Beautiful space, wonderful teacher. Just what I needed after a long day of traveling.
By far, the superior yoga studio in town. Fantastic, calming space, but the proficiency of instruction and the care with which the owners operate their facility makes all the difference. Would never hesitate to recommend Tarana.
Don't miss the Happy Hour practice on the first Friday of every month.
Most of the teachers here are amazing, however there exists a "clubby" , somewhat elitist atmosphere where some clients and their relatives are treated much better than others. They receive more adjustments, positive comments, etc. a case in point is the Alignment Yoga teacher. I'd been attending her classes semi-regularly and noticed that most of her students had been with her for a long time. So anyway, she announced that she would be teaching an advanced workshop once or twice a month. I asked her about the workshop and she basically snubbed me big time. She stated, "This is for people who can do blah, blah blah or, if they can't, they can maintain a "positive regard" for themselves when they can't". She went on, "I will be participating in the class and will not be providing much instruction." Then she walked away. A few minutes later, I heard her encouraging her "homies" to come to the workshop. She told them, "You should come, don't worry if you can't blah blah, I will be instructing as well." I couldn't believe my ears! Then there's the fact that every single time I went to class she would talk about her home buying (yup, Lilly white Southwest Mpls/Edina - yawn!) in detail. Sister, some of the people I work with don't even have homes. Overall this experience was a huge turnoff. I've seen it in a few of the other instructors as well. Most obviously with the Ashtanga teacher who only pays attention to those who are "really good" already or people from her hood.....yes Very Edina. Like the Alignment teacher, this teacher is the typical former aerobics, corporate America, gone yoga and very into the gymnastic aspects of yoga, but little else. FYI, not everyone tries to achieve the body of a prepubescent boy into middle age and beyond. No diversity in the students or teachers either. Too bad because most of the teachers are very good, at least at the physical aspects of yoga, but the Southwest Minneapolis clubbiness/arrogance is off-putting to say the least.
This is an amazing yoga studio. Great teachers and community. I'm so happy I found this place!
A great environment for all students.
