They have some of the best instructors, and an amazing atmosphere for learning. The way they structure their classes offers a great way to learn. The Academy seems to attract quality people to the gym, as there are a lot of great people to train and learn with.

Very great academy, and great teachers! My son was the youngest student and the older kids helped him out. He has gained jiu jitsu skills and also is a better more focused listener. I plan on taking classes someday as well. Great place!

Coach Brandon was one of the best jiu jitsu coaches I've ever had. I've been to 2 other schools in the area and none of them were as up to par as Brandon's coaching.

Not to mention, the community he's built. Everyone treated each other like family. And they welcomed me with open arms

Unfortunately I have to move away. Or else I'd train here forever

I've been a student here for 7 months. Nothing but great thing to say about the Academy. Everyone is friendly and helpful. All the coaches are approachable. Higher rank students helping lower rank students. We are all advancing together.

One of the greatest learning environment for both mental and physical.

100% bringing my kids here when they are old enough.

When I decided I wanted to try Jiu Jitsu, I did a lot of research and read reviews for a lot of different gyms in the Twin Cities area. I was in terrible shape both mentally and physically so I wanted to find a place with a welcoming, supportive atmosphere. The St. Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy had an overwhelming amount of reviews talking about how positive the culture was so I signed up for the free trial. From day one those reviews were proven correct. To this day, every training partner I've ever had from Coach Brandon himself down to a white belt taking their first class has been friendly, supportive, patient, and eager to learn. A little over 8 months in I'm down more than 100 lbs and in a much better place mentally.

I can't recommend this gym highly enough, both for the culture and the extremely high level martial arts training. I've not competed yet myself but in the time since I've been here, at least a dozen of my teammates have won medals in tournaments using techniques specifically taught to us at the Academy.

From the culture, to the level of instruction, flexible class times, cleanliness of the facilities, and access to the vast dvd instructional library I truly believe this is the best Jiu Jitsu gym in the area. If you're just trying to get in shape or if you're already in great shape and want to learn to protect yourself this is the place for you.

Favorite part about this gym is the variety.
Variety of people, body types, training styles, demographics, etc.
It creates a welcoming and fun environment, plus the option to train hard and see how far you can take it.

My name is Chou Heu and I am 32 years old. I have been training at Saint Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy for about 8 weeks at the time of this writing. I have been blessed with the opportunity to train five times a week. If I have attended about 30 training sessions so far and I have enjoyed every single one of them. My nephew joined me on a tour and we signed up immediately after a quick demonstration of a few techniques. The coaches are friendly, the mats are clean, and the comradery is unlike anything I have been involved in. I currently have a personal trainer for two sessions per week at a local gym and this is without a doubt a better value. I will not only learn how to defend myself, I will get fit while doing it. I have since cancelled by personal training contract at the local gym and I am finishing up my personal training sessions. I am currently in the foundation program, but I believe, when the time is right, I will be invited into the mastery program at the academy. Overall, I highly recommend Saint Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy. If you need a place to train or happen to be interested in BJJ and you are in the twin cities, come on by. I hope to see you on the mats one day, not as an opponent, but a training partner.

I was In St. Paul working for a week and I trained here. The instructor Brandon is very good and teaches from a conceptual technical point of view. The other students were very nice. Brandon treated me like I was a member and answered some specific questions I had about the evening position and movements. great place. if your in the St. Paul you should check it out.

A great combination of rigorous standards and welcoming atmosphere. Brandon is an excellent and effective instructor who genuinely cares about each of his students, and that ripples out in the way team members support each other to improve every day. Check it out!

I've been training at Brazilian jiu-jitsu Academy for about 2 months. Coach Brandon is a great guy. He makes the gym very welcoming. All of the people are friendly. Which makes it a good and fun place to learn jiu-jitsu.

Humble, respectful, friendly, and extremely welcoming, Coach Bergeron has put together a top level Jiu-Jitsu program in St. Paul. An excellent facility, both clean and spacious mat area. Coach Bergeron captures the true art of Jiu-Jitsu and is a successfully fierce competitor as well. If you are looking for a spot to train, this is a school you have to consider.

February 24, 2018 17:44

Brandon Bergeron is extremely phony. He seems very nice upon meeting but don't let that fool you as the man is extremely mentally ill. Resolves issues in a very one sided manner and will resort to harassment via phone and e-mail if he doesn't get his way. Filed papers for court to collect membership even though I never trained one day there. Members that do decide to leave are harassed. He's also very overpriced with large initiation fee. I highly recommend anyone looking to train go elsewhere as there are better gyms and trainers for this particular art. If you can see Bergeron from a distance you're too close.

I love grappling. I love jiujitsu. But I never really was taught how to roll let alone pull off certain submissions. I'm happy the opportunity was presented to join this group. It's a great workout. It's real. It teaches you how to handle somebody including yourself. Very humbling and lastly everyone including our instructor is nice and friendly. Everyone gets along. Its a great to get up off your butt and meet new people. I suggest you train here because of the energy and who you are learning from.

Awesome rolls today. Instruction by Brandon was top notch and the guys were fun to roll with. Among other techniques, I learned a new twist on the guillotine. There was a very warm welcome at the beginning of class too. The facility feels new with ample mat space. Brandon (the black belt) even stayed after open mat and chatted with me beyond normal closing time. Also, shout to John for inviting me!

I had been training Jiu Jitsu for about eight months and while traveling for work, I had the chance to come train with coach Brandon at St. Paul Jiu Jitsu Academy. Coach Brandon is an amazing coach and I could see that reflected in his students' welcoming attitude when we were training together on the mats. The academy was well maintained and clean with restrooms and spacious changing areas. Coach Brandon's curriculum ensured that his students mastered their training techniques and his survival combat class applied that knowledge to real life scenarios. Anyone local to the area would be lucky to be able to train with Coach Brandon and I recommend anyone traveling to the area who is looking for an awesome place to train to stop by as well.

One thing that sets this school apart from other martial arts gyms is the open and diverse culture. All are made to feel welcome here and the more advanced students go out of their way to encourage and help the newer students. Brandon is is a very friendly, technical, talented, and patient instructor. The facility is spacious and clean. If you're looking for a place to learn quality Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a supportive, low-stress environment, this is it.

Since starting my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey at St. Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy under the tutelage of Head Instructor/Owner Brandon my life has changed in so many was. I've lost weight, gained confidence, made friends, and pushed myself do things I once thought impossible. All well falling I love with this truly amazing martial art. Brandon has created a inviting and inclusive environment at the gym that makes it an awesome place for people for all walks of life to come train. Regardless of your skill level or experience this a place were you will fell welcome. Spend any time this gym and it's easy to see how Brandon cares for his students and wants to help them succeed on and off the mats. I can say with out a shadow of a doubt that taking the leap of faith and starting to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at this gym was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Been training here for just over 6 months. Love the vibe and the instruction. Have been recommending to all my friends and family. You know the saying "I wouldn't wish that on my enemy"? Well, if we had a saying for the opposite of that, I would use it with this place. I've been wishing the people I care about would learn BJJ, and for those of y'all in the Twin Cities metro area? This is the place.

Great place to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! If you are a true beginner (such as myself) to a more intermediate skill and belt level this is the place to learn/ improve. The owner and head instructor Brandon is the most courteous, positive and helpful person to learn these skills from. Anyone can do Jiu Jitsu and this is one of the best places in the twin cites to be taught the step by step process of doing the moves correctly and safely. The fellow members are extremely helpful and positive as well. Great people all around! I can not recommend the St. Paul Academy enough!
