Cutting Edge is the a great place to train. The instructors and staff are extremely professional and work hard to help each student meet their goals. The program is highly structured to ensure the best training possible. When looking activities for yourself or your child, this is the place you want to visit first.
Honestly, words cant begin to describe how much of the man I am today has been shaped by Cutting Edge and head instructor Prof. Josef Manuel. You are going to see the aspects of a clean and respectful environment where you can safely grow as a practitioner of the arte suave, but above this you will truly grow as a person and make friendships with people who will become closer to you like brothers and sisters.
Prof. Manuel has played an instrumental role in my formation as a man and at all the lowest points of my life, he has always supported me and gave me the mental strength to keep pressing on. I really wouldn't be training or even be alive without the lessons that I learned on the mat with him. Cancer Survivor here wooooo!
You are always going to get top notch training every class you get and you are always going to be stuffed with knowledge, but for me it's the intangibles which you just have to experience which keep you coming back to the academy day after day. You really can't go wrong with this academy. I love it so much with every fiber of my being. I really wish I just could live there.

I had trained for years and had to stop to pursue medicine in school, but in need for a school that has both skill and respect. Since starting school in Newark, I found this amazing school that stands for good virtues and talent. I joined immediately after experiencing the positive attitude of the instructor, students, and positive overall atmosphere. Great for beginners and great for experienced students, as well.
My daughter is six years old and has been enrolled in the kids classes for three months now and in that short amount of time she has transformed dramatically in physical ability and in overall personal behavior. The instructor has an incredible way of instilling great discipline and morals into the kids.
If your looking for somewhere to bring your kids where they can learn discipline, self respect and some great self defense this is the place.
By far a great place to walk in to, The welcoming in to the Academy was wonderful every student and staff member introduced themselves one by one the Atmosphere was great What I couldn't help to notice immediately was how clean the Academy was even with training going on, Everyone shared a smile which gives me some comfort when a smile is shared with me I feel more at ease, There were moments when Professor Josef would call time, At this time we had the opportunity to ask questions about the technique being performed He would take the time to demonstrate step by step the technique and answer any questions pertaining to the technique as many times asked he would answer with a smile, Ok anymore questions? OK then time to "roll" Seems to me like his favorite word, You get a sense of being at home in this academy from white belts to black everyone treated you with respect and rolled with you no matter what rank you were, Awesome place to train,

Checked out Cutting Edge with a friend of mine who trains here and I had a great experience. Sensei José Manuel was very knowledgeable, informative, and had the perfect combination of insight and humor. I loved that it was easy to train technique without having to be worried about getting hurt because someone was trying to prove themselves. Thanks to Sensei José for taking it easy on me as a newbie while still providing a challenging session! :)

Ever since I started training at cutting edge, all I can say is that the atmosphere is like no other. The people there has their own stories and living proof that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can change your life in a positive way! The teaching is astonishing and mind blowing. All I can say is if you like being mind blown, experience new things, want to lose weight, and be motivated to push yourself than look no further this place would be for you!

I have been training at Cutting Edge Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over 8 years. It has been the most positive thing I have done for my physical well being. I have lost over 40 lbs and am in better shape at 53 than I was at 33. The people I train with have become very close friends and both of my children train there as well. Josef Manuel's expertise and instruction are unparalleled . If you have made it to the point of reading reviews you owe it to yourself to come on down and check it out.
I met professor Josef Manuel when he visited our school in Dover, NJ. I was amazed with his vast knowledge and wisdom in Brazilian Jiujitsu and his flawless techniques, you can clearly see his teacher( the legendary Robson Moura) in him. He made the lessons so simple that even my two daughters, who joined us for class, could execute the move. One thing that Impressed me the most is his personality. He is very humble and approachable, he made us feel like we've been his students for a long time. I will always be grateful to him that he took some of his time to visit, teach and train us. His students are very lucky to have him as a teacher and all of us are lucky to have him as a friend.
I finally joined Cutting Edge Brazilian Jiujitsu Academy in October of 2017. They welcomed me with open arms. I am amazed on how dedicated the students are to the art and it shows by how technical they are. I attribute this to our Sensei because he shows us his love for the art, his passion in teaching and his dedication to his students. I travel at least 20 miles one way which is between 20 to 30 mins just to attend class. I do this because I want to repay my Sensei with the same dedication he shows us. I also feel like a kid with a new toy every time I train. Every time Sensei teaches, the technique lingers in my brain for hours and hours. This place is definitely a place I call home. It's an amazing place.
As I became friends over the years with Joseph living far away it was hard to train there I've just recently made a trip out there to train I cannot explain the hospitality I was shown it was a fantastic experience... As I took a private with him he cannot have explained it better going thorough detail like a surgeon... Anybody in the jersey area must train at cutting edge as I will be visiting more often.....
I began this journey roughly 2 months ago and while I am fairly new it doesn't take an expert to see the amount of commitment, love, and passion that sensei Josef Manuel puts into his school. I have the privilege to not only be taught by him but also get time rolling on the mat with him. He truly invests his time with all of his students regardless of belt ranks and the adult classes are open for all belt ranks, which I really enjoy. He is active inside and outside of the school, always planning events and promoting bjj. His achievements and reputation speak for themselves, he also instills his beliefs in all of his instructors and students and you sense that on day one. His teachings are simple to digest and he is very effective in making sure you understand the technique and details involved. There is absolutely no reason to not give this school a try, guaranteed no regrets!

This place is great!! Started training about 6 months ago... take this place as my 2nd home already! Plus we get to train with our Professor Josef Manuel beast on the mats!!! Champs are to be made here in this place!!!

All level belts attend class (no white or blue belts only class).l The professor is highly knowledgeable and friendly to all students (he rolls with everyone!). afterwards the group is always ready to eat acai and hangout!! I love this place!!!
I have been training at Cutting Edge for about 3 months now I was referred by a friend. Hands down one of the best choices I have made. The training is top notch taught by a world class professor. The environment pushes you to be a better person in life not in jiu jitisu. I would highly recommend this school to anyone looking for a change in their life!
