wonderful classes they have. I checked the website and it does not mention anything about not including advanced class. Update your website and train your receptionists.

Nice atmosphere, friendly reception, friendly yogis attending, when i was there the Rishikesh order was taught. I know this but would otherwise not have been able to follow because the teacher spoke very quietly sometimes even "lame". 12 $ to drop in. I would go again, when in NYC.

I've started practicing yoga in 1998. In 1999 I moved to NYC and I had tried different places, types of yoga and methodologies. By far Sivananda is the best one for me, because it encompasses everything. The 5 points: exercise, breathing, relaxation, diet and meditation/positive thinking. Starting to practice Sivananda, it was a turning point in my life. I'm extremely grateful for it.
The center in NYC is amazing. Nice classrooms, great atmosphere, excellent teachers.
On Sundays there's a yoga class at 4:00 pm and the satsang at 6:00 pm; meditation, mantras and a lecture. After the satsang everyone gets together.
It's definitely an open hearted place, a family, home away from home.

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center above all is a spiritual home. The teachers are trained with very consistent integrity, which allows for quite a distinctive experience. Also, teachings on all aspects of Yoga are offered. This is a true treasure.
