Visited here because my sister was getting lasik eye surgery a few miles away. This LA Fitness was massive and spacious. It is probably the cleanest LA fitness I have ever visited. There were several rooms for different work outs. I spent about 20 minutes in the yoga room doing high intensity interval training. Great place to make a gym membership!

Nice clean facility with friendly staff. Usually not crowded in the morning.

The personal trainers and staff were generally really helpful and the gym was clean.

This facility is labeled as a LA Signature Club. There is one hot tub and only a three lane swimming pool. There are no courts of any kind. The hot tub is always under maintenance.

I would not recommend paying a full signature price at this facility because it does not contain the proper requirements to be considered a signature LA fitness facility.

This GYM is not up to date. I really joined because of the track. I love to run and if you go 7am you can get a great workout without waiting on equipment.

Hot tub has never worked since joining 3 years ago. Said there are no plans to fix??? What's a membership with a hot tub that doesn't work? In serious need of upgrading overall. Ladies locker room and showers aren't that great. Thinking of letting my membership go...and find another place. Sad :'(

Old equipment and facility. Adequate for basic gym goers but I don't even feel comfortable drinking from the fountain. New facility being built on N. Maple opening at the end of the year, eagerly anticipating that.

This is the worst LA Fitness I've ever been to. The barbells are not standard Olympic barbells, they are all thicker in diameter, making them considerably harder for a small woman like myself to grip in comparison to a standard barbell, which means I can't get an effective workout, as my training is centered around compound barbell lifts. The janitor kept sweeping around the power rack while I was squatting, which is very unsafe and distracting. The layout of the gym is extremely awkward as well, with the pool in the center, the weights section on the left side in front of the men's locker room, and the cardio machines on the right side in front of the women's locker room, with the only pathway between the two being the front of the gym where you walk in. In a few months I'll be able to use the U of M gyms, but in the meantime I'll be driving to the LA Fitness in Plymouth instead of visiting this one in Ann Arbor.

Very unsafe conditions. Hosing down floors with members in locker room. No warning signs. Hot tub does not work.

Limited hours. Cramped areas. Pool area smells and looks filthy. Equipment is limited. Will opt to drive further for a different gym before ever returning.

Wow. Probably one of the worst LA Fitnesses I've ever been to. If you're a local and can't make it to another LAF, try a different gym, the money is not worth what you get. Only positive is that my 3pm workout didn't have too many people around (including staff, which all seemed to be hiding in offices, and no one was at the front counter). This was a bad experience, and I will gladly drive to another LAF or Planet.

Whoever decided that two different weight and differently balanced dumbbells both labeled "100" should be fired immediately. That is dangerous and unacceptable. I don't understand what level of incompetence is required to make a decision like that.

Besides that, I'm disappointed that heavier dumbbells aren't available like they are at other locations.

I've been to many LA Fitness's across the nation, and sadly this is the worst. No fault to LAF though, this was not one of their builds, but rather they moved into it when they acquired Bally's .

It's small. It's dated. It's dirty.

They aren't busy ever, but the times they get more than 20 customers, it's crowded. They have one bench. one. I was in the military and we had make0shift prison gyms that were better than this.

The only saving grace is the staff - they are nice (just don't ever mention the potential new build LAFitness...)

It's a great location, they just need to tear it down and start again.

Remember, it's an individual opinions about this company. Do not forget, its depends on the location and I didnt have any complains because I know it's customers' responsible to return the weight in same place, they didnt even know how to put in trash or clean it up because it's not free when you pay a monthly or sometimes. Anyways! I had a great experience after first time to become a membership and got a free T-shirt and free oil change, SO NICE OF THEM! Just do not believe in them unless you go there for yourself. it's not hard to check it out (:

Don't hate it but I don't love it. Pool is gross, equipment is outdated and they have no idea what recycling is. Other than that though, the sauna is usually working and the steam room isn't broken too often, so it gets the job done. Seems they're incredibly hesitant to update or put any money into this location. Solely due to the pool, sauna, steam room, I hope this location remains for years to come!

This is the worst gym I've ever been to. It's a run down old Bali fitness with all the same ancient equipment. I've been to other LA Fitnesses and they don't compare, this one is especially disgusting and dirty. It's also so cramped, there is no where to stretch if there's a class and an angry old janitor will grumble at you anywhere you choose... cancelled my membership!

This is hands down the worst LA fitness I've EVER been to, one of the worst gyms I've ever seen period!

The building is aging, that's fine... You can have an aging building and still have a decent gym. This is (apparently) not the philosophy of the gym leadership.

1) This place is DISTURBINGLY dirty, this is a HUGE problem for me
2) Everything in the gym (lockers, fixtures, and exercise equipment) is in desperate need of maintenance
3) The staff all appeared to be actively avoiding members with many of them playing on their phones
4) The gym layout is poor and cramped

Needless to say, I will NEVER be back to this location! I'm so thankful I don't live in Ann Arbor, from now on I'll settle and make use of my hotel gym or will do bodyweight exercises.

If I was an LA fitness executive I would pull my brand off this location tomorrow or close it down for renovation/deep cleaning while I brought it up to the high standards generally associated with the LA Fitness brand.

Easy place to get a workout. Staff is friendly and helpful with questions.

January 16, 2018 12:46

I've been a member here for 3 years. I love the track, sauna, steam room and pool. This gym is never crazy packed and everyone is super friendly. The building is definitely on the older side though, compared to most L.A. Fitnesses

The only old Vic Tanny club still has a steam room. Living in Michigan I need a steam room to go to. All LA Fitness clubs are rebuilt without a steam room. The track and weight machines are good upstairs.

December 2017 The steam room works only half of the time when I go there. When it works, the steam comes after I stay in the wet room for a couple of hours. LA Fitness obviously thinks that they can sell you membership without the steam room working most of the time. They have to save money while selling membership at affordable price. It is frustrating.

This LA fitness looks like its equipment hasn't been updated since the 80's. The same can be said about cleanliness. They have a guy who vacuums with a cord so long you trip on it walking to the next machine- machines that no one wipes after use- the walls have dirt set into the paint and don't even go into the bathroom if you have MOLD allergies.

October 25, 2017 12:18

Yikes, this particular club is ROUGH. I have probably been to 40 different LA Fitness locations all over the US and it's usually about the same wherever you go. I would venture to say this is the worst location in the country. Think of an old, nasty gym circa 1980 and this is probably pretty close to that. The gym is tiny and upstairs is about 15 degrees hotter than downstairs. The building should honestly just be demolished.

On the bright side, the gym is so crappy that very few people go here. Very minimal crowds for 530pm on a weeknight..I'll take it.

October 25, 2017 12:18

Definitely dingy and run down. Much smaller than other gyms. Although they do have a pool, sauna, and a good amount of exercise equipment, the air was quite stagnant and the place was over all dirty and run down. I'd get a membership if they were like $20/mo maybe, but with all of the extravagant fees I may as well get a membership at a nicer gym.

October 25, 2017 12:18

This is a well maintained and a full fledged gym. I just wish the equipment was updated. It seems like it's about ten years old now.

October 25, 2017 12:18

The ONLY good thing about this place is the people, specifically the weekday morning crew. Richard at the front desk and Patty, who cleans.

Richard is a sweetheart who always greets you with the most heartfelt hello.

Patty is a wonderful woman who takes her job very seriously. Every morning I see her scrub the women's locker room from top to bottom and I'm pretty sure that's the only cleaning it gets. She loves her job because she loves the people she interacts with every morning. Let me be clear, Patty is amazing. So many of the people who come to this club say Patty and Richard are the only reason they stay.

There is nothing else good about this club other than the proximity to my job, which is why I continue to go. The equipment sucks, and the few pieces of good equipment (rowing machine, ropes) they do have, they keep LOCKED UP and tell you you can't use it unless you buy a (disgustingly overpriced) personal training package. Every other LA fitness does have a personal training area with this type of equipment, but you're allowed to use it if there's not training session going on.

Other than that, you have rundown equipment, jerks who don't re-rack their weights, and nighttime staff who don't clean up and leave it all for the morning. (I know this is the case because I come right after they open. Nothing is put away.)

The LA fitness in Ann Arbor is considerably smaller than others. Pool varies in cloudiness and temperature. Hot tub had been broken for a long period and there is no plan to fix it. tiles in shower either need a serious cleaning or to be replaced. There is a plan to build from scratch in Ann Arbor, but when is the big question. The one in Plymouth is very nice, clean and has friendly staff. The staff in Ann Arbor are also friendly.
