I attended my first yoga class about ten years ago in this exact space. I loved my experience here and it still holds high standards today as my practice has grown. Some highlights include: welcoming front desk staff, amazing teachers, beautiful energy in the studio, provides the perfect nurturing space to continue to expand my practice (both physically and mentally), comfortable practice environment that is not intimidating, experienced teachers and students.

I've been going to yoga shelter for the past two weeks and I've tried a variety of classes. Overall great experience. I like that there are a variety of yoga classes throughout the day and they offer classes as late as 8:30 p.m which fits my schedule. Staff is very friendly and welcoming, teachers are very supportive and knowledgeable. I like the positivity and energy I get from every class.

Clean and peaceful atmosphere. This was my first experience with yoga, I got a great workout. I felt like Robin really cares about her students and was very easy to follow!!

I am new to the practice of Yoga. The Yoga Shelter was my first experience ever and it was amazing! The staff is very hospitable. I was able to join right in for my first session. Becky was amazing and easy to follow. I am looking forward to going again (today) and signing up for a package so I can continue to grow in my practice. Thank you for making Yoga an accessible part of my life!

I am a beginner to yoga. The yoga shelter is very clean and class sizes are not to crowded. I believe everyone should practice yoga. It has been very good for both the body and the mind. The staff is very friendly and makes you feel very welcomed.

I am new to yoga and tried the Yoga Shelter in Royal Oak with my friend. Going into my first class I was very nervous because I didn't know what to expect and it was a vinyasa class. I was pleasantly surprised with the class! I felt very comfortable doing what I could and did not feel judged at all by other people! It was so great after my first month of classes, I bought 6 months unlimited classes! :)

Have been attending the 6 am Thursday vinyasa class. So far, I am glad I am making the extra effort to get up and participate. I always have a long workday on Thursday and my day runs a little smoother. Great class and instructor. Thank you!,,

I am a new student at the Yoga Shelter in R.O. I love it! Small and intimate setting and not pretentious. It just feels right and comfortable place to practice. Its okay to be yourself and struggle...super cool!

I took a few years off from practicing yoga so I was nervous to get back into it but Yoga Shelter has a great variety of classes so it was an easy transition. The Wall Yoga on Saturday is my favorite! I've been going to the West Bloomfield location.

I just started doing Yoga, and have been coming to Yoga shelter for a little over a month. As a first timer the instructors were great with explaining the movements and poses. I'll definitely be coming back.

I purchased the first timers 30-day pass and thus far have really enjoyed my experience. The Slow Flow class is ideal for after work stress release. And for more intense techniques , I go to Vinyasa on Saturday morning but be ready for Matt if you choose his class. His class is intense. He a great instructor. I have been pleased with all of the instructors. I will become a full time member.

I've gone here a handful of times now, and I always leave with a smile on after the sessions. This studio offers a range of different types of yoga, so you have the option of just going to stretch, or going to get in a good cardio workout. All the instructors I've had here so far have given me some new perspective and some aspect of yoga. And with as many instructors as The Yoga Shelter has, you always have options of different teaching styles.

Yoga Shelter was recommended to me by a friend. Classes here will really get your heart rate up and leave you feeling like you had a great workout. Each class and instructor has a distinct feel so I've enjoyed taking classes with different instructors. Some leave you feeling especially peaceful and centered, others offer helpful corrections; all are enjoyable for different reasons.

Before going to Yoga Shelter I was very against/skeptical about doing yoga. My boyfriend had been asking me for months to try it with him. Yoga Shelter changed my point of view on what yoga is (for the better) and how it can help me through my emotional struggle. So far I have only attended slow flow sessions but would definitely recommend Yoga Shelter to others.

Of the many yoga studio's I've been to, Yoga Shelter is by far my favorite. Everybody is kind, classes are always different, challenging and relaxing. I always feel like I've accomplished something when I leave and like I'm getting stronger every time I attend. All the teachers are wonderful and seem to be well educated with each yoga practice. Definitely recommended to all levels.

Overall very nice studio. Attractive space. Well run. Good variety of classes with challenging routines.
Things I like include the late classes (8:30), clear instructions during class, very friendly staff, and access to restrooms and water fountain.
Possible negatives include difficulty parking (car or bike) in Royal Oak, road noise outside studio can be distracting as well as the flashing lights from giant restaurant sign outside window that starts around 9pm. I would also prefer more Yin classes (just one per week) and studio can be overly warm at times (personal preference).

I have been to both the Birmingham and Royal Oak location and I just love the Royal Oak location. I love that it is on the second floor and that you just feel peaceful walking into the studio.

So far, my favorite is the 8:30 Yin on Monday nights. It is such a great stretch and I leave ready for bed. I think it is great that it starts my week off right.

My friend and I have been coming to the 11:30 Sunday Slow Flow class with Matt Edwards. Matt is a phenomenal instructor. He brings a positive energy to the class and gives really helpful instructions to the class and corrections to individuals as needed. Matt has corrected my form on several occasions in which I instantly can feel the difference.

I have taken yoga classes at my gym and have visited other yoga studios in the area, and I don't feel like the quality of instruction compares to what I have received at Yoga Shelter.

Great classes and instructors! Everyone is SO friendly! Just tried Ariel yoga as well and I'm in love! These classes have significantly helped reduce the tension inu back and neck. Highly suggest!

Love this place! I'm somewhat new to yoga but they're so encouraging and patient that I feel welcome no matter what. The place is also very clean and inviting. I always am looking forward to my next class!

Great location, very clean with all the right necessities. Staff and instructors are welcoming, helpful, knowledgeable, and caring. I had a followup call a few hours after my first visit to make sure everything went well. After a long day Slow Flow is the way to go. Jack

I bought the $39/month package to try Yoga Shelter out and have really enjoyed going! It depends on your instructor and the type of Yoga you like to do, but everyone at Yoga Shelter is super friendly.
The entrance and waiting area is pretty small though. You have to take your shoes off in a small hallway area before you get in and the waiting area isn't that much bigger, so it definitely gets crowded; especially when there are back to back classes.

Yoga Shelter was so welcoming for my first time trying out Yoga! They made me feel comfortable and helped me keep up. The class was amazing, very well taught, our instructor was both calming and funny. Overall great experience and I can't wait to go back!

Yoga Shelter is a great place to start, or continue your practice. The teachers are great (and fun!) and let you flow at your own pace and don't correct every move. There is a great sense of community and friendship at the Shelter.

I recently went to my first class and I instantly felt welcomed. The environment is very relaxing and open to all yogis no matter the skill level. I loved the music during class because it kept me motivated and the wall of windows is phenomenal.

Great teachers, atmosphere and sense of community. Even has meditation and philosophy in most classes! Love this place!

I love this studio. All the teachers are prepared, fun, creative and caring. Lots of cool events take place at this studio, challenges, studio workshops, yoga 101, etc. Yoga Shelter app is a great place to check class schedules. Best of all, this studio's pricing is the most reasonable of all studios in the area- by far!

Finally, finally I found a yoga studio for me. The studio is clean, the staff in friendly and informative. Most of all it is NOT hot yoga. I'm new to yoga and this studio is perfect. It has a variety of different intensity classes. Me personally low and slow, more getting in touch with my body and breathing, finding inner peace. Also learning the poses and how to do them correctly. So far I'm a week in and hooked. I can see doing it everyday. Thank you Joy Yoga Center.

Absolutely LOVED my experience at Yoga Shelter! I felt life in its purest form being restored to my body during class and invigorated after it was over. I have signed up for plenty more classes at all locations and plan to purchase a membership.

October 25, 2017 15:23

The instructors are amazing and extremely helpful for any sort of question you may have. I've been to a handstand workshop there and also have attended a private class. 10/10 would recommend to a friend and will definitely be back!

The Yoga Shelter offers a welcoming, compassionate environment to practice yoga. Each instructor guides you and encourages as well as challenges you to offer your best but let go of the rest. The different styles of classes serve students' needs and help them achieve the personal, mental and physical fitness goals that bring them into the Shelter and keep them coming back.

October 25, 2017 15:23

Please let the students know in advance if a class gets canceled. Some of us have to make time to be there. Besides that, I really like the place.
