Now Yoga? Meh. I've experienced better.
Yoga studios are just about on every commercial, business or industrial block here in Reno and Sparks. Some times, two or more of them are in the same shopping center or business park. That means there is a lot of competition in our small town for Yoga customers. That means a business must be competitive with their pricing and customer service because if you don't take care of your customers, someone else will.
Pros
Wide variety of classes and instructors.
Props, blankets, blocks, and straps are provided.
Studio temperature is 76 degrees.
Location
Parking
Has wide availability of payment programs.
Has discounts such as Student, Nevada Indian, Senior and Veterans Discounts.
Cons
Lack of Glossary of Terms anywhere. Not on website, not on schedule, not available anywhere. Instructors too often don't even know much if anything about other classes at the studio.
Rock and Roll or Soft Rock or loud music in a Yoga studio? Seriously? Music is too often so loud it drowns out the instructor's words.
Discouraging lack of meditative or relaxing Yoga music. Where's the Yoga Music?!? It IS a Yoga studio.
The props are not cleaned between use. Nor does the studio require users bring and use their own towels on the provided props. Why not? People put their mouths, noses, hands, feet, etc on these props.
Lack of teaching experience in the younger instructors. Just because one 'knows' Yoga or is learning it, does not make a Yoga Instructor. Instructors should have completed classes in how to teach in general.
One instructor, sometimes parks in limited time parking in front of the studio and way exceeds that limited time.
Safety and correct techniques isn't often discussed.
Bathroom is very cold during winter.
Has no changing room.
Studio temperature is 76 degrees.
Instructors should arrive at minimum 15" before each class and stay for at minimum for 15" after each class. I saw instructor Katie kick a student out of the studio between classes, which are a half-an-hour apart, because this instructor wanted to immediately leave and not wait for the next instructor.
Lack of communication from management to instructors and students. Classes are changed without prior notice which one doesn't know about until one has already shown up at the studio. Yet, management could easily send out an email to everyone when there is a change in class time, instructor or style, but management doesn't, even going so far as to demand here in a response that customers just check the website, which itself is usually incorrect.
Pictures and information on website needs to be updated.
Small room so gets crowded occasionaly. People's feet have been to the side of my head and when I've reached my arms up they are on peoples feet or ankles, when I've reached my arms out our hands and arms bump with each other, same hazard for poses done up-the-wall; all that is a safety hazard, especially for those who may be elderly, frail (Osteoporosis) or disabled.
