Convenient, good equipment, bare bones, nice staff.
I just moved to NY from out of state for graduate school. I have been a member of a gym for nearly 10 yrs. I was looking for something close to my home and came across the location at 8515 4th. I went online and saw several options for membership which is fine. I was concerned about signing a new contract before I had a good day or two to try the place out. I did see there was an option for a 3 day free trial. I read through the fine print which states that a valid ID is required as well as attending the typical sales pitch and tour. I printed the emailed receipt and had my "VALID ID" and presented the documents to the attendant at the counter. I was quickly denied the trial. This seemed very odd as most businesses try to put the best foot forward. I inquired as to why my free pass was being denied. The attendant claimed that it was because my ID wasn't from Brooklyn. I explained that I was a student transplant and I wouldn't be getting a Brooklyn ID as I maintain residence in another state. He went on to say that it was because tourist come in over holidays and use the gym for free and leave. Today wasn't a holiday and I mentioned that I could provide a "VALID PROGRAM ID". No such luck. Confused I went back and checked the terms of use for the free 3 day trial and all it asks for is a valid ID. It does not clarify what a valid ID is. I was offered a 1 day trial for $10, which at this point in my experience was a no go! I was also offered a 6 month trial at $149 however the price on their website was $129. For me personally there were too many red flags to made any financial commitment.

A decent no-frills fitness club with very affordable rates. Loads of equipment is available. If you know your routine, and dont mind the absence of the usual extras, you will like it. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere relaxed and easy. I personally love it! Give it a try, you wont be sorry.

Horrible management and poor customer service!!!Me and my wife put 300 usd for membership and they told us we have couple days for money refund if we change minds, my job shift change and i tried to get money back, never happend nobody ever picked up phones and in gym told us they dont have anything with this but they took money!!!Just horrible!!stay away!!!
Someone from dolphin is spamming the area with flyers and glossed business cards. The glossed cards are sticking to windshields in this heat and the streets/sidewalks are littered with their flyers. A little respect for your neighbors and community would be appreciated.
This place is ok if you want a good workout but very noisey. I have seen a few people who brought earplugs in with them. Most of the time people are dropping the weights like they don't care. Most of the time some people are just yelling for no reason. Only the real bodybuilders are silent and kind. The Staff is very polite and nice but they don't do anything about the people who are yelling or starting a fight to see who is stronger. They have Labels around the gym but people just don't care about them. The label says that if you slam the weight on the floor your membership will be deleted. These people who drop the weights just don't care. They want to make lots of noise. Otherwise it is a good place to get a workout.
Friendly staff, has a comfortable vibe amongst the members, has the essential equipment for a good workout if you know what you're doing
The price justifies everything. It's definitely beat up and a bit run down but it's not dirty. It has all the basic necessities to get a good workout in - free weights, racks, benches, cardio machines, yoga mats.
The free weight room is a bit cramped, the ceiling is barely 6'5" tall. But again, the price for 6 months is 1-2 month at pretty much anywhere else in NYC.
As for the staff at the counter, I've met 2. 1 was nice and helpful, the other wasn't.

Great gym, but what else to expect from Dolphin?? The location is ideal - right in a busy shopping area. I'd consider this more of a boutique club, relatively quiet during the day, so you can get your workout in with no interruptions! Great staff, clean environment AT ALL TIMES, and tons of machines, treadmills, and weights! Great gym!!

Nice gym but I left because there are not classes
Decent and convenient gym thats clean and serves it's purpose of getting you in shape.
No pretension... no frills...and affordable.. no gimmicks.. one time payment with no worries about your card being charged monthly.. I've been coming here four years... the staff is friendly and always helpful... Carrie is a staple there... people are serious about their workouts... and friendly, respectful to eachother... clean ... great equipment... highly recommended...
Good basic exercise fitness center is handicapped accessible and covers all exercise needs with excellent gym equipment. Large cardiovascular area. All also accept silver sneakers memberships parade. Street-level entrance plus lower level Studio. Handicap accessible bathroom at street level. Not as fancy as New York Sports Club but better layout of gym equipment. Good Greek restaurant next door for those that need to protein up. On 4th Avenue and 86th Street dolphin Health Club takes away virtually any excuse for being out of shape.
This is a great gym, there are some problems here and there, like the bathroom isnt all too great and the lockers are messed up, but it has the right machines for a great workout
Unpretentious Health Club offers excellent variety of equipment from weights to aerobics. Dolphin fitness clubs is it good value and offers classes downstairs. Clean and helpful staff. Locker rooms on not the strong point but most people work out in the clothes they came in. Handicap accessible is a significant Plus among health clubs and Dolphin Fitness is indeed very friendly for those that are handicap or have Mobility challenges
"Cozy" gym. Lots of equipment, weight room is not wheelchair accessible but, it is a sufficient space to crunch weights and do cardio. Regularly maintained and run by a staff who responds to requests and is very helpful. Trainers are available. Kari runs the gym during the day and is a caring and respectful manager.
I WILL NEVER BE A DOLPHIN GYM MEMBER AGAIN! I'd advise anyone to wait for a NYSC deal and pay the extra $10 per month. (And I've always hated NYSC.)
When I went to the gym on Bay Ridge Parkway, the gym was not clean and the equipment was in disrepair. Half the cardio equipment wasn't functioning property at any given time. And several machines never worked for the two plus years I went there. The space was unclean. The locker room was pathetic. No one would EVER want shower there! I've also heard the new location did not even have a water fountain. The only reason I stayed was because it was cheap.
Then, with two weeks notice, the club closed for fire safety reasons. There was no refund policy communicated to users, as you were expected to travel to the new location, which was a 15-20 walk from the original location. When you go to the gym at 5:30am and only have til 6:30am to workout that doesn't work. When I emailed customer service, I did not get an initial response for weeks that gave any kind of directions on how to get a refund. There was no phone number to call to speak to anyone. When I finally did get a call it was from a blocked number, so if you missed their call you could not reach them again. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED! I told them I no longer had a copy of my contract, and it took me 5 months of emailing to finally speak with someone who basically told me tough luck. The owner wouldn't accept a refund without it. I know multiple signed copies of contracts were made, and they were to file one away. They also had a computer login system with photos, which gave my membership info every time I checked in. But, they said they 'no longer have these'. To top it all off, the 'customer service agent', if you could call him that, yelled at me over the phone from the start, when I tried to ask about all these records they should have. He tried to tell me how he is refunding others right now who have had their paperwork. How is a refund that takes 5 months ever okay?! I've never been so mistreated by a customer service rep, and apparently there is no reasonable human being with any authority to speak with. THEY DO NOT VALUE THEIR CUSTOMERS AT ALL!
This is a good gym if you are looking to workout and go home. If you are looking for a gym to hangout at and pretend then go somewhere else. It is not fancy by any means and you have to plan your workout at time to coordinate where certain things are, but definitely does not smell, and Is always being cleaned while I am there. Actually I am annoyed sometimes because it breaks my concentration when the guy who cleans, cleans around me. Definitely more sanitary sprays for wiping equipment, but I am certain if I told someone it would happen instantly. So who ever writes that this place is dirty is not being honest.
I have never been treated with nothing but respect and kindness. I like when I walk in I am greeted by the staff and every time I leave, I am thanked for coming.
What would I like to see? the pre-weighted bar bells down stairs and up, and more cooler air in the winter months. What I really enjoy about this place is the seriousness of the people working out here. It reminds me of the old Bath Beach Body Building on ave U, from way back. I appreciate going to a place where the people understand the language I speak, don't try pick up anyone, and appreciate your business. Fancy? No! Serious, yes! Be the best version of yourself!!!
gym is absolutely horrifyingly terrible. Waste of money. Trust me. Weights don't pass 75lbs all the weights are down stairs with no phone service
and heat blazing on your face amd the squat rack is in a room
where the heat is blazing hot which can cause someone to pass out and hurt themselves. Customer service the worst and smells disgusting.

Simple, no frills place. Has the required machines. Neighborhood crowd no pretention. You get what you pay for, but it's very reasonably priced
