I started here at Crossfit Luminary in January 2018 and just ended my membership December 2019 due to travel nursing. When I first moved to Grand Rapids I didn't know which crossfit gym I wanted to go to. I'm from Charlotte, MI and did crossfit there for a couple years. Originally when I moved to Grand Rapids I quoted most affordable crossfit gyms and ones that weren't too far from me in Kentwood, Crossfit Luminary being one of them. I did a trial run at Crossfit Luminary and I loved it! Everyone was very friendly and welcoming which is great because sometimes crossfit members are very intimidating. The gym was big and open with a good amount of equipment. A lot of different times that you could go to a class and they had open gym. I've been to many crossfit classes but what I loved most is that the teacher in the beginning of class would go over each technique. Doesn't matter how times you've done the move it's always so good to remind yourself the best way to perform to prevent any injury. There's crossfit family gatherings. So much support. I recommend Crossfit Luminary!

Great community of amazing women and men. All of the coaches at Luminary genuinely care and you can tell how passionate they are to see everyone improve. They did an amazing job getting me past the intimidation of getting into the gym and helping me make changes that I'll 100% take with me going forward. Would highly recommend Luminary to anyone!

I signed up for the 6 week challenge in order to jump start my weight loss journey... again. I seem to gain and lose the same 20-30 pounds every year and I'm tired of it. I generally know what to do, it's the execution and accountability I struggle with, and that's where Luminary helped. Reaching the weight loss goal in the allotted 6 weeks is definitely not easy, but it's certainly doable. Follow the diet as prescribed, do the work and you will see results. They have a knowledgable group of coaches and an awesome community of athletes who will help you along the way!

With the help from all of the coaches I was able to go beyond the required goals of my six week challenge. There wasn't a time I was unmotivated to go to a class because they made it fun, but also challenging. 100% would recommend CrossFit Luminary and its coaches for motivating everyone involved and to reach their full potential.

Staff is knowledgeable, workouts are challenging and fun. Always lots of new people around so you don't feel out of place. I hurt my back doing squats a few years ago and had avoided them since, but Luminary coaches helped me correct my form and I now feel comfortable squatting again!

If you're looking for a complete package, this is the place that can help you reach your goals. The knowledgeable staff members are all friendly, well trained in fitness with an emphasis on proper technique. This is a judgement free zone as everyone is supportive including the new and experienced members. You'll experience great workouts while learning proper nutrition to sustain a well balanced diet. Goals smashed!

Lisa lead a very fun and challenging class. Nutritional information was provided after the workout for those interested. I loved how I felt "the burn" the flowing day...I could really feel the impact of the workout... I definitely recommend CrossFit Luminary!

What an amazing place! Both Pat and Tyler are beyond phenomenal coaches. They take the extra time to help you with your skills and it's obvious that they both genuinely want to see you succeed, get better, and reach your goals. The people are so friendly and Shane the owner is so down to earth, real, and cares about each member. This is by far the best place in town to be for crossfit!

I've been to a handful of CroffFit boxes in Grand Rapids and these guys are the best. You can be as intense as you want to be and go for competition training or if your goals are to lose body fat and get in shape this is the place. The difference maker is that they support your goals and actually care.

They also have a 'Strength & Conditioning' program for men and woman that is top notch. They're pricing is competitive and for this you basically have a personal trainer six days a week. Ask them anything about diet, sport specific training, and they will provide great honest feedback and help push you in a way that helps you achieve and do things that you've never done before.

I tried crossfit for the first time a while back; I had been working out for about 2-3 years and decided I wanted to kick it up a notch. The place I went to first lacked what everyone said about crossfit for me: a community. I quit, needless to say. I went to Luminary some time later and gave it another shot. I found exactly what I was looking for: an awesome community and people who just love working out. My coach was awesome. She taught me more in 1 of the one-on-one sessions than I learned in all 3 at the other box. I really like that open gym is included so you can work on more if you'd like. I can say that coming here is one of my favorite parts of the day! 10/10 would recommend to family and friends and those who are new to crossfit.

Can't say enough good things about this place. When you think of cross fit you think of God like men and women that do nothing but drink protein and lift heavy things. That is not cross fit and that is not what you get at luminary. My experience has been about average people learning to incorporate functional fitness into everyday life. You will have instructors helping you every step and every rep. The people are friendly and encouraging without being obnoxious. The owners and trainers truly care and have a passion for helping you become better. If you are looking to be motivated, inspired, and become a better you then Luminary is for you.

There's not enough time in the day to name all the great things about this community, because it's definitely more than just a gym.

The coaches are well informed and are in a constant state of communication with each other. Everyone offers their own bit of knowledge until you find what works for you. Any kind of limitation or struggle is addressed and worked on. I've made more gains than I ever thought possible in both mobility and strength.

A common argument that I usually see against pursuing training in this type of gym is the cost. This is one of those instances where you definitely get more than you pay for. If you think about all the worthless material possessions people spend MORE money a month on, the cost is trivial. This isn't really something that you're buying, it's an investment in yourself. It opens up new worlds, and it's a doorway to a healthier you both now and in the future. It's really hard to explain all the changes that happen. Every month starts to change you a little more. The physical is obvious, but there are so many other benefits. There's a confidence, a self-assurance, and a group bonding that's hard to come by any other way. After you've given it a chance, it's much easier to understand.

I've been coming since the gym re-opened in December and don't have any plans of stopping!
