The place as a whole is great. They have a great pool area with a rain tree and waterside. Climbing wall is fun too. There is a few front desk employees who are rude when trying to get people to leave who are still changing. They can still remain professional when trying to get people to leave. I watched this one employee just be out right disrespectful to a family who was in the family locker room. I really hope they reported him to management.

Posted this review to 'YMCA - Coon Rapids' as well.
Evelyn was a very helpful and made me feel extremely welcomed at this location. I was pretty nervous to ask for an explanation of where everything was when I first arrived but Evelyn was so welcoming! I didn't feel like a burden to ask her for help at all.
This would be 4/5 only because of the free lockers. It is unfortunate that they get stuck in a locked position and people need to ask the front desk to help unlock it. The staff person who helped me with my locker was kind however I wish I didn't have to ask anyone. Than again, complaining about free things is pretty tacky.

I have been to other YMCA locations and this location has the best instructors anywhere. I go every single day and take several classes, I also use machines and walk the track. My husband is a member as is my daughter, her entire family, and my son. My grandchildren have taken swim lessons at the y. During the summer months it is louder due to the kid population but I believe the staff, for the most part, keeps them under control. They have an adequate daycare facility which was recently remodeled. Although I didn't notice an increase of activities available. They could use additional staff so the climbing area could be utilized more often. The pool is great but again they could use additional staff so that the water slide and water tree are open longer. I also noticed that each lifeguard seems to have a different set of rules for the water slide, they need to be more consistent so both children and adults know the rules. The splash pad is great, although it seems to cater more to younger children. My grandchildren have taken classes with me and have utilized kidstuff, the pool and the splash pad, they enjoy all areas. The Y also encourages members to volunteer for great programs like feed my starving children which we participated in.

Hours are limited, pool is often fully used by classes and the schedules are not accommodating for lap swimming. Limited weight lifting equipment. Good classes/group fitness focus.

Don't go here unless you get the full shtick of their dishonesty and hateful unfriendly attitude. Then see if its right for you. You'll get screwed out of your time and money if you come here.

Really enjoyed our visit to this YMCA! It was a large establishment with an outdoor playground and indoor pool. The locker rooms were large and clean. Our family spent all of our time in the outdoor, castle-themed, splash pad and picnic area. It is all fenced in and also has two larger water slides ideal for your little ones.

Great swimming pool great hot tub great playground. but there were no restaurants inside of it and the service was not the best .if you use the basketball court there are always extra basketballs.

A good summer program that my boy seems to enjoy for the last few weeks. Lots of activities and things to do. It would be five stars if it was Valley Fair everyday. Hahaha

I would probably give this 3.5 stars if I could. We go generally for toddler swim lessons and the pool and family locker rooms are always crowded. It seems the lifegairds are always yelling at the same group of kids and their parents are no where in sight. The swim lessons have gotten much better recently with the revamp of the aquatic program.

Great place to have a workout and they have a playground area where you can take your little kids 10 and under

Great people. Water classes are great, enjoy the time I'm there. Clean rooms. Lifeguards are great.

I've been a member of the Y on and off for well over a decade. What I've noticed about this location is a shift in politeness as far as members go. Last night left me thinking it's time to move on again. There were so many unruly children running up and down the hallway by the locker rooms and basketball courts. Some without shoes. There were children sitting on the steps you'd take to go up to the cardio equipment and track area. There was trash on the floor in the lobby area that members walked past without bothering to take a second to pick up and throw away. In the women's locker room, there were several families with many children that were hollering and had towels all over the floor and benches. I'm not sure if it's a cultural thing or total unawareness? I'd provide pictures, but obviously taking pictures of people's children and in the locker room is an absolute no! The cardio machine I used had a slick, sticky film on the handles. Yes, this location provides pre-moistened Purell wipes but after four wipes I gave up. The classes offered are plentiful. Track well kept.cardio equipment all have smart screens on them so you can stream YouTube vids, net use, and watch TV. But I don't know if dealing with the chaos is worth my ~$69/month membership.

Had a wonderful workout with my daughter here! So much fun made me want to reactivate my membership

I took 2 of my grandsons (Gage and Bransen) to their swimming lessons there. It's a great place!

No complaints about the fitness center and track. This place NEEDS dividers in their showers. This place usually smells foul but they must have pinpointed the source and took care of it. If you like a quiet relaxing sauna, don't bother weekday evenings. A lot of drama in that sauna lololol And if you plan on working out while your kids swim forget about it. I've never seen such inattentive and distracted lifeguards anywhere else in my life. One day I saw someone lifeguarding in boots and blue jeans. Its not uncommon to see a lifeguard staring at their phone or a laptop. When I go to the elk River Y all the lifeguards are in swim wear and NEVER take their eyes off the water. Unless management does something, it's only a matter of time before something horrible happens.

Ok YMCA. Andover location is much better. This location has a very small daycare which is constantly under staffed. Equipment is nice. Pool is ok. Basketball courts are nice if u can ever get on them. The tweens & teenagers basically overrun this place once school gets out for the day.

Very nice place, locker rooms are Ok! Great basketball teams here and the coaches are wonderful. They are there for the kids, teach them skills, but most importantly how to be a team player, respect and self worth! This YMCA has a outdoor splash pad and little waterpark for the kids during the summer time! Good place to have the kids run around and burn off some energy. Open gym times are good for rainy days. I love the daycare here they have one side for the babies and little times and then another side with a indoor gym for the bigger kids to run and play. Perfect so you don't have to worry about the little ones getting knocked over by the bigs. Staff is very friendly and really start to know the members!

Problems with some of the staff talking inappropriately to kids.. Very unruly children running around out of control. They have some fun events and some nice staff as well..

My least favorite of the three Y's I go to. No complaints about the fitness center and track. This place NEEDS dividers in their showers. A great place to workout but not if you dislike kids.

February 19, 2018 15:24

Usually has children/teens in the pool area that are rough and rude. I stopped going to this one due to the kids who seem to just get dropped off to get babysat. The lifeguards try their best but I don't find it safe or leisurely got my 7yo and myself.

January 8, 2018 02:08

My kids say the lifeguards are "kinder and happier" in Coon Rapids than the lifeguards at the New Hope location. We travel three times the distance to go to this location for swimming, mostly for this reason. It's kind of a big deal

My wife and I stop going here. It was a nice place to go until some children without any home training starting showing up and deficating in the pool. Not accidently, intentionally. They thought is was funny. Then the staff would have to shut down the pool and clean and disinfect it. No thank you.

I've been to quite a few Y's in the metro and this one ranks near the top. Plenty of space, the weight room especially, and many machines and a great track. It has a climbing wall and a splash pad. Hot tub, sauna and decent size pool. Huge basketball ball courts and a great kid area. Come to think of it this is probably the best Y.

I came looking to get a membership and see what it was like.
A member of staff give me a tour around the Gym. Swimming pools, workout area
Are well maintained.
good size free parking lot with outdoor playground. I have never done any activities there.

October 25, 2017 15:04

This Y has a lot of diversity and various age groups. I enjoy the early morning silver sneaker crowd and the sense of community I get while speaking with them. The four stars is due to the travel I have to do to get there.

October 25, 2017 15:04

Nice place, could use some more family/disability friendly space for the locker rooms.

October 25, 2017 15:04

I love the Y. Only thing I don't like, it's gross to see people fully dressed in the pool and hot tub.
My infant has to wear a swim diaper and plastic cover, but other people are in the pool fully dressed.... Something isn't right

We love the Emma B Howe YMCA. The staff are great with my boys. The class instructors are inspiring and the workout equipment is new. Love the splash deck too!

October 25, 2017 15:04

Great hometown feel gym. The kids stuff is a little lacking, but they have classes for my kids to go to that the enjoy. Helpful and nice staff. Love the outdoor splash pad
