Normally I'm happy here. Though the staff never seems to be around upstairs when you need them in the evenings.
Need more spray bottles of the disinfectant instead of just the deposable wipes. There are certain individuals who hog the spray bottles and walk around with them like they own them, then they give you an evil look or make you feel uncomfortable when you want to use it. Like 3-4 more spray bottles laying around would solve that. Some of us are heavy sweaters and the disposable cloths just don't get the equipment cleaned down good enough for the person who's using it after us.
Middle school and high schools kids need to be supervised a lot more than they are. They run wild around this place, never wiping down equipment, hogging equipment, not putting free weights away, and just being flat out inconsiderate of the other members...typical kid stuff. Though the staff, as stated above, is never around to reprimand them or make it clear to them they need to follow the rules. All the signs in the world won't get a disrespectful kid to follow it. An adult calling them out in front of everyone does the trick, but it shouldn't be up to other members to confront these kids.
The recent facility closures (August 2018) could have been handled a lot better by the management. The posted notifications weren't very helpful except letting us know dates. Asking anyone working the desks what specifically was going on or what would actually be available to us when the second floor was closed was met with "I don't knows" all around. I asked in July 2018 what equipment might be brought down stairs and they had no idea. I ask the week before August 20, and they still had no clue. Come to find out none of the equipment was being brought down, which is understandable, but why none of the support staff around knew this was beyond me. I guess it's just typical city/government run need to know basis stuff, but it could of been handled a lot better and the staff could have been provided a list of everything that was going on so they could actually answer questions. Being essentially locked out of the second floor for two weeks and being offered no prorated rate for the month is the worst part. It's an expensive place to go and to still have to pay the full price for only half a month of use isn't very ethical in my opinion. Every member should have been given a 50% or more discount for the month of August 2018, but again its typical of anything run by a city/government entity.
I'll continue coming here until a better option becomes available. Planet Fitness' parking lot is always packed and is pretty much the main reason I keep coming here. If another gym opens up after the empty Mission Mall lot ever gets anything built there I'll probably go there. The weight machines over the last 10 years have been reduced from what they used to have to accommodate the senior living facility. The majority of the things they put in for the seniors are never used during the evenings. Waste of space!
Once the two new apartment complexes get finished (On Johnson Dr and on Martway) this place is going to turn into a mess. It will be over crowded and become very frustrating to workout there. Of course this is just a prediction, but if you build two apartment complexes one in front, and one behind this place, it's not going to make things any easier traffic wise.
In summary management just needs to a much better job making sure support staff can answer questions. Keep your people in the loop and make sure they are in the loop, quiz them to ensure they are in the loop, and retrain them as necessary.
