My children have being going to Oom Yung Doe for the past 3 months now and throughly enjoy the classes. The instructors work hard to build confidence in all kids and provide a learning environment that is both creative and tailored to the needs of the student/class.
My dear friend invited me to join her at Oom Yung Doe in Medford to take a movement/meditation class, I happily accepted. My friend earned her first degree black belt this year (I am so proud of her.) I have seen the changes in her way of being, her ability to handle life's challenges with more ease, as well as an increase in her confidence level. I know a big part of these changes are because of her training with her teacher, Assistant Regional Head Instructor, Alex Goode. We were taught by Alex this morning. I thoroughly enjoyed the fluid movements and flow, the challenging holds, and breath work. Such a great way to begin the day! Many thanks! I bow~
Oom Yung Doe training has been incredibly transformative in my life. When I started I was struggling with a lot of anxiety and uncertainty. The self-discipline I learned in the school through holding positions, learning self-defense, and practicing nature based forms gave me a peace in my own life and an ability to overcome. With help from the instructors I was holding positions longer, developing greater strength in muscles and tendons, and developing a better quality of life in general. I strongly recommend this to anyone interested in self-development.

My son has attended the Om Yung Doe school for almost one year. My son learns more than just martial arts at the school. He is learning life skills that will serve him throughout his entire life such as self-discipline, patience, focus, how to apply himself, self respect, and respect for others. Alex Goode is a masterful martial artist, patient instructor and excellent role model. The best martial arts school my son has ever attended.

For anyone who is serious about self-improvement through martial arts training, the Oom Yung Doe network of schools in the Boston area is an excellent choice. Thanks to the highly personalized instruction, each student can develop at his or her own pace. After training at the Medford location for the past few months, I have developed strength, flexibility, and coordination rapidly.
The school also takes its heritage seriously, coupling the physical movements with traditional martial arts principles and philosophy. While the training is effective for those seeking only physical exercise or self-defense instruction, practice can provide much deeper benefits. I've noticed significant stress relief, increased energy, and improved focus at work. For anyone interested in traditional martial arts training or a balanced system of self-development, this Oom Yung Doe school deserves a try.

The simplest way I can explain this type of practice is training to utilize your senses to better understand the world around you and ultimately, yourself. Oom Yung Doe has made me reanalyze everything I thought I knew about who I was and what was perceived to be my environment. Being taught a new way to breath was what made me want to learn more from my instructors, I also realized how little I knew about myself and what I was capable of not only physically but also mentally. You probably will not be able to relate to what I'm saying, but experiencing Oom Yung Doe training for yourself will satisfy your search for True Traditional Martial arts, the way it should be.
I was able to attend lessons for only a few months at the Medford School but that was enough to make a change in my life and how I approach stress and some things on a daily basis. Even now I use some of what I learned here . Certainly recommend this school not only at this location but all of them because you get the same quality of training ,dedication and attention with all the instructors who are all very passionate about helping you and improving your quality of life.
5 stars doesn't even come close! The instructors here have incredible knowledge about the human body and can help anyone reach there highest potential. When I started training I was dealing with chronic back pain because of a bulged disk and know I can move better and feel stronger than I did in high school. Once you begin to train here you will never want to train any other way.
I have been training for over 4 years and I can truly say this has changed my life for the better. I'm a very high stress person and I hold it all in my body. Aside from the effects this was having on my mood and enjoyment of life, it was starting to take its toll on my health (high cortisol, adrenal insufficiency, insulin intolerance, pain in my joints). Through practice I was able to release the stress as well as build strength and increase my energy. I have never found gyms to be an effective way for me to loose weight, build strength, increase energy, and combat stress so this has been like a miracle for me. Even when I'm having a horrible day and the only thing I want to do is eat a pint of ice cream and watch mindless television, I get myself to school and within a few minutes of a simple movement everything changes and I feel great. About 1.5 years ago my schedule got complicated and life just got in the way of my practice. I wasn't able to make it in to school so I just stopped practicing. It only took a few months to feel (and for others in my life to see) the negative impact this was having so I was determined to make the time to practice, for my health and sanity. Practice just makes me feel great and I've been able to find balance and inner peace without which I wouldn't be able to cope with the challenges of daily life.
I started Oom Yung Doe training at the age of 14 in Seattle and trained for about 1 year. After that time I moved back to my hometown near Boston, but I had such fond memories of it I always had it on the back of my mind. Around the age of 16 I was going through enormous challenges in my life and I eventually looked up the school to find that they had a location about 2 miles away from where I lived. I immediately found a job, paid for my first month of training and I haven't looked back since. Within my first few months I realized unbelievable positive changes to every area of my life and I still continue to feel that to this day, almost 10 years later. I now teach classes full time and I have to say that it is a blessing that I can dedicate my time to helping people in such an immensely postive way. If you take self improvement the slightest bit seriously you would be foolish not to give it a shot.
I highly recommend the training I have received at Oom Yung Doe. It has made a huge impact on my life both physically and mentally and only wish I had started sooner. The instructors are extremely helpful in addressing individual areas of need based on each student's fitness level, body type and age. They tailor the best programs to match student's needs and the progress and development I have seen in myself and other students is remarkable.
